ABOUT BOSTON WRESTLING
Boston Youth Wrestling was founded in 2012 with the belief that through the sport of wrestling
we can develop the traits and habits of success in the personal, academic, and athletic lives of
youth of Boston. The work of our coaches is teaching our wrestlers about healthy and positive
relationships with their peers and adults, self-confi dence, and a commitment to success in all
aspects of their lives. Empowering our youth will make lasting change in our communities.
Currently, BYW works directly in 12 public schools in Boston and hosts several events each year
for youth wrestlers, including the annual City Junior Championship in January, other jamborees,
open practices, and clinics/club wrestling in the spring, summer and fall.
Boston Youth Wrestling is a recognized public charity under the 501(c)(3) Internal Revenue code.
As a new nonprofit, our organizational capacity to carry out our vision is dependent on the
quality of our staff. To meet this challenge, we are looking to hire our first Academic Coordinator
& School Liaison to help take our organizations mission developing youth in their personal,
academic, and athletic lives to the next level. We seek a dynamic individual with fantastic
interpersonal skills, vision, and the ability to get things done. As part of our team, you will not

POSITION SUMMARY
Boston Youth Wrestling is seeking an experienced Academic Director & School Liaison for 2 of
its 12 school-based wrestling programs. The primary responsibilities of the Director are to
provide day-to-day management and operation, leadership and support to all Boston Wrestling
programs, as well as contribute to the development of strategic plans.
They will also oversee a team of interns, with whom they will design marketing and mediaoutreach strategies, website development and event management plans, and new program
development opportunities. This will also include the selection and supervision of full time and
part time faculty/staff. Together with the Executive Director & Program Director, the Academic
Coordinator will be responsible for the overall management of school and family engagement
as well as academic achievement and leadership skills programming at two school sites within
the BYW network.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Academic Support Coordinator will have the opportunity to work with middle and high
school age students from Boston Public Schools who are engaged in Bostons largest wrestlingprogram -- as well as their wrestling coaches -- as they grow academically and develop strong
peer leadership skills. The Academic Support Coordinator will be responsible for working with
coaches to develop and incorporate academic support systems into BYW students daily routines
while also providing students with ongoing feedback on their academic progress and leadership
development. The Academic Support Coordinator will also serve as BYWs main liaison to school
staff and families, engaging BYW students teachers, school administrators, and
parent/guardians as collaborators in their success.
Teaching experience, strong classroom management skills, and love for interscholastic athletics
are essential, and supervisory experience is strongly preferred. This is a 9-month stipendedposition at 15-20 hours/week (through some weeks will require a few more hours). Stipend will
be competitive with other similar positions in the Greater Boston area.
SCHEDULE
We are hiring one Academic Coordinators & School Liaisons for two of our school sites:
Days: Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays
Time: 1:00-6:00 (some additional outside hours required)
Academic Year Schedule: now December 18 and January 6 May 28 (an additional
orientation date will also be scheduled)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and deliver academic and study skills lessons for BYW student-athletes
Conduct daily observations and communication with teachers to provide formal and
informal feedback to students on academic and leadership achievement in school as
part of their overall standing with their wrestling team.
Develop an academic and leadership skills curriculum, course materials and evaluation
system in collaboration with BYW Executive Team and coaches, provide coaching and
modeling to future program staff.
Facilitate conversations and partnerships between school staff members and BYW staff,
assist in academic classes.

Communicate with all involved parties (school staff, Program Director, BYW coaches,
students and parents) related to student achievement and performance. This will involve
weekly email and/or phone conversations, and occasional meetings, possibly outside of
program hours.
REQUIRED VALUES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree required, advanced degree preferred
Values middle-school and high school athletics as a pathway and powerful driver of
successful outcomes for youth -- particularly wrestling!
Values coaching as an educational profession on par with academic instruction in its
net effect on young adults self-efficacy and future orientation
Values honesty and integrity as the fabric of all successful social ventures and lives
that value
Prior involvement in an educational or school-based athletics setting
Familiarity with professional development and evaluation
Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage multiple and diverse projects
simultaneously.
Impeccable written and verbal communication skills with a command of the English
language.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, Google Docs, and familiarity with
communications platforms such as Constant Contact or Mail Chimp, program
databases, donor databases, and website content management systems such as
Wordpress.
Working knowledge of how to leverage social media to increase a nonprofit
organization's visibility and enhance its profile is preferred.
Teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level (grades 5-8), is strongly
preferred
Strong classroom management skills
Supervisory/coaching experience, and comfort with providing constructive feedback
Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and college access
Effective project management and organizational skills
Excellent cross-cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
Strong interpersonal, cooperative, communication, and writing skills

Bi/Multilingual in any of the following preferred: Spanish, Haitian Kreyol, Mandarin,
Vietnamese, Cape Verdean Kriolu, Arabic, French.
