boston gardeners gazette · the american community gardening association conference in hartford...

With our gardens buzzing with activity mid-season, lets take a moment to thank our volunteer garden coordinators who’ve been busy filling the last vacated plots, finding missing garden hoses, coordinating clean up days, collecting produce to donate, hosting volunteers and programs and more. Our community gardens operations rely on the network of these front line volunteers and we are so thankful for their support. A special shout out to the coordinators of the Paul Gore Beecher CG, Leland CG, Chilcott Granada CG and the West Springfield CG for submitting their volunteer hours so regularly. And thanks to all others who’ve been sending us your hours as well. Tracking the hours you all volunteer in the gardens is so important for us and helps us showcase the time and financial worth of the work accomplished by you, which in turn helps us leverage funding for our garden network. If you haven’t already done so, I request all garden coordinators to send in your garden’s volunteer hours to our volunteer manager Annie at [email protected] or at 617.542.7696 ext.2127. Remember- all garden meetings, outreach and organizing, clean up days, common area work and time spent hosting programs and volunteer groups counts! I had the opportunity to hang out last week with some of our volunteers: Lolita, Raji, Riz and Leora, who joined us at the American Community Gardening Association conference in Hartford last week and enjoyed swapping stories and learning about their gardens. You can read more about their experience at the conference from Raji and Lolita in the later sections in this Gazette. Another group of volunteers- John, Susan, Suzanne and Debbie are working with Peter Bowne in the South End, already scoping out yards to feature in our 2018 South End garden tour. Michelle de Lima is being supported by our beloved MUG(gle) volunteers while Jeremy Dick and Jordan Takvorian are hosting several corporate volunteers who want to lend a helping hand. You get the picture. Community Gardens are truly a grassroots, volunteer led network that are run for and by our communities and we at the Trustees are fortunate to work amidst such generosity. Boston Gardeners Gazette Urban & Green August 2017 A Message from Vidya Tikku, General Manager Participants learn about edible native plants in the second installment of our series with New England Wild Flower Society at the Minton Stables CG in JP. Join us for the final class this month! Please consider supporting the Boston community gardens with your membership. If you have a workday or program coming up in your garden, don’t hesitate to call our staff to swing by and process your memberships.
