WHAT'S THE CONCEPT?

THE CONCEPT OF THIS MUSIC VIDEO IS ABOUT A CERTAIN PERSON THAT GET HOOKED ON A VIDEO GAME, THIS CAUSES HIM TO LOOSE HIS SANITY AND BELIEVE THAT THE EVENTS ON THE VIDEO GAME ARE HAPPENING IN REAL LIFE. WITH THIS IN MIND THE MAIN CHARACTER DECIDES TO BUILD THE ROBOT OF THE VIDEO GAME AND FIGHT THE IMAGINARY MONSTERS, THIS VIDEO IS ONE OF THE VISUAL REPRESENTATIONS OF SVEN CARLSON, IN THIS VIDEO IT’S THE ELECTRONIC SHAMAN THAT IS BEING USED, MOST OF THE VIDEO IS A FANTASY REPRESENTATION OF THE CHARACTERS IMAGINATION.

CAMERAIN THIS MUSIC VIDEO WE SEE A WIDE VARIETY OF CAMERA ANGLES AND SHOTS, MOST OF THESE SHOTS ARE USED TO SHOW THE POWER OF THE ROBOT AND TO MAKE IT LOOK COOL LIKE FOR EXAMPLE MEDIUM SHOTS OF THE ROBOT WALKING FOLLOWED BY CLOSE UP OF SOME OF THE ROBOTS PART AND THEN ENDING WITH A LONG SHOT OF THE ROBOT. AS THE MUSIC VIDEO PROGRESSES WE SEE HOW THE MAIN CHARACTER HAS LOST HIS MIND AS HE BATTLES HIS WAY TILL HE GET TO THE “BOSS WAVE” ITS ONLY THAT WE NOTICE THAT ALL OF THIS IS NOT REAL WHEN WE SEE THE SIGN “FUNGUS TIME” IN WHICH EVERYTHING BECOMES MULTI-COLOURED WHICH OPENS UP A POSSIBILITY OF ALL OF THIS NOT BEING REAL. THE CAMERA ANGLES MOSTLY FOCUS ON THE CHARACTER USING CLOSE UPS, MEDIUM SHOTS AND AT SOME POINTS EVEN LONG SHOTS.

SOUNDTHE SOUND USED IN THE MUSIC VIDEO IS QUITE INTERESTING, THE VIDEO STARTS OF WITH THE SOUND COMING FROM A VIDEO GAME CALLED “BOSS WAVE” WHICH IS WHERE THE CHARACTER GOT THE IDEA OF BUILDING THE ROBOT. WHEN THE MUSIC STARTS WE CAN ALSO HEAR THE ELECTRONIC PERSPECTIVE OF THE GENRE DUBSTEP. THE ACTUAL TRACK STARTS 0.22 MINS INTO THE VIDEO.

MISE–EN-SCENETHE MISE-EN-SCENE USED IN THE MUSIC VIDEO IS QUITE INTERESTING, WHEN WE SEE THE ARTIST WE CAN SEE THAT HE IS A DJ BY THE WAY THAT HE’S DRESSED, DJ’S USUALLY DRESSED REALLY PLAINLY, FURTHERMORE THE PROPS THAT ARE USED ARE AN IPHONE, AND THE CARDBOARD ROBOT AT THE END OF THE CLIP. THE SETTING IS ALSO QUITE WELL MADE AS ITS TRYING TO CREATE THE SAME SETTING AS IN THE VIDEO GAME, THE FRAMING IS MOSTLY CONCENTRATED ON THE ROBOT AS ITS BASICALLY THE MAIN CHARACTER BUT BY FAR THE MOST INTERESTING ASPECT OF THE MUSIC VIDEO HAS TO BE THE COLOUR CHANGE WHEN ITS FUNGUS TIME, THE COLOUR USED IN THE MUSIC VIDEO IS WHAT ATTRACTS VIEWERS TO THE VIDEO AS THE COLOURS OF THE ROBOT ARE QUITE EYE CATCHING.

EDITINGTHE MASS MAJORITY OF THE VIDEO IS CUT TO THE RHYTHM OF THE MUSIC, THIS MAKE THE SYNC WITH THE MUSIC. ALSO THE VISUAL RHYTHM AND MUSICAL RHYTHM CREATE A MUCH BIGGER IMPACT TO THE VIEWERS AND MAKES IT MORE PLEASING TO WATCH.

INTERTEXTUAL REFERENCESIN THE MUSIC VIDEO WE BASICALLY ONLY SEE THE ROBOT, HOWEVER ON CLOSER INSPECTION WE CAN SEE TWO TYPES OF INTERTEXTUAL REFERENCES TO A VIDEO GAME AND A MOVIE. THE FIRST ONE WE SEE IS THE RESEMBLANCES BETWEEN THE CHARACTER SYSTEM INCORPORATED INTO THE ROBOT, ITS EXTREMELY SIMILAR TO THAT OF IRON MAN. THE SECOND ONE WE SEE IS THE SHAPE OF THE ROBOT, IT HIGHLY RESEMBLES ONE OF “BIOSHOCKS” ENEMIES CALLED THE BIG DADDY HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES.
