Just as accent shades have the ability to change the whole narrative of a neutral scheme, colored furniture can help enhance mood and encourage positive emotions.

Experience the striking color palette of

painted frames by Boss Design. Offering

endless design permutations, a choice of ten

colors may be applied to the underframes,

tables, legs, and arms of most of Boss

Design’s upholstered seating and table

collections.

Whether it’s to simply add color to a design

scheme or to echo corporate branding,

the ten RAL colors have been chosen to

complement chrome and natural wood

frames. With the inclusion of color, designers

now have the added freedom to create bright

and energetic schemes across all interiors.

The colors can be selected to blend with

other tones in the design scheme or mixed

with contrasting bolder colors to create a

high impact look. Furthermore, the addition

of patterned upholstery can help bring an

array of interiors to life.

Working together with the Jewel Toned Interiors design concept and the Allyn Rae Group, furniture distributor based in Florida, USA, Boss Design provided furniture to the Burlington Post, a stunning new development in St. Petersburg, FL, providing accessible housing to those who are 55 and over.

Wanting to provide a serene, calming and homey atmosphere, the colors used are primarily neutral, however the space has enchanting surprises that bring visual interest while providing a burst of energy.

A confidential media company recently decided to consolidate it’s nine distinct brands located in different offices into new 700,000 sqft headquarters at 3 World Trade Center, in New York City.

They worked together with leading architecture firm, HOK, and Boss Design, to deliver their vision for the space, which spread across 15 floors of the brand new building. Wanting to retain the unique qualities of each brand, whilst designing a flexible space that allows the group to move and change over time, most of the space is outfitted in neutral shades, with each brand choosing to personalise colors in work cafes, reception areas and meeting rooms.

To support individual working, Boss Design worked closely with the client to design a brand new product that would suit their requirements. Mango, a personal workspace solution, was created, striking the perfect balance between privacy and ergonomics. Mango was specified across all floors of the office, allowing its user to comfortably escape distractions for extended periods of time, without the need to leave the room.

Mark Barrell, Design Director at Boss Design, comments,

“The relocation has been very successful for all involved, and fantastic project to be a part of.

A dynamic workplace should be a multifunctional space, designed and equipped to meet its workers’psychological needs. Our Mango work lounge provides users with a private, comfortable and ergonomically-sound environment that will allow them to achieve the outputs from their collaborations.”

WHY THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN YOURSELF

AND BOSS DESIGN?

Myself, Brian Murray and Mark Barrell have known each

other for a long time and now felt like the right time to come

together on a collaboration. Boss Design is a family owned

company with a strong design heritage, an interesting

portfolio and a truly global presence.

Working with such a design-orientated company is what motivates my team resulting in the promise of an exceptional product.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO DESIGN THIS COLLECTION?

Mark Barrell’s absolutely creative formulation of a very special

task: “… the trick is of course achieving a beautiful shell

design that is recognisable in a “sea” of thousands of these

chairs, whilst still producing a subtle and refined design that

does not look like it is trying too hard to stand out! All of the

usual base options of course…”

It was a real challenge and I love challenges! Especially

to create something nearly impossible.

AS A PRODUCT RANGE THE NEW COLLECTION IS VERY

VAST IN TERMS OF ITS SPECIFICATION AND COMBINATIONS.

WAS THIS YOUR INTENTION AND WHAT DO YOU FEEL ARE

THE BENEFITS OF THIS?

When you find a shell design which is unique and universal

together with excellent seating comfort, you have a lot of

opportunities to combine them into a variety of meaningful

variations.

We have the shell in two different materials and if you combine only these two materials with several frames the variations are endless.

You can create chair combinations with and without

armrests, stackable and non-stackable, barstools as well all

ideal for residential and commercial interiors.

Together with upholstery and covers in leather or fabric,

the range gives the interior architect or designer a perfect tool

for all the different environments; an answer and a solution for

the most diverse interior requirements.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COMBINATION/MODEL IN

THE COLLECTION?

“Actually I love all my children!...”

However the most revolutionary and unique design is the

shell (plastic and wood) together with the Z arms and the

frames in aluminum or timber.

WHEN YOU ARE DESIGNING PRODUCTS, WHERE DO GET

YOUR IDEAS/INSPIRATION FROM?

“I look skyward and I wait for a thought flash inspiration

from above…”

In earnest!:

—Travelling to countries with other cultures.

—Through sensitive observation of our environment and

by analyzing social processes and changes.

—By watching the behaviors of my fellow human beings.

—Always moving with open eyes and curiosity through

the world.

—By linking opposites and seemingly impossible

combinations.

—From a lot of discussions.

ASIDE FROM FURNITURE DESIGN, WHAT OTHER

INTERESTS DO YOU HAVE?

—Travelling, to learn from other cultures.

—Architecture and all other design disciplines.

—History and past high cultures.

—The intellectual relationship/communication between

head and hand…

—Making music and of course cooking.

WHERE DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF FURNITURE DESIGN

IN FIVE YEARS’ TIME?

The difference between residential furniture and office/work

furniture is getting smaller. Furniture designers will have to

deal a lot more with the new media and technology and the

changed working and life situations… However, in contrast to

this, more and more nature is being sought…materials such

as wood, stone, glass and leather combined with raw

processing should offer us security and a counterpoint to an

over-engineered world. I believe sustainability will play an

even bigger role and thus change the design.

We are now trying to anticipate all these things so that

our designs have long-term validity and, if possible,

achieve heirloom quality.
