“Boring Service”• Last week’s survey from “Already Gone”

gave the Top 5 reasons why our “twenty-somethings” have left their respective churches.

• The number one reason: Boring Service.

Status Quo Response?• In defending/justifying our worship service:

– We say it needs to be scriptural: It should.– Does scriptural necessarily equal boring? – Some brethren won’t seriously take the claim

many who left have made, nor a sound yet fulfilling solution that will stem the exodus!

The W I D E Spectrum

of Believers When We Come

To Worship our God

The Makeup of the Lord’s Church

• The “Super Christian” who is spiritually mature about seemingly everything.

• Then there is the Christian who seems to lack a spiritual bone in their body.

• Then there is everyone else in between.

Ideal vs. Reality• The ideal setting has all saints spiritually

minded and fully set on worshipping God. Jn. 4:23-24

• The reality is that the Lord’s church has “a spectrum” of believers. cp. 1 Cor. 11:17-18

• For this reason teaching the ideal (“scriptural”) setting is essential. 1 Cor. 11:19

Being “Christ-like” is The Ideal• The goal of being in Christ is to be like Christ.

Rom. 8:29• Those who are mature (like Christ) should

bear with the weaknesses of those who aren’t (“without strength”). Rom. 15:1; Gal. 6:2;

• This will include what can be done to provide a genuinely uplifting worship service.

Consider How to Stir One Another• Our song-leaders can select and lead songs

in a manner that stirs our hearts. Heb. 10:24• We can “Praise Jehovah!” like we mean it.

– Like the Psalmists did. Psa. 148– As depicted in the heavenly Jerusalem.

Rev. 19:1-6

Our heartfelt and meaningful song service plays an integral part

in an uplifting worship service that praises our God!

The Rest of our ‘Service’• Our heartfelt prayers.• Meaningful ‘talks’ regarding the Lord’s

Supper.• A reverential communion during the

Lord’s Supper.

Bottom Line• True worship – as noted in the Psalms and

John’s heavenly vision is HEARTFELT!• If we do not worship our Lord “with the spirit”

then we may have a scriptural, but boring worship service.

• You who are spiritual… what are you doing to consider one another and to stir one another?
