I Corinthians 13:1-8“Kind” – present middle indicative of chresteuomai – to be gentle, kind; a gracious attitude toward others; giving others the benefit of the doubt (cf. Eph. 4:32; Gal. 5:22).

I Corinthians 13:1-8“Does not envy” (vs. 4) – present active indicative of zeloō – to be jealous; envious; spiteful; to be heated or to boil with envy, hatred, or anger.

Envy is related to the attitude of those who felt that their gifts were inferior (12:14-17) – Love would have solved that problem.

Spiteful – ill will with the disposition to irritate & annoy; bear grudges.

Cf. Song of Solomon 8:6

Envy – a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another’s advantages, success, possessions, etc.

Emphasizes the importance of no mental attitude sins in our life.
