Four case studies regarding space reduction by dynamic solutions

1 Karel Kammans’ oneman house

1 Karel Kammans’ oneman house

2 Joost Kanters’ elevator house

3 KAW/e Dynamic School

3 KAW/e Dynamic School

4 Raoul Borgans’ Aging in Place House

Statement from these four case studies

Dynamic solutions Are able to induce a reduction of building volume (and material use) by approx. 40-50 % This means that the budget for the remaining building volume roughly could be doubled up, without loosing functionality In the operation only half the volume will generate only about half of the operational costs incl. energy. On the other hand mechatronic technology will require extra maintenance and energy. All in all these thoughts are not unrealistic beforehand and deserve further research
