Where are we?
Accessibility:
Drop off Area: The Museum entrance is located at the Minnawarra Park end of the Court House parking area enter off Jull Street. Parking: Note: There is no parking at the Museum. Buses can park in the bays provided at the Armadale Visitor’s Centre on Jull Street. Private cars can use the car park next to the Armadale District Hall on Jull Street.
Access: Our buildings are wheelchair accessible.
Toilets: Located outside at the end of the Museum building.

Travel through time and uncover the story of the building of St Matthew’s Church. Experience what school was
like for children in 1900. Learn to dance the Polka in the Armadale District Hall. Become a Museum Detective investigating how our pioneers lived. Hear the story of the families who came to live in the Armadale District.
*Contact our Education Officer for details on extended programs for the buildings of significance.
Actively participate in the telling of Yagan’s story. Investigate how the Noongar people lived. Create a
menu using the foods that they collected and hunted. Make your own season wheel to discover the six seasons of the Noongar people. Experience the
movement of animals and birds through dance. Create rock art using aboriginal symbols.
Discover the secret world of Morse Code. Explore the ways our pioneers tackled the problem of limited water resources. Learn about the innovation of the blacksmith
and why they were crucial to pioneer life. Make your own brick whilst discovering the evolution of brick
making. Hunt for objects within the Museum that are inventions or innovations. Create your own invention to
make something in your home better.
Museum in a Box [MiaB]Themed boxes of objects, activities and
support materials.
Boxes can be borrowed for two weeks. Boxes will be delivered and collected by History
House Museum staff.

What’s in the Kitchen?
Teachers’ AfternoonsThe Museum hosts two Teachers’ Afternoons during
the year where we showcase our programs, go through our bookings information and provide the opportunity for teachers to explore our Museum.
Teachers are presented with Information packs to take away with them.
These are held on the third Tuesday of March and August.
Time: 4 - 5.30pm
Bookings are essential. Light refreshments available.

Invention and Innovation
Visit the City of Armadale Council Chambers and learn how Local Government works. Hold a Council meeting in the Chamber. Agenda provided prior to visit. Investigate the stages of a Local Government election by participating in a mock Council election. Explore how an idea for Council becomes a reality.
Visit our War Memorial in Memorial Park. Participate in the telling of the story of how the war started. Explore the objects that our soldiers brought home with them. Have your own ‘war time’ photograph taken dressed
up as either a nurse or soldier. Make a poppy and write a postcard you would have sent home from the
front line.

Anzac Day
Local GovernmentAt a simulated dig the children learn about the
methods used by archaeologists in the field, apply the skills needed and study stone tools found in the
Pilbara Region of Western Australia.
Why did the First World War start? Who were our Local Anzacs?
What was life like for our soldiers away at war?What happened on the Home Front?
Who is a migrant? Who emigrated to Australia? Why do migrants come to a new land? What would life
have been like for the new migrants? What contributions have migrants made to the community?
