The proceedings of the third mternatlOnal meeting on leukemia 10 Wilsede are concerned with vanous aspects of leukemia, including climcal aspects (17 contnbutlOns), cellular (10) and molecular (12) bIOlogy, Immunology (13), virology (11), and exchange of genetic matenal (9). In addItIon, the memonallectures on Fredenck Stohl man Jr. (W C Moloney, R. C. Gallo, D. PInkel) and a summary of the meeting (F. Rapp) are presented. gatIonal results with a large Series ot patients are reported. The pathologic-anatomic part of the

text contams a collectIOn of unclear concepts and defmItlons, e. g., dysplasia m contrast to

mastopathy, and carcmoma precursors, among which lobular and ductal carcmoma m Situ as well

as ductal papillomas are dealt With Side by Side. DJtterentlatlOn IS not made between precancerous

changes and carcmoma m SitU. There IS no presentatIOn of the WHO ciassJtlcatlOn of malignant

tumors. The vanous malignant forms of cellular, mtracanalicular fibroadenoma are not clearly developed, and the descnptlOn of malignant Iymphoas of the breast IS likeWise not up-to-date.

The layout of thiS paperback IS good. The m part schematiC diagrams represent a compromise. The book IS aimed for the most part at clmlClans The cytologist and hlstopathologl5t Will fmd

the book less appealmg, although he may use the book a5 a brief overview of preoperative fmdmgs m bemgn and malignant diseases ot the breast. The pnce IS appropnate

Farrer-Brown, Geoftrey: Farhatlas der Herzkrankhelten. (Color Atlas of Heart DIseases) 157 pages With 408 color hgures Gustav FIscher Verlag, Stuttgart - New York, 1980.

The above work shows how color photography can be used to demonstrate the pathologic anatomy of an organ almost completely and very mstructIvely m a relatively small space. Didactically well-prepared specimens of congemtal malformatIOns or practical pomters and hgures for

locatmg the vanous of the conductmg system are qUite convmcmg, as are the appropnate use or combmatlon of macroscopIC and microscopIC IllustratIOns. The attached fIgure legends are clearly

wntten and are bnet and preCIse m what they have to say With all these posltlve features, It seems less serIOUS that a diSCUSSIOn of the coronary ostia does not accompany the relatively exhaustive treatment of coronary arterIes, or that the coronary ostia do not receive speCial attention m a

chapter on syphilis. IllustratIOns ot changes m relatIOn to transvenous pacemaker electrodes,

which are so often encountered m autopsy materIal these days, might have been a valuable

addition to thiS book. A somewhat shorter biblIographic appendiX would have mcreased the value

of the book espeCially as a supplement to correspondmg textbooks and monographs. The figures

are superbly reproduced, and the remammg layout of the book IS no less deSirable. The pnce IS

appropnate. ThiS book can be recommended not only to morphologists and to students, but as well to everyone mterested or active m cardIOlogy, as an appealIng supplement to hiS knowledge

m thiS area.
