The authors of thIS coloured atlas had the mtentlOn to show a great varIety of morphologIcally dIagnostIC crIterIa that playa major role m all specIal fIelds of medlcme. The colour reproductIOns are excellent, a few exceptIons made, and of great dIdactIC value. The IllustratIOns are sup­plemented by a short text gIVIng precIse deSCrIptIOns, and the author also gIves mstructlons to the reader, m particular to medIcal students, how to look at the pIctures as a whole before subJectmg them to logIcal analysIs. ThIS handy manual IS clearly deSIgned and may become a welcome compamon to the medIcal student durmg bedsIde trammg. But It IS also mstructlve for all phYSI­cIans who work at the dlmcs.

Further chapters deal with the role of mflammatory medIators m connectIOn with localIzed bone loss. Although thIS book IS well-edited, the qualIty of the IllustratIOns faIls to come up to the standard expected. In spIte of thIS dIsadvantage I would lIke to recommend thIS book because of ItS very attractive pnce.

The text IS well-arranged and the IllustratIOns are of good quality. In spIte of the hIgh pnce I would lIke to recommend thIS book to each pathologIst mterested In hIstochemIstry.

In spite of thiS disadvantage thiS book IS highly recommended because of Its great didactic value and Its attractive price.
