BONTEMPI® Surgical Instruments

In September 1974, Mr. Alessandro Bontempi launched a company to produce and distribute dentalinstruments to assist and enhance the dentists' technical skills. Over the years the company hasthrived. It has expanded its offering to all medical disciplines: General Surgery, Plastic Surgery,Microsurgery E.N.T., Ophthalmic, Cardiovascular, Orthopedic and Neurosurgery.The quality of the BONTEMPI products has helped the company thrive in penetrating new marketsthroughout Europe, North America, Eastern Europe and the Pacific Rim. The success of BONTEMPIproducts has been made possible because:

§ Research and production teams are in close contact with the end user. This permits us to beat the cutting edge of instrument production and assists in the evolution of new techniques forprecision production of instruments. We modify existing instruments and create new ones atthe behest of our physician advisors.

§ Bontempi's instruments are superior because of our insistence on the highest grade specialmetals. The characteristics of the metal allow for the precise machining and finishing thatcheaper metals do not allow.

Martensitics t e e l i n s t r u m e n t sAll Bontempi instruments are made up of high quality martensitic

steel, also known as surgical steel. Nevertheless, in case of exposure

to the action of some particular chemical substances, or should these

substances be used in wrong doses or exposures not be observed,

instruments might be subject to loss of polish, corrosion or even to an

alteration of their superficial physical properties.

Therefore, surgical steel instruments shouldn't be exposed to the

prolonged action of chloride solutions. Moreover, instruments should

never be exposed to the action of or kept in prolonged contact with

chlorine solutions, hypochlorites, ferric chloride, hydrochloric acid

and iodine.

Instruments withtungsten carbide inserts

Joint andhinge instruments

By using these special materials during tempering high HRC hardness

degrees can be obtained, which allow to achieve perfect grinding

and extraordinary life of instruments.

When compared with steel instruments, tungsten carbide (TC)

instruments are more sensitive to chemicals and therefore require

special care. TC instruments should never be exposed to any of the

above mentioned chemical substances, nor to any other corrosive

chemical.

In order to insure perfect maintenance of TC instruments, you are

recommended to follow three simple but important rules:

Use solutions containing corrosion inhibitor for cleaning and

sterilisation;

Do not use ultrasound devices for cleaning, as they might take

off or splinter the TC insert;

After cleaning, dry the instruments thoroughly before

submitting them to sterilisation.

All joint and hinge instruments should always be kept well

lubricated. Always use special lubricants for surgical instruments.

Joint and hinge instruments should always be sterilised in open

position.
