DESCRIPTION
Bonfire nightTRANSCRIPT
In England, every year on the 5th November, they celebrate Bonfire night.
This is because on the 5th November 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes and his friends decided to try to blow up the English government and the King, James I.
Guy Fawkes was a Catholic, but James I was a protestant.
Guy Fawkes wanted England to be Catholic, so he wanted to kill the King.
He tried to blow up the houses of parliament and the government using 36 barrels of gunpowder!
The guards discovered Guy Fawkes, his friends and the gunpowder.
He was put in prison.
He and his friends were killed and their heads were put on sticks.
Every 5th November, English people have a big party to remember what Guy Fawkes did.
They build huge bonfires, and they make a model of Guy Fawkes, then they burn it on top of a bonfire.
They watch lots of fireworks representing the gunpowder
They also use sparklers
They eat toffee apples and jacket potatoes that are cooked in tin foil on the bonfire!
