Review effectiveness of online positive
psychological interventions
• N = 11 studies• 7/10 studies found significant increases
in well-being• 5/8 studies found significant increases
in depression• Small effect sizes• Low adherence & high drop-out• Limited use of persuasive technologies• Quality of the research designs needs
improvementBolier & Martin Abello, 2014
![Page 16: Bolier et al is1](https://reader033.vdocuments.site/reader033/viewer/2022050919/547c2d58b4af9fbe158b51a9/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Some recent studies
• Online format just as effective as group-administered format (Layous et al.,
2012)
• More exercises ≠ more effectiveness(Schueller & Parks, 2012)
• OPPIs also effective for older age group50+ (Proyer et al., 2014)
• Evidence for multi-modal interventions (Drozd et al., 2014; Cobb et al., 2013; Bolier et al., 2013)
• Acclaimed cost-effectiveness not proven yet (Bolier et al., 2014)
![Page 17: Bolier et al is1](https://reader033.vdocuments.site/reader033/viewer/2022050919/547c2d58b4af9fbe158b51a9/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Future research
• Replications (see Mongrain & Anselmo Matthews,
2012)
• Designing for adherence and a goodperson-activity fit
• Improving and expanding of research designs
• Blended models: how to use OPPIs in healthcare and coaching practice?
• Implementation research: how to reachthe Flourish51 goal?
![Page 19: Bolier et al is1](https://reader033.vdocuments.site/reader033/viewer/2022050919/547c2d58b4af9fbe158b51a9/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
