Bokaro Steel City (Hindi: बो�का�रो� स्टी�ल सि�टी�)  pronunciation (help·info) is one of the largest Industrial city situated in the State of Jharkhand, in India. Bokaro is the 48th cleanest city in India and second in Jharkhand after Jamshedpur and one of the best cities to live in India. Population of the Urban area is more than 10,00,000 people along with urban agglomeration and with area more than 200 km2.

Bokaro Steel City is one of the most industrialized zone in India. Bokaro is famous for its Steel Plant which is the biggest in Asia. It is the fourth integrated public sector steel plant in India built with Soviet help. It also famous for its quality educational system. Besides, it is also a popular tourist destination for people from Eastern Region and also foreigners.

Bokaro houses companies like Steel Authority of India , Bharat Refractories Limited , Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited , Damodar Valley Corporation , subsidiaries of Coal India Limited , Electrosteel Castings Limited , Bokaro Power Supply Company Pvt. Limited (BPSCL) , Jaypee Group , Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and many more. Bokaro industrial area is located in Bokaro steel city established by state public sector BIADA (Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority). Around 500 SSI units are situated in this industrial area and they are having good infrastructural support.

The city is well planned, systematic and arranged in sectors. A lush green Bokaro is famous for its Steel Plant which is the biggest in Asia as well as for its quality educational system.

Situated on the Chhota Nagpur Plateau, the vast rolling topography of the city is typical, strewn by graded valleys and winding streams. In this setting, within a short period of three decades, a new city with a strong multi-dimensional economic base and became as a educational hub not for this region but for the entire nation, has blossomed into a regional urban centre of around a million people drawn from different parts of the country, giving the city the character of Mini India.

Bokaro is the headquarters of the Bokaro district as well as Koylanchal range (Bokaro, Dhanbad and Giridih). It is also one of the three headquarters of Police IG zone, apart from Ranchi and Dumka, covering seven districts- Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Giridih, Koderma, Chatra, Bokaro, and Ramgarh.[1]

Formerly there was a village named Maraphari(it is also pronounced as Marafari) deep in the jungles of Chota Nagpur. The closest village cluster was Chas. Purulia was the closest town and the area was ruled by the Maharaja of Kashipur. Folk lores have it that this area came under Mughal rule by the conquests of Man Singh. The region was named ManBhoom after him (VeerBhoom and SinghBhoom are the neighbouring regions also named after him, Veer Man Singh).

This remote place came into prominence when Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru planned to build the first swadeshi steel plant with the help of the Soviets. The proximity to coal, iron ore, manganese, and other raw materials had helped in the selection of this place. The steel plant was originally incorporated as a limited company on 24 January 1964, and was later merged with SAIL and came to be known as Bokaro Steel Limited(BSL). The late 1960s and early 1970s saw heavy construction of the steel plant as well as the township. The first blast furnace started on 2 October 1972.

The Sector III and Camps I and II were the first to come in the township followed by Sectors II, IX, IV and so on. The first private school came in the form of St. Xavier's School which the Jesuits from Hazaribagh built on invitation from the BSL management. The 1980s saw rapid development of the township with new sectors coming up, new schools, parks, zoos and other public amenities coming up. Township development ceased with the completion of IV/F and IV/G. In all Bokaro Steel City consists of 12 sectors out of which sectors VII & X do not exist.

The late 1990s saw sprucing up of the City Park and creation of islands, new schools and the success of Bokaro's students in all India level competition exams, specially IIT's. During this period Bokaro also emerged as the eastern hub for academics. Bokaro also boasts of having a unique cosmopolitan culture as the population consists of people belonging to all parts of India.Once Bokaro was having a large population of Sikhs but.

Bokaro is located in the eastern part of India at 23°17′N 86°05′E / 23.29°N 86.09°E [2]

It is located in picturesque surroundings on the southern bank of river Damodar with Garga, one of its tributaries meandering along the southern and eastern outskirts of the city. On the north, the city is flanked by the high ranges of the Parasnath Hills and on the south just beyond the river Garga, it is enveloped by the Satanpur hillocks. Two artificial cooling ponds have been built for use in steel making. A dam on river Garga has been built to supply water to the township as well as the steel plant, but due to ever increasing demand Tenughat dam is supplementing it.

As of 2011 India census, Bokaro Steel City had a population of 563,417.[3] Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Bokaro Steel City has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%, with male literacy of 93% and female literacy of 76%.It is the n87th largest city of india and among the top 100 cities of india out of 486 cities of india having a population above 1 lakh.

Apart from the existing Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), the city boasts of Electrosteel Castings Limited in Chandankiyari(15 km from City) which will begin production soon.

Bokaro Power Supply Corporation Private Limited, a joint venture of Damodar Valley Corporation and BSL, will be coming up with a 450 MW power plant.

Being an industrial area, agriculture has taken a back seat and is nothing worth mentioning except small amounts of paddy grown in the fringes of the city by the villagers.

The economy of the Steel City is heavily depended on the Steel Plant which is the primary source of income for the employees. After the 2001 downturn, steel prices hardened due to huge rise in consumption by China and India. This resulted in huge profits by SAIL which crossed a record Rs 6000 crores (USD 1.3 Bn)[4] by the end of FY' 06.

A European steel major has acquired 2,500 acres (10 km2) of land 18 km from the city and has started its erection of its 2.2 MTPA steel plant. They have invested close to Rs 80 Bn on this project which is operational from FY 2010-11.[5][6] It is located near at Asanbani village under sabra panchayat.

Bokaro Jaypee Cement Limited (BOJCL), the second joint venture between the Company and SAIL with management control vested in the Company, is incorporated to set up a 2.1 MTPA capacity cement plant at Bokaro Steel City.

The primary economy is supplemented by BIADA (Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority)governing four districts Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih and Koderma situated in balidih area of bokaro beside NH-23 it has a wide manufacturing environment having more than 170 square k.m constitutes more than 500 S.S.I and large manufacturing enterprises- which is an industrial area supplying most of the industrial supplies for the for large, medium and small companies, and there are some small mills making finished products out of steel as well as cement from the slag.

The Damodar Valley Corporation(DVC), a public sector is having their two big power captive plants Bokaro Thermal Power Station (BTPS) and Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPS) situated at Bokaro Thermal & Chandanpura respectively. Both these units have huge infrastructures.

The Coal India Limited, a public sector has their 2 subsidiaries in this district i.e.. CCL & BCCL respectively located at Bermo, Dugda & Chandankiyari area respectively. Both these subsidiaries are having rich infrastructure in the area.

Jharkhand State Electricity Board, State public sector has their one power captive plant Tenughat thermal power station (TTPS) capacity 420 mw . located at Lalpania near Tenughat in Bokaro District. This unit is also having rich infrasturctural support in the area.

The multinational private sector Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) has their India's only and Asia's Largest explosive plant Indian Explosive Limited Gomia in Bokaro. This unit has also huge infrasturctural support in Gomia. IEL factory is the lifeline of Gomia. More

than 80% of the population benefits from the factory, directly or indirectly. Annual turnover of IEL is approx 10000 Crs.

Bokaro Steel Plant Modernisation[7] and extend its capacity from 4.5 MT to 7.5 MT before 2011. In the same way, further plan for SAIL to extend BSL capacity to 17 MT before 2020. Apart from this a SAIL Greenfield steel plant is planned to set up before 2015, capacity of 5 MT. So before 2020 BSL total capacity goes up to 22 MT, appx. double the present capacity (13 MT) of SAIL all Steel Plants.BHARAT REFACTORIES.LTD has it's headquarter here.

ArcelorMittal [8] [9] Steel giant ArcelorMittal is looking to set up a 12 million tonne greenfield plant in Bokaro. The company is now looking for 8,000 acres (32 km2) of land but primarily take 2,500-acre (10 km2) of land at Petarwar/Kasmar (in Bokaro district) just 20 km from City, nearby on NH-23. The Company has been allocated 32-35 million cubic meter (mcm) of water to be drawn from the Tenughat dam. In Another move ArcelorMittal also taking an initiative to utilise the spare land of SAIL by establishing a new steel plant of 3-4 ml/ton capacity of 50:50 JV with PSU in BSL premises itself by the investment of $2.7 billion.

Tata Steel [10] - NDTV learnt from sources that Tata Steel wants to set up a steel plant with a capacity of 2-3 million tonnes at an investment of up to Rs. 14,000 crore in Bokaro along with SAIL. The jointly owned plant is proposed to come up on a 1,000-acre (4.0 km2) plot of land that belongs to SAIL.

SAIL -POSCO JV Steel Plant steel minister Sri Virbhadra Singh last month announced another new steel plant for Bokaro as part of a joint venture with Posco and SAIL by using FINEX technologies for high quality steel. The Capacity of Steel plant will be 1.5 mt, establish in BSP peripheri of 500 acres (2.0 km2).[11]

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation is preparing the groundwork for an aggressive retail strategy that will hold it in good stead in the coming years. HP are now putting up a Rs 100-crore ultramodern terminal and believe that it can grow by 25 per cent almost overnight as a result. In Bihar and Jharkhand where HP have no facilities but are now remedying that by setting up a huge terminal in Bokaro.[12]

Monnet Ispat & Energy Ltd [13][14][15] Monnet, which signed an MoU on February 5, 2003, has identified 1,300 acres (5.3 km2) for its project. Of this, 219.45 acres (0.8881 km2) is state-owned while 126.32 acres (0.5112 km2) belong to the forest department. The remaining land is owned privately by villagers of Kumhari and Dumrada in Chas block that is well connected by rail and road and Just 15 km from Steel City on Telgaria road. The company had identified 850 acres (3.4 km2) at Kumhari and 450 acres (1.8 km2) at Dumrada village, has so far acquired around 850 acres (3.4 km2) in Jharkhand where it is building a 2.5-million-tonne

steel plant. It needs about 2,000 acres (8.1 km2) for the project. Monnet Ispat will invest over Rs 14,000 crore for the project and is also building a 280-mW power plant.

DVC and SAIL [16] has a joint venture of 50:50 to extend the capacity of Bokaro power plant from 500 MW to 1000 MW.

ONGC [17] has started exploring Methane Gas for Commercial use from Parbhatpur (10 km from Bokaro).

SEZ  : Jharkhand government's second SEZ after Jamshedpur is planned to set up in BIADA in 500 acres (2.0 km2) land.

Software Technology Park [18] - Buoyed by the success of the software technology park (STPI) in the state capital, the government is planning to set up two more STPIs — one in Jamshedpur and the other in Bokaro. The Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority (Biada) to make land available for the projects. It has suggested availability of land in the Balidih industrial area, where the ancillary units of Bokaro steel plant are housed.

Classic and idbi, City centre

The primary economy is supported by the services sector. The city market situated at the center of the city in Sector 4 is full of shops. Of late a lot of shops selling computer hardware have come up along with a lot of computer training institutes making Bokaro a hub of computer studies for the region. The old Chas bazaar still remains a cheap wholesale market, and dundi baag is one of the biggest vegetable markets in the region. Besides these, each sector has its own small shopping center catering to the day to day needs of the people.

After a long period Bokaro administration has taken a step to turn Bokaro as a shopping hub for this region. An anti-encroachment drive has been launched in the steel city to make way for malls and multiplexes. The BSL administration, keen on ushering in the mall-plex culture of metros here, has prepared an ambitious blueprint to develop shopping destinations and multiple-screen theaters.To give an improved look to this planned city for the residents of this steel city and in a move to turn it into model township, Bokaro steel top bosses convened a meeting of its top officials including directors in which it was decided to build more shopping complexes, malls and multiplexes in sector IV, sector V, sector XI and in vacant lands behind the residences of Deputy Commissioner and Inspector General of the coal belt.Official sources stated that several projects for construction of multiplexes and shopping malls are in the pipeline and Bokaro steel was committed to beautify the green growing city which is fast turning into industrial hub with its new projects.[19][20]

The Bokaro Mall - With a cost of Rs 40 crore, The Bokaro Mall-cum-multiplex will soon come up in the heart of the city to cater to the needs of growing population of Bokaro Steel City. This new mall would be established in the 2 acres (8,100 m2) of land with Three Screens of Fame Multiplex, Big Bazaar, Restaurants, Food Court, Club with facilities of Sauna Bath, Steam Bath, Gym and Swimming Pool also. J P Agarwal,, one of the best architects in Eastern India has designed the multiplex which would equip with all modern facilities and would be open publicly by 2012(may be).[21]

Eylex Films Multiplex Devi Cinema is being converted into Three screen multiplex consisting 750 seats.[22]

A.V Quetzal Infrastructures Ltd is developing a mall in Bokaro having the total area of 30000 sqf of five storied multiplex in City will be operational in 2012 end.[23]

Bokaro Steel Plant Main Gate

Bokaro Steel Plant - Bokaro Steel Plant( 23°40′16″N 86°06′16″E / 23.671136°N 86.104531°E [24] ) is one of the largest steel mills in the country, with an output capacity of more than five million tonnes of salable steel. The plant also has a captive power plant, now being run by Bokaro power Supply Company Ltd., a 50–50 joint venture between SAIL and DVC. The plant is undergoing a huge modernization program, and the increased demand for steel over the last couple of years saw all the blast furnaces in the company becoming operational together for the first time. The company has about 30000 employees on its rolls as of 2005. The plant is fully integrated.

Garga Dam - Garga Dam is located around 12 km from the City Centre, Near to railway station on the NH-23. It is a picnic spot for the denizens of Bokaro. The green surroundings and variety of aquatic habitat residing in and around Garga Dam lures the school excursions and biological expeditions to this place. This dam is constructed for the use of steel plant as well as for the water supply for its people.

Parasnath Hills - Parasnath Hills are a range of hills located in Giridih district of Jharkhand. The highest peak is 1350 metres. In Jainism, the Parasnath hills are referred to as Shri Sammet Shikhar Teerth (Shikharji). They are one of the two most prominent Jain pilgrimage centers, the other being Shetrunjaya, located in Gujarat state of Western India. The hill is named after Parasnath, the 23rd Tirthankara. Twenty of the twenty-four Jain Tirthankaras attained salvation on

this hill. According to some, nine Tirthakaras attained salvation on this hill. For each of them there is a shrine (gumti or tuk) on the hill. Some of the temples on the hill are believed to be more than 2,000 years old. However, although the place was inhabited from ancient times, the temples may be of more recent origin. The Santhals call it Marang Buru, the hill of the deity. They celebrate a hunting festival on the full moon day in Baisakh (mid April).

Rajrappa - It is a tourist place and is famous for the 'Chinnamasta Temple' which is situated on the bank of the confluence of rivers Bhairavi and Damodar. The temple itself is nestled amidst dense plantation 8 kilometres away from the Colony. The place gets its name from the temple which is known as 'Rajrappa Mandir'. Rajrappa is just 60 km from the Bokaro Steel City.

Bokaro Ispat Pustakalaya - Located near Bokaro Hotel, it has a collection of over 40,000 books (including some valuable manuscript) that meets the reading requirements of the people in the township. It is managed by the management of the steel plant.

City Centre, Bokaro - The city center is the main shopping district of the city. Recent years have seen it grow more than threefold in size. The difference of this market and most other major markets in Indian cities happens to be the planning of the market. There is ample parking space, and the approach roads, as well as those inside the market are wide. The place houses almost all major Indian banks, has various shops in the city for clothing, electronics, and the best food joints. It used to be home for the only cinema theaters in the city, but only two of them (Jeetendra and Pali Plaza) is operational now. The latest comers to the market are coaching institutes, small clinics, and hospitals. Their rate of growth shows the demand these services have in the city.

Buddha Vihar - This pious place is located in Sector-IV/D. This is the single place in Bokaro for the Buddhists religious gathering.

Gayatri Mandir - Located in Sector-9/A. People use to visit the place during the morning and evening time for the daily prayer. Navmi puja at Gayatri mandir is also famous. Khichri is distributed as the prasad on the occasion of Navmi puja.

Aaiyappa Mandir - Located in Sector-5, it is an important social, cultural and religious meeting place for people from the South.

Ram Mandir - Located in the Sector-1/C is the most famous mandir dedicated to Lord Ram and smaller other mandirs encircling it dedicated to other gods and goddesses. The Ram Mandir market is also famous for its coffee house, batata poori, chat, samosa, phuchka and famous egg-rolls. Ram Mandir houses one of the oldest markets of Bokaro. The airport is 1 km from Ram Mandir.

Jagannath Temple, Sector 4 Jagannath Temple - Located in Sector-4, the newly built Jagannath temple is

another attraction. The temple is a replica of the famous temple in Puri, Orissa.

Kali Mandir - Located in Sector-8, it is one of the oldest temples of the city. As the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to one of the incarnations of Shakti, Goddess Kali. Besides the religious activities it is also a major socializing place for the Bengalis of the city. The temple organizes an annual painting competition attended by hundreds of students from the schools of the city.

Sai Baba Sansthan - Located in Sector - 6 near TV tower. Daily aartis at morning 5.30 Kakar Aarti, 6.30 Abhishek Aarti, 12.00 Noon Dhoop Aarti, at evening 6.00 p.m. Sandhya Aarti and 9.00 pm Shez Aarti are performed. A special aarti is performed every Thursday 8.00 p.m.

City Park - Bokaro has a City Park with an artificial lake. Recently three artificial islands have also been added. These islands were designed in Japanese style. The park used to have some animals but they were all transferred to the Jawaharlal Botanical Garden in the early 90s. There is a small guest house that is used to host parties for visiting dignitaries. A small restaurant, Vasant Vihar stands at the eastern edge of the lake. There is a small toy train which runs for some time early every year. The park also has a Shrine of Saint Hazrat Khundkaar Shah Rahmatullah 'Alayh where many devotees gather in large number during the yearly 'Urs Sharif. The park hosts an annual Basant Mela (Spring Fiesta) early February. The southern part of the park is used by thousands during the annual Chhatth puja in October/November.

City Park

Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park - The biggest zoological garden in Jharkhand was built in the late 80s and early 90s. It has animals and birds from different parts of the world, with the big cats being the biggest attractions. The zoo came into limelight after multiple breedings of white tigers, royal Bengal tigers, and the Asiatic lion over a short span of time. The cubs were sent to different zoos in India and abroad, since the available resources were not good enough to cater to the needs of so many big cats. Boating is allowed in the artificial lake created within the park. There is also a kids corner near bear cage and adjacent to it is a small dam.

Chas - Once a small grain trading hub of the region, this town first became famous during the Second World War when the British government used it as a base to supply soldiers fighting on the eastern front against the Japanese. After the decision of Government of India to establish the Bokaro Steel Plant it gained in stature. It was the administrative headquarters of the area when Bokaro was a part of Dhanbad district, and later when Bokaro became a district. Recently the headquarters were moved to the steel township. Chas continues to be a trading hub, but has uprised in importance after the rise of the township to the west. today chas is the main business hub for bokaro steel city, providing wholesale markets of many products. it is the main Hardware market of the entire region. NH-23 through the chas connects it to bokaro steel city. chas has many residential colonies like Bhojpur colony, Gujarat colony, ramnagar colony etc.File:Chas.jpg

Pupunki Ashram - The last Kasba in the Bokaro Dhanbad route is Pupunki. The village, along with its fields and captive fishery ponds is squeezed between NH-32, Bokaro-Chandrapura Railway line and the Damodar river. Opposite to this village across the NH-32 is the pious Pupunki Ashram "The Multiversity". Established by Akhanda Mandaleshwer Sri Sri Swami Swarupananda Paramhansha Deva, popularly known as Babamani. This Ashram was an age old home for Gurus who used to harbour Gaushalas with hundreds of students being imparted scientific and spiritual knowledge in the past. One can still see the remnants of the past with many rituals still intact in this Ashram. This place is also a popular picnic spot these days.

Chandrapura - A town famous for Chandrapura Thermal Power Station, a unit of Damodar Valley Corporation. It was a major source of pollution for the adjoining areas owing to the coal-based generators, but things changed after electrostatic precipitators were installed in the chimneys, and large-scale afforestation was carried out. The town lies on the northern edge of perhaps the most polluted river in the world, the Damodar.

Bokaro (Thermal) - A town famous for Bokaro Thermal Power Station, a unit of Damodar Valley Corporation(DVC).It is the oldest power plant of Asia. It has two power plants BTPS-A and BTPS-B.BTPS-B generates 600 MW of electricity.

[edit] Nearby Areas Jainamore - A one of the 42 village in Jaridih block of Bokaro. Situated on the

NH-23, it is around 7 km away from the Bokaro Steel City railway station. It also houses a large migrant population from Asansol, Ravatdih, Mahuaar, Kanchnpur and Kundori who live and work at the Bokaro Steel Plant.

Balidih - Balidih is a industrial area. It is located parallel to NH-23 have an area of more than 28 km from main city .It has an honour to hold the core industrial area of bokaro with its regional office as BIADA(bokaro ind area dev authority) and have well modernised communication channels. It has an Railways Stadium which provide good infrastructure for athletics and football games. It also has facilities for indoor sports like table tennis, badminton, chess, billiards and outdoor sports like swimming, tennis, etc. for its people.

Siwandih - Siwandih is adjacent to NH 23 which is passing through Bokaro. Its a village housing a large number of migrants mostly Muslims from Bihar living and working in the Steel plant. It lies southwest of Bokaro near the railway station and the Garga Dam. Popular neighborhoods in Siwandih are Bansgora, Islampur, Makhdumpur Millat Nager and Haisabatu. There are a number of popular mosques in this neighourhood.

Tenughat - Also known as Tenu, is famous for Power plant and Dam on river Damodar. A beautiful place for tourists.Sightseeing of Dam is just awesome. The place is noted for the Tenughat Bird Sanctuary. Other premier landmarks are Tenughat College, Tenughat Dam and Tenughat Thermal Power Station. Aiyar, Gumia and Petarbar are nearby area.

Pindrajora - It is a small village around 20 km from Naya more. It hosts the only Primary Teachers Training College of Dhanbad and Bokaro. It also has a State Government Basic School and a Sarvodaya high school.

Chas - Chas is a 70 year old twin city with Bokaro. Chas is also included in the Urban area of Bokaro Steel City having Population of More than 250000. Chas market is one of the biggest wholesale market in the region better known as the wholesale market of the B.S.City district. It is situated on the junction of National Highway 23 and National Highway 32. Chas has a Municipal Corporation naming Chas Nagar Nigam.

Ukrid - Ukrid is a Village in Chas Tehsil , Bokaro District and situated on NH-23 which connects to Ranchi.

Co-operative Colony - Cooperative colony is the private neighbourhood build by the ex-officers of Bokaro Steel Plant. Its located close to Naya More as well as the Bokaro railway station. It is spread over a big area enclosed by a boundary wall and there are three gates for entry and exit from this colony. The main gate is called Cooperative more. A few medical clinics and the famous Manpasand sweet

shop are located close to the main gate. The neighbourhood houses a small shopping complex, Kali mandir, Hanuman mandir, Community hall besides other public amenities.

Besides the steel plant, Bokaro is also known for what the students from the city have achieved over the years. The students from the city schools are well known to excel in numerous public competitive examinations especially in engineering and medical streams. The wave of success was started by Prasoon Kumar Jha who topped [Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination(IIT JEE)] in 1993. The following year 1994 saw Neeraj Sinha topping several national level medical college entrance examinations, including the ones conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER, Pondicherry). Not only did Neeraj Sinha excel in medical college entrance examinations, but he achieved a covetable AIR (all India rank) of 105 in IIT JEE. Neeraj joined the prestigious All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS) at New Delhi that year to pursue his MBBS degree. Chandan Mishra and Rajeev Ranjan Rakshit achieved outstanding IIT JEE AIRs of 3 and 8 respectively the same year. All the above mentioned students (Prasoon, Neeraj, Chandan, and Rajeev) belonged to Delhi Public School at Bokaro Steel City. Subsequent years have continued to witness students from the city excelling in all major entrance examinations of the country. Bokaro is a dream destination for IIT JEE and CBSE medical aspirants as the education here is quite focused toward competitive exams. The city also boasts of very large expatriate population in US, UAE, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In fact during 90's and early 2000s Bokaro used to have more than 100 students clearing IIT JEE every year.

Mohan Kumar Mangalam Stadium

MohanKumar Mangalam Stadium- This stadium is situated in heart of the City, in sector 4. The stadia is entirely managed by BSL, hosting major events in city. The bench capacity of stadium is about 30,000[1] with a corporate gallery for VIPs. This stadium host major National and State football leagues. Apart from this it also provides good athletics track for other games. Stadium is also HQ of SAIL Football Academy.The SAIL Football Academy students' team has three Subroto Cup to its credit.

SAIL Football Academy - SAIL football academy nourishes football from school level and provides free education to students who perform well in Football. Bokaro school teams participate every year in Subroto Cup and have emerged as winners on many occasions.

Senapati cricket stadium- Situated just behind the Mohankumar Mangalam Stadium this is newly structured stadium in front of Bokaro Library. It has hosted some Ranji Cup and state level matches. The base camp for National Women Cricket team was also organized at this stadium. It is also managed by BSL. The construction work is is on to increase the seating capacity.

Railway Stadium- The stadium is situated near to Bokaro station in Balidih area. It is managed by Indian Railways[2] and host athletics and Football. Accommodation facilities for the players is also provided at a nearby hostel.

Trainees Hostel ground- To accommodate the large number of local and guest players, lodging facility is provided by Trainees hostel No.1 & No.2. Hostel-1 also provides facility for other sporting events, such as Weightlifting, Basketball etc.

Bokaro Club & Ispat Club - Situated in Sec.5 and Sec.4 respectively, these facilities provide access to indoor sports like Table tennis, Badminton, Chess, Billiards as well as for sports such as Swimming, Lawn tennis to the sport lovers.

There are facilities for learning several games from professionally qualified coaches, such as volleyball, basketball, handball, table tennis, kabaddi and khokho. Several players from the city have also represented India at International championships.

Bokaro Sangeet Kala Academy offers learning opportunities in many a fine art, especially classical music. The students also get opportunities to showcase their talent and training amidst august gatherings. Kala Kendra in Sector - 2 is another center for Arts and Culture.Besides, the schools of Bokaro also provide courses in music, dance, arts and culture to the students to help them develop into well rounded individuals.

Festivals like Dussera,Diwali, Eid and Chhath Puja are celebrated with enthusiasm across the township.The cosmopolitan nature of the place has resulted into a culture which is a

melting pot of cultures from all across the country. The clubs and community centers, along with the many social organisations, are fulcrums of socio-cultural activities in the township.

Bokaro General Hospital

The township has a modern 910-bed Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) with specialised units like Critical Care Unit, Intensive Coronary Care Unit, Haemodialysis Unit, Nuclear Medicine Laboratory, etc. The Child Care Unit of BGH has been recognised as a Baby Friendly Hospital by UNICEF. The Blood Bank of BGH has been given the status of Regional Training Centre by Government of India. It is the only blood bank in the state of Jharkhand, which has been recognised to impart training to blood bank officers and technicians in Jharkhand.

To take care of the employees working in the plant, an Occupational Health Services Centre with modern facilities has been provided within the plant premises. Bokaro General Hospital is recognised by the Indian Medical Council for imparting training to Housemen and Interns and also by the Nursing Council of India for training of Student Nurses. Bokaro General Hospital has the distinction of being the only one in Jharkhand being recognised by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi as a centre for imparting post-graduate training to candidates appearing for the Diplomat of National Board examinations. The medical team boasts of around 200 skilled doctors and over 1000 paramedic staff.

The 10 neighbourhood health centres provide primary health services to people for minor ailments and are a valuable network during free immunization drives.

A new Dental college has came up in Sector-6 of 120 bed capacity. Also Jharkhand government has planned a medical college of 1000 bed capacity in the city. Apart from these more than 2 dozens of Private hospital and nursing home serving health service in the city.

Bokaro steel city station is one of the most important railway station under south eastern railways and well connected directly with all major cities Delhi, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Amritsar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow, Jabalpur, Patna, Nagpur, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Vishakapatnam, Guwahati, Bhubaneshwar etc.. Bokaro Steel City is the main station of the city situated at 12 km from City Centre. All mail/express trains including Rajdhani, Garibrath, Jan Shatabdi and Shatabdi stops here.

Road

Bokaro also lies on the junction of NH-32 and NH-23. NH-32 passes through Chas whereas NH-23 passes through the main city.

Naya More is the Main Bus Terminal planned for 500 buses at a time. Bus stand is divided into platforms for each private buses. A Government Bus Terminal is just adjacent to main Bus Terminal. Besides Naya More there are two more Bus Terminal,

Basanti More in Sector-9 and Dharamshala more in Chas. Regular Volvo bus service from City centre and Naya More are also available.

Private cars and taxi facilities are available everywhere in the city. Regular commuting in the city is supported by numerous trekkers, autos, rickshaws and mini buses. The city boasts well maintained roads in whole state as the maintenance is under authority of Steel Plant.

Air

Bokaro Steel city airport is currently used only by private carriers of Sail and dignitaries,. The Steel City is all set to figure in the commercial flight map soon, with Air Deccan initiating the process to launch its flights between Bokaro and Kolkata. Bokaro Steel Limited has expressed its readiness to allow the use of its airport for the purpose.[25]
