INTRODUCTION
Center for Research and Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine
(CRDMPTM) conducts based service-Jamu clinical research (Saintifikasi Jamu) at
Saintifikasi Jamu clinic.
The patient number of SJ clinic increase. The increasing number resulted in
increasing need for simplicia as Jamu raw materials.
Several kinds of Jamu raw materials are needed in quite higher volume than others
such as gotu kola (Centella asiatica), sow thistle (Sonchus arvensis) and celery
(Apium graveolens).
Those commodities are cultivated by farmers and CRDMPTM. Some farmers sell
their crops to CRDMPTM and some others sell them to collecting seller.

OBJECTIVES
to calculate the efficiency of the production of gotu kola, sow thistle and
celery at the farm level;
to identify the farmer effort in maintaining the quality of the crops;
to calculate the efficiency of marketing gotu kola, sow thistle and celery;
to identify the work for value addition conducted in CRDMPTM post
harvesting laboratory;
to calculate the efficiency of the value addition.
Production efficiency:
R/C Ratio = total revenue obtained by farmers
Production cost
If R/C Ratio > 1, the production is efficient.
Marketing efficiency:
Em = Marketing cost x 100%
Material price
If Em < 50%, marketing process is efficient

Result & discussion
Production of sow thistle, gotu kola and celery by the farmers were efficient. It is indicated by R/C ratio >1. Efficient production means farmers could obtain revenue that was more than production cost
The work that was done by farmers to maintain the cropquality depended on the commodities.
Sow thistle: avoided planting during rainy days, washing thefresh material before they sold it.
Gotu kola crops farmers: intercropping cultivation, usedfoliar fertilizer, washed and aerated the crops beforeselling.
Celery gave their plants more manure. In this case, manuredid not only have function as fertilizer, but also as mulch.

Marketing efficiency
All the marketing efficiency were less than 50%. Marketing efficiency of sow thistle was 4.95%. This figure indicated that for each cost spent during marketing process could gain result 20 times.

Work for value addition
Based on the analysis of work for value addition, the work has not been efficient yet for gotu kola and sow thistle (R/C ratio <1).
Work for value addition in CRDMPTM
CONCLUSIONS
1. Farmers in Tawangmangu cultivated gotu kola, sow thisttle and celery
efficiently.
2. To maintain crops quality:
- gotu kola: intercropping system, using foliar fertilizer, washing and
aerating fresh material before selling it;
- sow thistle: farmers did not plant it during rainy days and they washed the
fresh material immediately after harvested;
- celery: using more manure and pesticide to eradicate the pest. .
3. Marketing business for gotu kola, sow thistle and celery run by seller were
efficient.
4. The work for value addition conducted by CRDMPTM on gotu kola and sow
thistle were not efficient.
