A Word from Pope Francis Emails, text messages, social networks, and chats can also be fully human forms of communica on...Social networks can facilitate rela onships and pro-mote the good of society, but they can also lead to further polariza on and division between individuals and groups. The digital world is a public square...where we can either encourage or demean one another.

PARISH SOCIAL MINISTRY OUTREACH MONTH

How is the Gospel proclaimed not only in the pulpits of our parishes, but also in the everyday lives of Catholic people? Bishop Fabre quotes the Irish author James Joyce who said “Catholic means ‘Here comes everybody.’ We are a church of many races, colors, ages, experiences, and languages. We are men, women, and children, rich and poor alike. As Catholics, we are missionary disciples called to reach out to everybody. Our outreach may a ract others to the Church, (because of our love witness) but even if it doesn’t, we are s ll called to reach out to people—not because they are Catholic, but because we are.” The September issue of the Bayou Catholic calls us to remember and live out the Catholic Social doctrine founded on the dignity and respect for human life.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS FOR CEMETERY

Should a hurricane or tropical storm come our way, we ask you to pick up any flowers & containers you have in the cemetery. If you choose not to do so, we cannot guarantee that they will be there after the storm.

PRAYER FOR HURRICANE SEASON

O God, our Father in heaven, through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former calmness; you are still the Master of land and sea. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies and protect us from future storms. Amen.

If you would like to donate flowers for the altars to remember a loved one, please

contact Hilda Guidry at 693-3919.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Although New Year’s Day has been fixed firmly on January 1 for several hundred years, Labor Day has the feel of a great dividing line between leisure and rou ne. The pace of life has since picked up, and new sched-ules and commitments crowd us. In the background is God’s call to consider the third commandment, s ll life-giving and binding, to make holy the Lord’s Day by worship and rest. Jews see the Sabbath, Saturday, not so much as a day of worship, but as a day of rest, a day of renewing friendship with God by deligh ng in the beauty of crea on and the joy of family and friends. It is a day for contempla ng the wonder of God’s crea-

on, but not disturbing it. For Chris ans in the first three centuries, the Lord’s Day, Sunday, was not for rest, but worship. It was a regular work day. People met before dawn, and a er Eucharist hurried off to daily rou nes. Today we come to Mass, but many hurry off to essen al work, not a day of rest. The Lord’s Day is not the Sabbath, but we can enhance Sunday’s ability to transform us if we consider embracing some Sabbath values: having a family meal, going for a walk in a beau ful place, making room in our lives to open ourselves more fully to holiness of life in Christ.
