The minimum distance between the widest part of a body well and a wall or fence must be 55 cm, i.e. approx. 50 cm from the outer edge of the framing

If a fence must be erected closer than 50 cm from a body well, its foundation can be laid during the body well’s construction. If the wall/fence does not require a cast foundation, and screw piles or a similar attachment method has been used instead, it may be constructed 5 cm from the framing after the framing has been installed.

Installation restrictions

If there is an lifting container or a waste bin shelter at the end of the container row, the fence must be at least 50 cm from the framing. If, however, the fence is closer, its maximum height must not exceed 80 cm. This is vital for allowing the container lid to be opened properly.

If the fence is installed closer than 50 cm from the framing, we recommend that the fence be lower than the framing (less than 1 m tall). Otherwise, when the containers are emptied in the winter, any snow on top of the fence/lid will easily get inside the containers.

The parts of the fence located above the ground can only be installed after the containers’ framing and lids have been installed.

If the wall/fence does not require a cast foundation, and screw piles or a similar attachment method has been used instead, it may be constructed 5 cm from the framing after the framing has been installed.

HANDLING THE BODY WELLS AT THE INSTALLATION SITE The body wells must be lifted off the transport vehicle in a upright position by using the loops installed for this purpose. Slings no less than 1 m long or lifting beam must be used when lifting. The body wells must not be dropped, tilted on their sides or rolled at either the installation site or temporary storage area. The body wells must be kept upright while in temporary storage and while the products are in still encased in their protective plastic cover.

INSTALLATION SITE Containers must always be installed according to the instructions and recommendations, and unhindered access for waste collection vehicles close to the containers must be guaranteed, even in winter conditions. The containers are equipped with lifting bags that can be lifted up from above and emptied through the bottom. Any fences, trees, bushes, posts, roof structures, eaves, etc. around the installation site must be taken into account. Before the installation, the containers must be inspected, the ground’s suitability for the installation must be verified (excavation), and a map of cables and pipes at the installation site must be acquired. If the installation site is located on so-called wet soil, any additional anchoring that may be required must be provided (securing the anchor feet with concrete). ANCHORING WITH CONCRETE Concrete should be used to anchor down the body wells if the installation site is extremely wet or its groundwater level can rise to high levels. A 5 m3 container requires 0.75 m3 of concrete and a 3 m3 container requires 0.5 m3. Spread the concrete evenly over the anchor feet, creating a layer of roughly 300 mm in width and 100 mm–150 mm in thickness. Check that the body well is level and let the concrete hydrate for approximately 1–2 h, after which you can complete the filling process. ANCHORING THE SURFACE CONTAINERS If necessary, the containers can be attached to the base with screws or bolts. The attachment method depends on the material of the base.

DIMENSIONS OF THE INSTALLATION PIT • A minimum of 1,750 mm in depth for deep containers • A minimum of 750 mm in depth for short containers • The bottom of the hole must be at least 500 mm larger than

the container on each side so that the container can be correctly installed. More space will allow the work to go smoother.

• Compaction every 200 mm. • A max 100 kg compactor

7

A finishing layer of approximately 100 mm, filling the space up to the container’s installation level with crushed rock, rock dust or a similar material. PLEASE NOTE! Any tiling, asphalting, etc. must be taken into consideration when deciding on the height of the finishing layer. Make sure the surface is sloped to allow any surface water to run away from the containers. Sloping should start outside the framing area. Framing area has to be level.

An evenly spread filler layer up to the finishing layer; crushed rock of 0/16 mm or 0/32 mm is recommended. Compaction every 200 mm. An anchor layer in accordance with the illustration; a 500 mm layer using 0/32 mm crushed rock. Careful compaction every 200 mm to protect the container from excess pressure. We recommend using a compactor of max 100 kg.

Compacted base layer The installation hole for the containers must be dug according to the instructions. Any risk of a collapse must be taken into account. The bottom of the installation hole must be level and compacted. Crushed rock 0/16. Verify that the bottom is level by using a spirit level or a laser. Permitted height deviation 1 cm.

D

C B

A

The surface of the compacted base layer must be 1,525 mm (deep) or 510 mm (short) lower than the final ground level (including any asphalt or tiling). The specific ground level is determined towards the end of the filling process by taking measurements from the top of the container.

2.

Page 8: BODY WELL INSTALLATION GUIDE - Finncont

Anchor plates are placed between the body wells, and the plate ends must be positioned at the same level as one another. The iron bars delivered with the containers are placed between the anchor feet at the front and back of the body wells, and these bars are used to determine the distance between the bottoms of the containers.

825 mm

Page 9: BODY WELL INSTALLATION GUIDE - Finncont

The positioning planks attached at the factory are used to position the tops of the body wells in relation to one another. Once the planks on top of the body wells are in a straight line and their ends are firmly against each other, they are attached to one another with screws. The plank ends must be positioned with great care and accuracy. The positioning planks may only be detached from the body wells once the installation pit has been completely filled. Once the planks have been attached to each other, verify that all the containers are perfectly vertical by placing a spirit level on top of the container rim.

Installing the lifting container The lifting container’s body well bottom end is positioned using the iron bars (bars come in two lengths). One of the anchor feet of an body well of lifting container is always plastic, the other one metal. The metal foot must always be placed at the centre line of large containers and the plastic foot on the outer edge. The top of the lifting container’s body well is positioned similarly to the other container bodies using the frame attached to it.

Once the body wells are in their correct positions, you can start filling the pit with 0/32 mm crushed rock. The pit around the body wells should be filled as evenly as possible. Initially, begin filling the space underneath the body wells and between the anchor feet carefully with a spade in order to ensure that the soil provides uniform support to the container from all sides. The compaction of the anchoring and filler layers must be carefully done no less than every 200 mm. We recommend using a compactor of max 100 kg. The final ground level including any tiling or asphalting must be 950 mm (±10 mm) lower than the container’s top edge. Any tiling or asphalting must be done before installing the framing, meaning that the surface must be at its final height before the framing is installed. Please pay extra attention when installing the underground parts! If the body wells are not in line and at the same level, the framing elements will not fit.

Installing the framing

Place all the partition walls (6) to stand upright between the containers. If the container row ends with a bin shelter, its partition wall will have a pre-installed threaded rod for adjusting the bin shelter’s height. A sheet metal doorstop has also been attached with POP rivets to the end of this partition wall, on the side of the door.

Installation guide for the framing and lids

18

Always begin the installation of the front and back walls from the centre of the row. Attach the front and back walls to the partition walls with 4.8x12 POP rivets (black anodised head). Five rivets in each corner. Make sure that the container is at the centre of the surrounding framing elements and that the front wall of the framing is in line with the container row.

Installing the framing

Install the adjustable foots at the corners of the framing around a container. Each foot is positioned underneath the horizontal bars of the framing elements. At this point, the top-most plate is lifted up with nuts, so that the entire framing is no less than 5 mm above the ground. If a bin shelter is to be installed next to the container, no adjustable foot should be placed in the corner next to the shelter door. Instead, the partition wall will have its own adjustment mechanism.

Installing the framing DIVIDED CONTAINER Place the central profile on top of the container and adjust the position of the framing elements accordingly. The framing elements must be positioned so that the partition walls between the containers are at an equal distance from the containers on either side. The framing elements are in the correct position when these distances are the same. Surface containers come with pre-attached dividing walls, and you will only need to attach the container’s central profile. Surface containers may also be moved around to ensure that they are at the centre of the framing elements. DEEP AND SHORT CONTAINERS Attach the dividing wall’s top end with the separate mounting brackets intended for dividing walls. 1. Set the top end of the dividing wall in the correct position, i.e. directly

underneath the central profile, which is on top of the framing elements, and attach the dividing wall’s mounting brackets to the container body’s top ring with Ø 4.8x25 self-drilling screws (4 per bracket).

2. Make sure that the dividing wall is touching the base, i.e. that the wall’s top edge is not higher than the body well’s top surface.

3. Use these mounting brackets as a jig to drill the necessary holes into the dividing wall and attach the wall to its brackets using M8x35 hexagon head screws and nyloc nuts.

Adding finishing touches and adjusting the framing

If the container row includes one or more bin shelters, attach the shelter’s floor element(s) to the end wall and partition wall. Use the pre-drilled holes in the shelter’s bottom element as a jig when drilling the attachment holes into the end wall and partition wall. Attach the floor to the walls with 4.8x20 rivets.

If the container row includes an lifting container, lower it down to the correct position inside its body well. Make sure that the hatch at the bottom is closed and the opening device secured. The opening device handle should face the container’s front wall. Attach the organic-waste sack that came as part of the delivery using an octagonal hoop. The round hoop underneath the container during transport is only used as transport support for this product. 37
