Bob Ross ( 29 Oktober 1942 in Daytona Beach Florida dagger 4 Juli 1995 in New Smyrna Beach Florida) war ein US-amerikanischer Maler und TV-Star

Nach dem Studium der Malerei an verschiedenen amerikanischen Hochschulen entwickelte er ausgehende von der damals populaumlren Methode von Bill Alexander seine eigene Maltechnik eine besondere Methode der Nass-in-nass-Malerei mit der er unter Verwendung spezieller Farben und Hilfsmittel stimmungsvolle Landschaftsbilder schuf

1981 ging Ross mit seiner neuen Technik auf Tournee durch die USA ehe er sie ab 1983 in seiner eigenen Fernsehsendung The Joy Of Painting praumlsentierte Durch diese Sendung gelangte er zu weltweiter Bekanntheit und die Nass-in-nass-Methode wurde zum Exportschlager Unter anderem werden Lehrbuumlcher und -videos sowie Bob-Ross-Malsets verkauft Wer diese Maltechnik fuumlr Landschaften offiziell unterrichten moumlchte muss sich als CRI (Certified Ross Instructor) ausbilden lassen was europaweit momentan nur in Roermond Holland moumlglich ist Daneben gibt es noch Zertifikate fuumlr die Blumenmalerei (CRFI) Wildtiere (CRWI) und Portraumlts (CRPI) Letztere sind aber Weiterentwicklungen von anderen Personen Beispielsweise geht die Blumenmalerei auf Annette Kowalski eine Wegbegleiterin von Bob Ross zuruumlck die mittlerweile die BR Inc fuumlhrt

Bob Ross (October 29 1942 in Daytona Beach Florida ndash July 4 1995) was an American painter and television presenter He spent a twenty-year career with the US Air Force in medical records stationed mostly in Alaska before his painting career and television program made him famous worldwide He died in 1995 of lymphoma

He was the host of The Joy of Painting perhaps the most recognized most watched art program in the history of US television

With a bushy afro and a calm soothing voice Bob Ross taught viewers to paint happy little trees happy little clouds and pretty little mountains On occasion after cleaning his two-inch brush in paint thinner hed beat the devil out of it He believed that everyone has inherent artistic talent and given

half an hour anyone could paint a landscape by following his instructions and words of encouragement including his popular phrase We dont make mistakes we just have happy accidents The TV series also provided Bob Ross a platform to introduce his own and other peoples little rescued rascals including squirrels owls and robins

He introduced the wet-on-wet painting technique which is the application of wet paint on top of wet paint omitting the traditional waiting period for each layer to dry Combining this method with the use of large one-inch and two-inch brushes allowed Ross to paint trees water clouds and mountains in a matter of seconds

Ross took up painting while stationed in Alaska in the Air Force The geography of Alaska is visible in much of his later work on The Joy of Painting mountains lakes snow scenes and cabins were often mentioned as favorites of Ross Although it is commonly believed that Ross had no formal artistic training he said during one episode that as a pup he attended art school

He later expanded his show into a multimillion-dollar business that included how-to books a line of art paint brushes and courses in which instructors were trained in the Bob Ross method

The series was taped for eleven years until 1993 and is broadcasted in many countries worldwide As of 2005 The Joy of Painting was being shown on Turkish state broadcaster TRT (with the title Resim Sevinci) German television (BR-Alpha) Discovery Real Time (Sky Digital channel 250) in the UK and AT5 in Amsterdam among several other public stations across The Netherlands The show also runs in syndication on American public television stations and on CREATE a digital public broadcasting network

Ross style of quick methodic paintings has received some criticism from other artists and art critics who have called his style artificial and devoid of detail they point to the fact that he used a limited range of overly-simplistic techniques and that many of his landscapes lacked a basic grounding in the natural world Once at an art demo at a mall he was chased down in the malls parking lot by traditionalist painters carrying buckets of water and shouting at Ross to Scat

Supporters of Ross point out that he has helped many people discover the excitement of painting as well as providing a form of spiritual therapy helping many who suffer from depression and that this should be taken into account when considering Ross body of work and influence

March 31 2006 - In news that breaks free from the shackles of abnormal and jumps headfirst into the realm of surreal independent development studio AGFRAG Entertainment Group has announced that it is working on videogames based on the cult television icon Bob Ross

The afro-enhanced painter is known around the globe for his mild-mannered television show The Joy of Painting where he has for decades demonstrated his speedy skill with a paint brush The public access hit has been picked up by more than 3000 stations worldwide in its long run In 1995 Ross died at the age of 52 Many of his paintings were donated to PBS

The games which are being developed specifically for Nintendos Revolution console and DS handheld will be focused on the art of painting no doubt harnessing the precision accuracy of Nintendos control methods A PC version is also planned

AGFRAG made the announcement yesterday prompting concerns from skeptics of an early April Fools joke We contacted AGFRAG directly for clarification

The press release is not a joke but the side effect of people thinking it is might help us get noticed explained Joseph Hatcher who heads up the company brining Bob Ross to Nintendos systems

AGFRAG is Hatchers development group consisting of students independent developers and professionals in the game industry AGFRAG secured a worldwide exclusive licensing agreement with Bob Ross Inc just before the Game Developers Conference took place Hatcher revealed We are talking with various companies and plan to make an announcement near E3 regarding which platforms the game will be developed on first and maybe a surprise

Hatcher himself admits to being a big Ross fan which is partly why he wants to make games based on his work I personally loved watching Bob Ross growing up and I enjoyed watching how easily he created his paintings We want to translate that same feeling of watching the TV show into playing a Bob Ross game he said Whether you are an eight-year-old child or a 65-year-old grandma we want anyone to be able to pick up the game to create and play to your hearts content

When we think about videogames the name Bob Ross does not spring to mind But the DS and Revolution may be the best systems to bring the Joy of Painting to gamers The Nintendo DS and Nintendo Revolution are perfect platforms for what we have in mind Hatcher explained We like the way Nintendo carves their own path of innovation and creativity and we strive to do the same
