Thursday, 10/91900 - 2200 Oops My Bad –Bad Decisions by Patients, EMS and Medical PersonnelPresenter: Dr. Matthew EschelbachIn the spirit of the Darwin Awards and the humorous side of medicine, we will examine critical decisions that are not always the best ones. We all strive to be perfect in our work, especially when it comes to our patient care and evaluations. Sometimes the decisions we make are incorrect. Often times our patients have already made bad decisions thus landing themselves in our care. Come enjoy several case reviews where we attempt to teach as well as laugh a little.Dr.MatthewEschelbachistheDirectororEmergencyMedicineforStCharlesMedicalCenter,Redmond,OR.HereturnsthisyearasMedicalDirectorfortheEMSOregonConference.InadditiontohisdutiesasanERphysicianhealsoservesasEMSPhysicianAdvisorforRedmond,Lapine,Sunriver,CrescentandChemultEMSagencies.HeisamemberoftheEMTAdvisoryCommitteeattheOregonMedicalBoardwherehehelpsguidedirectionforOregonEMS.Hewastherecipientofthe“2003EMSMedicalDirectoroftheYear”,awardedbytheOregonHealthDivision.HisworkincludesestablishingregionwideEMSprotocolsandEMSeducation.

0800 - 0915General SessionColor Coding Kids the Broselow Luten SystemPresenter: Dr. James Broselow
(SponsoredbyEMS-C)
Color Coding Kids is a system of pediatric emergency treatment utilizing color-coded therapeutic pathways designed to increase efficiencies while reducing medical errors. Dr. Broselow will discuss the background of developing the Broselow Tape and the evolution of the concept to incorporate issues of pediatric patient safety. He will then demonstrate how the Broselow-Luten system attempts to address these issues specifically utilizing color coding as a user friendly approach to simplify all of the logistics associated with safe medication and fluid administration.
