New York , New York! What a wonderful town indeed – vibrant, cre-

ative, driven, stylish, hip and a bit chaotic – New York City means something different to everyone and presents itself with different personalities in every part of town, personalities that all meld back into one, undeniably alluring, metropolis. A place where anything goes.

BlogTour NYC was our second tour after launch-ing the concept at London Design Festival last year when we brought a group of design and life-style bloggers from the US and Canada to the UK to report back to their audiences and provide WKHPZLWKDÀUVWKDQGORRNDWWKHIHVWLYDODQGORWVof local culture. This time, we brought bloggers from the UK, Germany and the US to meet up LQ1HZ<RUNWRH[SHULHQFHWKHFLW\DQGLW·VPDQ\faces, showrooms, shops, design studios and the AD Show.

:H·YHDVNHGRXUWHDPRIEORJJHUVWRVKDUHWKHLUthoughts about the tour and their favorite places and were not surprised to see opinions range from the elegance of the D&D building, the cre-DWLYHGHVLJQVDWWKH$'6KRZ·V0DGHVHFWLRQWRRXU0RGHQXV0\&LW\WRXULQ6R+RDQGDQDIWHU-noon spent with Jonathan Adler.

Also unsurprisingly, most bloggers mentioned that their highlight was meeting and spending time with kindred spirits, with people who love and understand the meaning and importance of design and being able to share the excitement and inspiration with their readers.

The BlogTour community continues to grow through the support of past and future participants, WKHFXUUHQWWHDPLW·VZRUOGZLGHDXGLHQFHVDQGLW·Vsponsors as it offers design and lifestyle bloggers a chance to explore new design trends and differ-ent cultures while highlighting the inspired content these talented writers and photographers create every day.

I will be eternally thankfully to the long list of suppliers who made Blog Tour NYC possible. I knew in September 2011, the initial launch of Blogtour, that I was going to try my hardest to make the next one. When January 2012 rolled around and I saw my name "oating around FaceBook and Twitter as one of the attendees, I "ipped with excitement. Blogtour – !eWorld Designed is much more than a chance to travel with my virtual friends; it is an exploration of the design world beyond the borders of your front door and real life connections beyond the Internet.

Cecy J explores interior design, travel ideas, parenting, style, food and inspiring quotes on her blog. She describes herself as a “domestic god(ish),” admitting that while she can cook a decent dinner she still has a way to go before she can sew the tablecloth it sits on.

Being selected as one of 15 bloggers to take part in this trip was incredible in itself. I’m still not quite sure what I did to deserve it, but I felt very lucky indeed. In fact, I’m not sure I really believed it was true until we got on the plane!

Author of Interviews – a book featuring conversations with 18 designers. Katie writes for LivingEtc, Design Milk, Maggie’s, London Design Guide, We Heart and Heart Home Magazine. Somehow she also found time to win last year’s Design Democracy Blog Award.

Interiors PR specialist with a long-standing passion for mid-century modern, a recent obsession with neon colour pops and a weakness for soy vanilla lattes. Featured on the Times’ “Best Design Blogs,” Fabric of My Life also covers Kate’s take on fashion, travel, life style, and her home town, London.

!e challenge to break down the Best of Blog Tour NYC was an insane struggle for me.  Touring NYC with some of the hippest, most fun and creative people I’ve ever met, and getting the inside scoop on everything new and noteworthy in the design world provided me with enough highlights to write a book!

Choosing just one highlight from $ve days of wonder and excitement is a near impossible task! From the creative buzz of the AD Show to the serene elegance of the D&D Building, the artistic "air of Jonathan Adler’s HQ to the eclectic mix of interior boutiques in SoHo, there was so much to take in, to consider, to inspire.

‘!e moment I stepped into the Virgin lounge at Heathrow and met up with my fellow design bloggers, I knew BlogTourNYC would be a once in a lifetime trip to remember. Arriving at Manhattan’s Tryp Hotel and watching the #BlogTourNYC gang learn how to drink from a Porron (a Spanish glass drinking vessel!), with jet lag I might add, set the fun tone for the exciting week ahead.

Being part of BlogTourNYC really was an unforgettable experience. New York is a place I have always wanted to explore and the design scene there is one that continuously surprises and excites me. Being chosen by Modenus to take part in the tour was a real honor and receiving this recognition for my blog really was a great reward for all the hard work I put in.

If you love your ceiling fan, ignore this ad.

You obsessed over every bit of furniture, floor option and window treatment. But when it came to the ceiling fan, you just went with . . .“whatever.” Haiku® takes “whatever” out of the equation, exceeding expectations you didn’t know you had.

In a class of its own Haiku looks di!erent because it is di!erent, with revolutionary technology hiding inside the seamless fit and finish at its center. The sleek look conceals Sensorless Drive Technology™ that delivers an 80% improvement in e"ciency over conventional ceiling fan motors. Confirmed by ENERGY STAR® as the world’s most e"cient ceiling fan, Haiku also won the prestigious international red dot award, a prominent seal indicating quality design.

Don’t call them blades Haiku’s patent-pending Thin Sheet™ airfoils span 60 inches and feature an aerodynamic profile, resulting in smooth, silent airflow (in fact, it’s also the quietest fan in the

world—at all speeds). Haiku airfoils are made of Moso bamboo, a sustainable resource with the tensile strength of steel that renews itself every five years.

After multiple quality inspections and a seven-pass, solvent-free finish to highlight the natural grain, five thin

sheets of bamboo are bonded in a hot forming press, then cut and sanded by hand to create airfoils that meet the strictest quality standards. (Actually, there are only two companies in the world that could create our unique bamboo airfoils—one in Germany, the other in Michigan. We chose the U.S.)

Each airfoil is then individually fitted as technicians confirm the perfect balance of every fan.

Stealth operation Haiku’s sophisticated control features include Sleep, Timer, Reverse, and variable speed settings, including the exclusive Whoosh™ mode to simulate natural airflow. This is the one fan you’ll dare turn all the way to high—its unique core and 13-step hand-balancing process mean it will never rattle or wobble. Ever.

Quirky name. Serious fans. We don’t make ceiling fans. We make precision machines. After a decade of engineering high-performance industrial air movement products, we heard your request: to make a home fan worthy of being called a Big Ass Fan.® Here it is. And it’s the most e"cient. The quietest. The most sustainable. If you love your fan, move along. If you don’t love your fan, leave it for us. Call 855-694-2458 to start your a!air today.

BRUNCH WITH POGGENPOHL AND BLANCO

“My favorite of Blanco’s latest line up is their new Cerana Apron Front sink. Its clever reversible design can swing traditional or more contemporary depending on how you posi-tion it, with rounded corners on one side and sharper more modern contours on the other. Unlike many bulkier fireclay sinks, it has a TVQFSTMJNEFTJHOBOEBEVSBCMFmOJTISFTJT-tant to stain and chipping. This is a total winner in my book.

Poggenpohl has forged another partner-ship with well known chef Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin fame. It is the perfect pairing of two innovators in their respective fields, devel-oping a kitchen that is an ideal merging of FMFHBODFBOEFGmDJFODZ BMMPXJOHUIFIPNFcook to be socially involved with their guests in a beautiful well functioning space. We were treated to a lovely brunch in the new kitchen he designed, demonstrating its thoughtful pro-fessional touches.”

Beginning with a tour of products and the showroom, Blanco presented some of their latest and greatest, which indeed are, and work beautifully within the handsome Poggenpohl framework. I have owned several Blanco sinks and can personally attest to their excellence in design, quality and longevity.”

I had no idea how wildly successful the walk-ing tour that I had arranged on last day for BlogTourNYC would be. I suggested to Veronika Miller of Modenus that Leaf Magazine would like

to sponsor a private tour of The High Line for her visiting interior and lifestyle bloggers. I thought UIFDPOUSBTUCFUXFFOUIFJSSBQJEmSFWJTJUTUPUSBEFshows and showrooms would be interesting for them.

Even though The High Line has gotten incredible publicity and is now a major tourist attraction in New York City, it is, like all outdoor spaces much more impressive in real life than it will ever be in photographs. Designed by James Corner’s Field Operations on elevated railroad tracks winding through the far west side of Manhattan and almost at the Hudson River, The High Line offers a dif-ferent view of the city and its concrete canyons. The naturalistic plantings designed by renowned plantsman, Piet Oudolf offer a counterpoint to all of that hard-edged urbanism.

The late March weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Sunny and warm, we met at the northern end of Section 2 at 30th Street. Up the steps they came, most unaware of what they were going to experience. The High Line is also high style out-side. The neighborhood has grown up around it and is now one of the most expensive and sought after. World class architects like Jean Nouvel and Frank Gehry have designed buildings in what was once a neighborhood of warehouses and indus-trial buildings. The Whitney Museum of American Art is building its new museum there.

We walked the entire length taking pictures, talking about New York, discussing design ideas and generally enjoying the morning. When we got almost to the end of the new section – what’s currently the middle of the park, we stopped for a photo to remember the sunny day and the lasting friendships that were made.
