President Brender L. Gregory recently traveled to Durban, South Africa to
visit Christianenburg Primary School and Clernaville Primary School. The
purpose of the visit was to increase accountability and strengthen the
Foundation’s relationship with the schools. Both schools have an open-
door policy for Foundation members because they are proud of their
academic programs and student achievements.
The visit at Christianenburg Primary School began with classroom
observations and a tour of common areas. Special attention was paid to
completed facilities projects funded by the Foundation. The tour of the
grounds was followed by meetings with the Principal Krish Mothilal and a
panel of students selected as Students of the Month from grades 6 and 7.
Ms. Gregory stated that she was “so moved by the students love for
learning”. The visit at Christianenburg concluded with the first annual
audit of equipment donations and facility improvements for the school. We
are pleased to report that the school passed the audit with no material
findings.
Similarly, the appointment at Clernaville Primary School was very
successful and informative. Unlike Christianenburg, this was her first
official visit to Clernaville. Principal Zamani Ngidi shared the challenges that
children of color face in the school system. He further expounded upon the
vast facility and infrastructure needs of their school. It was evident that the
teachers have a great love for education and the students. We also are
pleased to report that Clernaville passed its first audit of equipment and
supply donations without any material findings.

The BBYEF Schools Committee is pleased to present its updated grant proposal
policy. These standard operating procedures establish application procedures
for member schools to follow that will ensure that grants are issued in a timely fashion.
The application and decision period coincide with the academic year of the three-member schools and
ensures that decisions are made within 90 days from the date the application is received. As such, the
member schools can benefit from the grant awards within the same year as the funding request.
Members of the Schools Committee have established a rapport with each of the principals and
administrators of the member schools and communicate with them on a regular basis. BBYEF is very
proud of its accomplishments thus far. To date, the foundation has among other things:
Purchased textbooks and dictionaries for students at all three schools
Financed the tiling of seven classrooms at the Christianenburg School
Purchased caps and gowns for graduating seniors at the three schools
Purchased Science Kits for students
Purchased audio visual equipment for use
The Schools Committee welcomes new members and friends of the BBYEF. There is much work to
accomplish. Persons interested in serving on the schools committee should complete the application for
membership to the BBYEF and express an interest in joining the Schools Committee.
