New Molding Compound?
• A combination of a new proprietary resin and a new proprietary mixing technique that takes BMC beyond the previous limits.
• A NEW COMBINATION of MATTER
The New Resin Family Combinations
• Tg – Around 250°C is typical • One Variation 450°C, 11 days - stronger at end of test • Chemical Resistance – Excellent • Adhesion to Fillers – Unparalleled • Very Low Moisture Absorption • 100% Solids – No Styrene or VT • Mixer Temperature100°C with Catalyzed Resin
What is it?
SECTION I. PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION PRODUCT NAME: XXXX MOLDIING
COMPOUND
PRODUCT CLASS: EPOXY BACKBONED OLIGOMER, MODIFIED WITH ESTERS OF (METH)ACRYLIC ACID
DOT DESCRIPTION: NOT DOT REGULATED
The BMC Made from the New Resin
• The ability to manufacture BMC with unique properties is enhanced when the catalyzed resin cam be mixed at elevated temperatures.
• Possible only with No VOCs • A myriad of previously unused fillers can
be used. Unparalleled ADHESION

One Unique NEW BMC Application
Pump Wear Ring What was Required?
• Tough • Soft • Hard • Flexible • Stiff • Easily machined • Does Not Absorb Water • Does Not Wear the Shaft
Nothing Sticks To Kevlar
• Kevlar – Softer than the shaft, strong and non-abrasive
• Ceramic Beads – To ride on the shaft • When we asked for a sample of Kevlar we
were told we were wasting out our time, “Nothing sticks to Kevlar. Molded Kevlar parts can not be machined”.
Machined Kevlar/Ceramic filled BMC Wear Rings (+/-)0.001 in. (0.00254 cm)
3 Years in the Field
• After three years as production water pump components there has been no measurable wear on any of the rings or shafts.
• Previously difficult applications required a rebuild every three weeks to replace the wear rings.
• Returned pumps destroyed for other reasons have been inspected and no wear was found.
Data Sheet Engineering
The hardest thing to communicate is that you do not have to be limited.
New Higher Temp and more Chemically Resistant BMC
Our thanks to
Asbury Graphite Mills for helping develop a newer version of the
wear resistant BMC with major advantages over the Kevlar.
