Elevated mixing temp means lower viscosity. The resin is pre catalyzed and mixed at temperature. This is not possible with styrenated resins. If the adhesion is stronger than the fiber reinforcement the limit is the strength of the reinforcement. Nothing sticks to Kevlar.

Physicals can be optimized. Inherent with the resin is surface hardness, increased flow, and Tg. Flow can be eaten up with higher filler loading. We have gone as low as 13% resin. MESA spiral flow of as high as 27” were achieved with different versions of the resin.

Machining smooth parts requires more adhesion between resin and the filler than the force exerted by the tool to cut the fiber. Glass is harder than the steel shaft and the shaft wears.

3 Years in the Field

• After three years as production water pump components there has been no measurable wear on any of the rings or shafts.

• Previously difficult applications required a rebuild every three weeks to replace the wear rings.

• Returned pumps destroyed for other reasons have been inspected and no wear was found.

One pump the epoxy paint on the out side of the pump was scorched and blackened from the heat of the pump running dry. The wear ring and the shaft under the wear ring looked like new.
