BluetoothKeyboardOverviewThissectionreviewsandexpandsgeneralnavigation–movingaroundtheiPad’sHomescreens–usingaBluetoothkeyboard.Forgeneralnavigation,QuickNavisOn.ParticipantsshouldalreadybefamiliarwithnavigatingtheiPad’sHomescreenswithVoiceOvergestures.ItismoreefficienttouseaBluetoothkeyboardratherthantheon-screenkeyboard.TheBluetoothkeyboardcandrivetheiPad,especiallywhenusingtheshortcutkeyboardcommands.AdditionalBluetoothkeyboardcommands,suchasmovingbetweenopenappsandcreatingfolderswillalsobediscussed.AllactivitiesinChapter3willhaveQuickNavOn.

BluetoothKeyboardRecommendationWhenpurchasingaBluetoothkeyboardforyouriPadorotheriOSdevices,makesurethatthekeyboardhasarrowkeyssoyoucanusethe“QuickNav”featurewithVO.Youwillalsowantthe“hidekeyboard”key,whichtypicallyhasakeyboardsymbolwiththreerowsofdots.(Intheimagebelow,thehidekeyboardkeyisthe6thkeyfromtheleft.)ApplekeyboardsaredifferentthanWindowskeyboards.ApplekeyboardscontainanOptionkeyandaCommandkey(cmd).WindowkeyboardscontaintheAltkeyandtheWindowskey.IfyouareusingaWindowskeyboard,youcansubstitutetheAltkeyfortheOptionkeyandtheWindowskeyforthecmdkey.YouwillalsowanttheControl,OptionandCommandkeystogethertotheleftofthespacebar.WhenVoiceOverison,thesekeysorcombinationsofthesekeysareused.(Example:Control+Option+Awill“readall”fromthecurrentposition.)SomebrandsofBluetoothkeyboardssplittheControlandOptionkeys(oneoneithersideofthespacebar),whichmakesitphysicallychallengingtopressthesekeysplusanotherkeysimultaneously.

BoneConductingEarphonesRecommendationAfterShokzareanopeneardesignearphonesthatallowstheusertolistentotheaudiowithoutblockingsoundsintheenvironment.AfterShokz,whichareearphonesconnectedbyabandthatgoesbehindtheuser’shead,restontheboneinfrontoftheearcanal.AfterShokzrequirecharging.AfterShokzarenowavailablewithaBluetoothconnection,eliminatingthewires.AirDrivesareanotherbrandofboneconductingearphones.

SearchScreenFromtheHomeScreenonly,youcanfindeverythingthatisonyouriPad:anapp,song,event,book,emailbyaspecificpersonortopicthread,titleofaspecificPagesdocument,orspecificperson’scontactinformation.WhenintheSearchtextfield,simplybegintypingthedesiredwordandeverythingassociatedwiththatwordwillbedisplayed.ToaccessSearch,gototheHomescreen(VO+H).ConfirmthatQuickNavisOn(left+rightarrows)thenuseoption+uparrow.TodismisstheSearchscreen,presstheHomekeyorVO+H.
