Detroit’s Laura Rain and the Caesars transform funky soul and r&b into their own unique vision. Inspired by the spirit of classic recordings of a bygone era, Laura Rain creates her own envi-ronment of expression with a powerful and soulful voice.

Formed in the Motor City in 2012 with her husband George Friend, the pair set off on a creative journey writing and recording their own music. The two garnered many accolades within the music press and radio with their debut release “Electrified” in 2013.

Performing with a stripped down line-up of organ, guitar and drums the band developed it’s signature sound, and cultivated a vintage toned energetic foundation.

The second release “Closer” (2014) expanded the sound exposing the bands’ love for Memphis soul, juke-joint blues and tough Detroit funk and r&b. Starting in 2014, the band began touring heavily within the U.S. and Canada. Starting in Chicago with regular appearances at the House of Blues and Buddy Guy’s Legends, Laura Rain has stunned audi-ences with her intensity and powerful voice.

Performing in over 25 states from California to New York,

the band has delighted audiences with their dynamic performances. Featured at the Mississippi Valley Blues Festi-val, Marquette Area Blues Festival, Ed-monton Blues Festival, the Legendary Blues Cruise and many other top tier clubs and festivals, Laura Rain and the Caesars continue to grow making new friends and fans along the way.

In October 2015, the release of the third album “Gold” broadened their audience considerably thanks to substantial Tri-ple A airplay of the single “Work so Hard” (a pounding homage to Motown). “Gold” also propelled Laura Rain onto

the national radio charts making the top 50 on Roots Music Report for numerous months, and holding at #1 in the state of Michigan for over a year! 2016 highlights also included a tour of France and winning a prestigious Detroit Music Award for “Outstanding Blues Songwriters.”

With the upcoming release of the fourth recording “Walk with Me,” Laura Rain pushes the envelope of her unique soul music. Channeling inspiration from Detroit’s long his-tory of dance music, funk, blues, soul and r&b, Laura Rain gives modern music a raw, yet sophisticated shot of much needed authenticity and heart.

It’s a FREE show with some great bands – come out and enjoy an early fall Sunday. Bring lawn chairs, no outside coolers please.

Over the course of his career, Tommy Castro’s San Jose DNA has always inspired his music, whether he’s squeezing out the deepest blues or the funkiest soul grooves. He and The Painkillers—bassist Randy McDonald, keyboardist Michael Emerson and drummer Bowen Brown—have played hundreds of shows to thousands of music lovers, always leaving his audiences screaming for more. All of his albums are filled with original blues, soul and West Coast rock, each song showing a slightly different side of Castro’s multifaceted musical personality. Billboard says the band plays “irresistible contemporary blues-rock” with “street-level grit and soul.”

On his new album, STOMPIN’ GROUND, Tommy Castro opens windows into both his past and his always-evolving musical future. Produced by Castro and guitar wunderkind Kid Andersen and recorded at Andersen’s soon-to-be legendary Greaseland Studio in San Jose, STOMPIN’ GROUND finds Castro letting loose on a set of 12 tracks featuring six originals and new versions of songs he learned and played as a young up-and-comer. He is simultaneously looking back with autobiographical originals and cover songs that inspired him, while forging a forward trail with modern lyrics atop blistering blues-rock. With The Painkillers firing on all cylinders behind him, Castro lays it all on the line from the opening notes of Nonchalant to the final, introspective Live Every Day. From the autobiographical My Old Neighborhood to the socially aware Enough Is Enough and Fear is The Enemy to versions of Elvin Bishop’s Rock Bottom and Taj Majal’s Further On Down The Road (two of his favorite songs from his earliest heroes), STOMPIN’ GROUND is pure musical pleasure. “As soon as we started cutting,” Castro says, “we knew we were onto something.”

Best Self-Produced CD winner 2017 IBCs, JUNO Award Nom-inee and Billboard Top 10 Blues artist JW Jones tours con-stantly, and is known for his high-energy live shows.

Canada’s national newspaper, the Globe and Mail, referred to this Maple Blues Award winner as “one of this country’s top blues guitar stars.”

JW’s new release ‘High Temperature’ was named the Hot Shot Debut on the Billboard Top 10, and is the follow up to

the JUNO Award nominated ‘Belmont Boulevard’. From the liner notes: “Acclaimed Nashville producer Colin Linden takes Jones into new territory with warm, analog-driven tones, and a wide-range of material. His evolution as a musician and vocalist shine through on this record like never before. Real songs, real playing by real people, and JW is the real deal.”

– Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones)

In early 2016, Jones was requested directly from George Thorogood & The Destroyers’ management to open for sev-eral of their spring tour dates, including Massey Hall in To-ronto. The band received a standing ovation at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

The same year, Jones toured the UK for the first time, cre-ating a buzz that resulted in glowing endorsements from members of the band Vintage Trouble, and Joe Bonamas-sa’s UK publicist, Peter Noble. In 2015/2016, JW played over 100 high-energy shows per year, including being invited five times to perform alongside Buddy Guy, and twice with Woodstock legends, Canned Heat.

Lucky Peterson, whose real name is Judge Kenneth Peterson, was born in December 1964 in Buffalo, New York. His earliest musical memories are from an early age, since his father, James Peterson, had the Governor’s Inn, a blues club and renowned jazz drained all local artists and those visiting the city. The aspiring musician so immersed in music very early and quickly learns the essence of blues and all its secrets, starting with its ba-sic message, the transcendence of everyday that passes through the scansion of these words and haunting melo-dies with hypnotic rhythms ...Happy as a fish in water in this pool of creativity, Lucky Peterson has never hidden his status and particularly lucky child prodigy.

THE DELGADO BROTHERS with WICKED GRIN

Thursday September 21st • $12Chrome Lounge • 8552 Park Dr, Omaha, NE

Though they came out of the same East L.A. scene as Los Lobos and El Chicano, the Delgado Brothers -- frontman Joe, bassist Bob, and drummer Steve with keyboard player Billy Steinway -- forsake Hispanic inspiration for the most part, relying instead on blues/R&B and sweet vocal harmonies. Signed to the Hightone label, the group worked with produc-ers Bruce Bromberg and Dennis Walker (Robert Cray), and released The Delgado Brothers in 1987.

After laying low in the first part of the ‘90s, the Delgado Brothers re-formed at the urging of John “Juke” Logan. Percus-sionist Ray Solis was added to round out their Latin beat and R&B mix. “Let’s Get Back” on the Mocombo label brought the Delgados back to the fold, where they continue to play up and down the West Coast.

Canada’s WICKED GRIN

opens the night at 6pm!

From the artist’s website

This cd was recorded in Austin being co-produced by Anson Funderburgh and Andy T. Funderburgh also supplies guitar on several cuts. Singer Nick Nixon- who had to leave the

Andy T. Band featuring Alabama Mike and Special Guests Nick Nixon & Anson Funderburgh

Double Strikeband for health reasons- supplies vocals on half the cuts, with new singer Alabama Mike singing the remainder of the songs.

The album has a great old-school R&B feel throughout. The outstanding Tex-as Horns play a big part in creating this touch. Andy T. is a very tasteful guitarist that is restrained and doesn’t over-play. Funderburgh plays a similar style of guitar that adds a very refined style on a number of songs. Nixon and Alabama Mike supply a great soul air with their singing.

I really enjoy one of the few slow tracks sung expertly by Nixon. Juanita shows what a nice delivery Nixon has on this genre of tune. I also like the opening number, I Want You Bad, which is sung by Alabama Mike. It is a kind of walking blues that makes for a cool opening. The eighth cut, also sung by Alabama Mike, has some fantastic B3 work by Mike Flanigin.

I don’t think there is a weak song on this cd. If you favor old style blues and R&B, where the melody and feel are para-mount, without the histrionics and over-the-top soloing, this should be to your liking.

BANDS AND VENUES…HELP US HELP YOU!!! HELP US PUT MORE BUTTS IN MORE SEATSThe Blues Society of Omaha maintains a powerful calendar of events on its website, omahablues.com. We invite all venue and band managers to take advantage of this free opportunity for promotion. Since we are an all volunteer organization, we ask you to get an account and help us by maintaining your digital space on this calendar. Our calendar has the following features:• A real-time page showing the most timely upcoming events.• A powerful search engine for users to find specific events by name, venue, band, and date.• Events pages that allow rich text, photos, and external links to band site and venue pages. Much of the page is generated automatically from

the venue page. It also makes it easy for use to add events to their calendar and to use a map.• Venue pages that allow contact information and photos, map insets linked to full mapping, and links to external sites.• For bands, we have a band listing page with links to individual band pages. These are full free-form WordPress pages supporting text, graphics

and links.• The site works well on mobile devices like smartphones. If you are interested, please contact Sid Sidner at [email protected] to learn more and to get registered for a free account today.
