On behalf of Castlerock Marketing it is, indeed, an honor to be able to managethe LONGEST RUNNING Angus sale in Canada. When the call came this spring Iwas immediately excited! In early July when I was touring Ontario selecting the cat-tle for the sale one couldn't help but be impressed by the cattle as they were endur-ing one of the driest summers on record. I always have found that while droughtsare something that nobody wants to experience, on the other hand it forces the cat-tle to rise above the challenges and the good cattle will always rise to the top. Thegood cattle are exactly what I was looking for and came out with for the sale.

The offering consists of a great cross section of fancy heifer calves that havethe look to show and the genetics to work as top mother cows. The bred heifers se-lected are quite powerful and carry some interesting services that will undoubtedlypay off with their resulting calves. Anchoring the offering are the cows - proven ma-trons that are sound, quality cows that will continue on in their production being atop investment. With the stock market being all over the map, these cattle that arebeing offered in the Bluewater Sale will be worth the chips.

The Bluewater Sale has a rejuvenated look and we know you will be impressedwith the offering. As always the cattle coming out of this sale will work for their newowners. Join us Friday evening to a viewing of the sale offering. Saturday a compli-mentary lunch will be served with donations being accepted that will go towards theJuniors to help fund the various activities that benefit these young people in somany ways.

Should you be unable to attend the sale but would like an honest evaluation onthe sale cattle feel free to give myself or any of the sales staff a call. Your best inter-ests will be served in the animal the meets your needs.

See you sale day!Shane CastleCastlerock Marketing

On behalf of the board I would sincerely welcome youto the longest running Angus Sale in Canada. This is the65th Blue Water Club Sale.

The sale committee this year wanted to put a bit moreemphasis on sound replacement cattle with good pedi-grees, while not forgetting the commercial breeder’sneeds. We believe that this has been accomplished withthis offering today.

Believe me it was hard to pry these cattle out of theconsignors’ herds because they are herd building animals. We need to thank the consignors for their work in prepar-ing the cattle for offer this afternoon.

The beef industry is in constant change but here is oneaspect that doesn’t change and that is the Angus breed’sability to efficiently convert feed to profit. High feed coststhis year are going to demonstrate this very efficiency.

Whether you are looking today at calves, bred heifers,or cows this offering this afternoon will perform for you.To you, the purchaser, we would like to thank you for yourconfidence in the sale and wish you the best with you newacquisitions!

Sired by Bismarck and exuding feminity throughout, this powerful Jan-uary heifer calf is one of our favourites. Her dam, our first heifer purchasedin 2008 when we started our Angus herd, has done anything but disappoint.6S is pictured here and, as you can see, her deep body, length and incredi-ble udder are all traits that her daughter is going to possess. With the pair-ing of Bismarck, 3Z will be a force to reckon with in your herd.

Don't miss this opportunity to grow your herd. Halter broke & ready toshow whether your are a Junior or just an Old Fashioned Angus enthusiast.

Pur-chased from the Remitall Angus Dispersal, 6Y has shown natural thicknessand depth of body from the start. Lot #28A - Glen Islay Mayflower 12X

Lot #29A - Glen Islay Miss Burgess 18Z (note - she’s halter broke)

12X is one of the first Mayflower fe-males that we have sold. We have anucleus of females that excel in tender-ness as identified by DNA testing withIgenity, and our Mayflowers are verystrong. Less than half of one percent ofAngus cattle score 10 out of 10 for ten-derness, and this cow’s mother is one offour progeny from Mayflower 9C that allscore 10.

We used B.C. Rocket 44 becausehe is high in tenderness as well, and asa result this 12X cow is an 8 and hercalf (also selling) is a 9.

We believe the demand for tender-ness as the DNA technology advanceswill be significant and here is your op-portunity to be ready when the timecomes for those premiums.

This moderate frame young cow isthe result of a flush we did with Len MarFarm on their top producing “12F” cow. We only sell one daughter of BonnieChance Bardolene 10A (born l969) eachyear and, like all the others, she has anexcellent udder and will last for a longtime.

Her calf at foot in Lot #29A tellsyou she definitely knows how to pro-duce the good ones.

The Canadian Angus Association, through theCanadian Angus Rancher Endorsed program, haslaunched a partnership with

Kelowna-based Cedar Creek Estate Winery. CedarCreek Estate Winery is the first official industry partner inthe Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed program.

The partnership was launched on October 22 at theGala Event at Red Roundup, an annual celebration ofCanadian Red Angus cattle. Approximately 275 people at-tended the banquet at Westerner Park in Red Deer.

“Our partnership allows both organizations to runcross-promotions and cost share, which leaves moremoney on the table for additional promotions,” saysMichael Latimer, assistant general manager of the Cana-dian Angus Association. “Because this promotional

campaign is unique to the Canadian market, it will be

far more eye-catching for consumers who have been

bombarded with a million advertisements for wine or

for beef products, but have never seen promotion for a

winery and beef program together.”

Cedar Creek Estate Winery was specially selected be-cause it is a family owned and operated business that

closely aligns with the values of Canadian Angus pro-

ducers.

Winery president and proprietor Gordon Fitzpatrick sayshe sees the partnership as a natural fit between great

beef and great wine.

“Angus is one of the biggest brand names outthere. Everyone knows the name Angus,” Fitzpatricksays. “The story is so important to the brand. We all havean obligation to tell our stories. People want to know wheretheir food comes from. They want to know the story behindit.”

The Canadian Angus Association and Cedar CreekEstate Winery have already held two wine and beef tastingevents in British Columbia, and consumers have been ex-cited to learn the stories of the Fitzpatrick family’s wineryand the Canadian Angus Association’s CanadianAngus Rancher Endorsed program. They were alsoeager to learn what types of wine fit best with different cutsof beef.

The Canadian Angus Association is Canada’s largestpurebred beef breed organization. The Association rep-resents 3,000 members across Canada for the purposesof registering and recording the pedigrees of purebredAngus cattle in the closed Herd Book and promoting thebreed across Canada. The member-approved mandate isto maintain breed registry, breed purity and provide serv-ices that enhance the growth and position of the Angusbreed.
