News from the Secondary Counselor Greenwood Laboratory School Student, Joshua Cox, Achieves Top ACT Score.
Joshua Cox, son of (parent/s) Todd and Ronda Cox and a junior at Greenwood Laboratory School, earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36.
Only around two-tenths of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2018, only 3,741 out of more than 1.9 million graduates who took the ACT earned a top composite score of 36.
The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and sci-ence, each scored on a scale of 1–36. A student's composite score is the average of the four test scores. The score for ACT’s optional writing test is reported separately and is not included within the ACT composite score.
In a letter to the student recognizing this exceptional achievement, ACT CEO Marten Roorda stated, “Your achievement on the ACT is significant and rare. Your exceptional scores will provide any col-lege or university with ample evidence of your readiness for the academic rigors that lie ahead.”
The ACT is a curriculum-based achievement exam that measures what students have learned in school. Students who earn a 36 composite score have likely mastered all of the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in first-year college courses in the core subject areas.
ACT scores are accepted by all major four-year colleges and universities across the US. For more information about the ACT, please contact ACT at 319.337.1028 or e-mail [email protected].

Vaping Education Assembly for Secondary Students There is a vital topic that needs to be addressed in our community. The epidemic, and that is the word we are using, of teenagers being harmed from the use of e-cigarettes and vaping is not okay. At Greenwood Laboratory School we plan to fully educate our secondary students on the danger-ous, and life threatening effects of vaping. Students will be educated on the medical facts of the damage this is causing teenagers nationwide. Dr. Sadaf Sohrab will present on the medical and scientific reasons that teenagers (and all) should avoid vaping. Some of the general topics with more specifics in the presentation will be: Effects of vaping on the lungs Recent developments and research that cause such life threatening concerns The risk factors overall of vaping and the lifelong affects How young people are specifically being affected Our assembly will be Friday, November 8
th at 1:45-2:15 for grades 6-8 and 2:20-2:50 for grades 9-
12. The middle school students will have a similar message, but the high school students will re-ceive a more in depth presentation. If you have any concerns, please contact Jeni Hopkins at [email protected] or Loret-ta Jean-Charles at [email protected]
