Introduction
There are 8 planets in the solar system. They are
called: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter,
Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto which is a
Dwarf planet. The Sun surrounded by a family of
planets called the solar system. This family is held
together by an invisible force called Gravity, which
pulls things towards each other. We live in the
Milky-Way.
Neptune
Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun. It is a cold, dark place that’s the smallest of gas giants. It was named after the Roman god of water and sea. Neptune is a ball of gas and ice with a rocky core, mainly of frozen methane gas. Winds reach speeds of up to 700 miles an hour.
Uranus
Uranus is a giant icy ball of gas and liquid with a solid centre. It’s the seventh planet from the Sun. Uranus is so big it can fit 50 Earth in it. When viewed from space Uranus is a pretty pale blue colour. Scientist think a planet as big as Earth may have crashed into Uranus at some point, tipping it on it’s side.
Uranus
Uranus looks smooths but isn’t solid so spacecraft
can’t land. On Uranus winter lasts 21 years and
half the planet is darkness. Uranus takes 84 years
to orbit the Sun. On Uranus winter lasts 21 years
and half the planet is in darkness. During Summer
which also lasts 21 years, the sun shines all the
time. Scientists have to use telescopes to see
Uranus’s rings.
PlutoPluto was discovered in 1930 it is cold, icy and brown in colour. Pluto is a dwarf planet
and has 3 moons the biggest moon is called Charon discovered in 1978.Pluto is on the very edge of the solar system. It takes 5 and a half hours for sunlight to reach Pluto. Pluto has three moons around it:Charon,Nix and Hydra.Charon is about half the size of Pluto. The diameter of Pluto is 2320km and the atmosphere is methane and no magnetic field.
The Sun
The Sun is the solar system's power station, generating vast amounts of heat and light energy. In the scale of the Universe, the Sun is not particularly large or powerful, but it is the only star scientists have been able to study in detail. The sun is 50 times hotter than boiling water. It takes 8 minutes and 20 seconds for the sun rays to reach Earth.
Moon
The Moon is a round, hard rocky ball. It is
the brightest object in the night sky. Nearly
four moons could fit across the earth. The
moon is made of pale-coloured rocks. These
rocks reflect the light from the sun. The
Moon doesn’t make it’s own light.
Moon
Scientists think that the moon is made of rock from earth and from a small planet that hit earth along time ago. The sun and moon seem to be about the same size from Earth, but really the Sun is much bigger than the Moon. They only seem to be the same size because the Sun is a lot further away from the Moon.
Satellites
A satellite is an object in space which orbits ,or
goes around, a lager object, such as a planet. The
moon is Earths natural satellite, but now the Earth
has lots of man-made satellites as well. Satellites
have to be taken into space, by rockets or by the
space shuttle, and released at the right speed to
stay in orbit. They come in all sorts of shapes and
sizes.
Satellites
Signals and messages cannot be sent in a
straight line from one country to another
because of the curve of the Earth, so
satellites above Earth are use to make the
connections. Television signals are sent
from a dish aerial to a satellite in space.
