D&AD PRESIDENT’S WELCOMESTEVE VRANAKIS, D&AD PRESIDENT

WELCOME TO THE 2018 D&AD NEW BLOOD FESTIVAL.

THIS EVENT CELEBRATES THE FUTURE OF OUR INDUSTRY AND THOSE WHO WILL GO ON TO SHAPE IT.

THERE IS SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR CREATIVE EXCELLENCE IN THIS ROOM. BUT THAT POTENTIAL CAN ONLY BE REALISED IF WE, AS AN INDUSTRY, TAKE COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY TO HELP TALENT BREAK THROUGH THE BARRIERS IT FACES.

NEW BLOOD IS VITAL TO OUR INDUSTRY. WITHOUT IT HIDDEN TALENT WOULD STAY HIDDEN, AND OUR INDUSTRY WOULD MISS OUT ON NEW IDEAS. AND TRULY GREAT CREATIVE MINDS WOULD MISS OUT ON THE LIFE CHANGING OPPORTUNITIES WE OFFER. D&AD’S MISSION IS TO EXPOSE US TO DIVERSE CREATIVITY IN ALL ITS FORMS, FROM WHEREVER IT COMES FROM. DIFFERENCE PROMOTES ORIGINALITY JUST AS A MONOCULTURE PROMOTES MUNDANITY.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THIS YEAR’S SHOWCASE. TODAY YOU WILL SEE THE WORK OF FUTURE STARS, FUTURE YELLOW PENCIL AND BLACK PENCIL WINNERS AND FUTURE INDUSTRY LEADERS. THEY WILL TAKE THIS INDUSTRY FORWARD AND HELP IT ACHIEVE GREAT THINGS IN THE YEARS TO COME.

THE INVESTMENT OUR INDUSTRY MAKES, NOW, IN NEW TALENT WILL GUARANTEE THE VIABILITY AND VIBRANCY OF OUR FUTURE, AND GUARANTEE US A MEANINGFUL PLACE IN A FAST CHANGING WORLD.

SO EMBRACE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD YOUR NETWORK, LEARN FROM THE INSPIRATIONAL TALENT THAT SURROUNDS YOU AND MOST IMPORTANTLY – FIND THE PEOPLE YOU WANT TO WORK WITH.

WHAT IS NEW BLOOD?

New Blood is the next generation of creatives, ready to lead the way and kick our industry into shape.

At D&AD, our New Blood programmes are all about finding, showcasing and developing this fresh talent. New Blood Festival is the place where it comes to life, with up-and-coming creatives from around the world putting the future on display.

Over a thousand graduates, from some of the best creative courses, will be showcasing their work – giving you the chance to see the next crop of talent before anyone else. There’s a map of all the exhibitors in our guide, but feel free to just wander and soak up the atmosphere of raw creativity.

We’ve also got the industry experts on hand to choose some of their own highlights, so keep your eyes peeled for ‘Best Stand’ and ‘One to Watch’ stickers if you really want to

get ahead of the crowd. We’ll also be taking a handful of exhibitors through to the 2018 New Blood Academy, getting them ready to really shake up the industry.

And if that’s not enough, there’s two days of talks by some of the best and brightest from the creative world, and a host of Fringe events and workshops.

For a full, up-to-the-minute event line-up go to dandad.org/newbloodfestival or stay in the loop @DandADNewBlood

ONES TO WATCH

A panel of industry experts have scoured this year’s festival to find the individuals whose work they think well and truly stands out above the crowd. These individuals have become our ‘One to Watch’ winners whose work is highlighted using the sticker to the right, so be sure to keep an eye out for these future rising stars.

Not only do our ‘One to Watch’ winners get highlighted for the world to see here at the Festival, there’s also the chance to win one of a few coveted ‘Wildcard’ places at the New Blood Academy (our 2 week creative bootcamp), so this really is a big deal.

We’ll also be highlighting our New Blood Pencil winners and Academy attendees with their own stickers (also featured right) so keep your eyes peeled!

D&AD FOUNDATION

The D&AD Foundation partners with agencies and studios all over the world to support emerging talent from all walks of life to get a foothold in the creative industries.

At the heart of the Foundation is New Blood; The Awards, Festival and Academy open eyes to creative opportunities and doors to careers. New Blood is driven by a powerful mantra, ‘Win One, Teach One’ – for every Pencil won there is learning for the next generation. To enable students to hit the ground running we use the unique insights that we get from our professional and New Blood Awards to create learning experiences which build upon those offered through university.

But that’s not where our goal ends. We’re also committed to enabling a more diverse range of talent than ever before to flourish.

New Blood Shift (open for applications until 1 August) is our intensive night school programme that places an emphasis on raw, untrained talent. Shift shows young minds, who aren’t able to take the conventional route through education, how to apply their abilities and craft to start a new career. For more information visit dandad.org/ShiftLDN

None of this would be possible without our many industry collaborators. If you’d like to add your agency’s voice and support to our agenda, get in touch – [email protected]

NEW BLOOD AWARDS

The D&AD New Blood Awards are a chance for new talent to show the old guard what’s what.

This year we had 17 briefs, and one brand new category, set by some of the biggest brands out there. Our briefs are designed to push young creatives to their limits. Those with the stamina and raw ability to take on these top-notch challenges had their work judged by a discerning jury, made up of a who’s who of industry leaders.

Earning a coveted Pencil is instant recognition of talent and potential, but it doesn’t end there. We talk about our Pencil winners to anyone who’ll listen, spotlighting the people behind the projects and sharing their work online, in the press, and at exhibitions. We go a step further by also giving them the chance to win a place on the New Blood Academy.

We’ve already counted the votes and confirmed the results, now all that’s left is for you to meet the new creative generation – with all the Pencil-winning work on display here at the festival.

The New Blood Academy with WPP is a creative bootcamp that connects promising young creatives with some of the best in the business for an intensive two weeks of mentoring, talks, workshops, hacks and live client challenges.

The aim is to teach skills that universities and art colleges don’t to provide, and to boost each person’s potential to secure paid internships within the WPP global network of agencies.

Attendees have the chance to collaborate across disciplines, skillsets, and nationalities, and gain a better understanding of their own creative practice and career goals – with the aim of catapulting the new creative generation into the industry.
