The season has finally begunfor Shildon Railway Juniorsafter weather delays andpostponements.Shildon started as theyended last season with hightempo, high energy playwhich Fulwell couldn't copewith. This resulted inShildon’s Greg Upton beingup ended in the box. Uptonpicked himself up anddespatched the penalty withease sending the keeper thewrong way.Shildon's defence wassuperbly organised withJordan Tomlinson showinghis versatility by droppingin to marshal from the back.Shildon’s attacking play andshort passing on the breakplayed dividends when a
pinpoint cross by Joe Joycecaught out the Fulwellkeeper for Danny Shoulderto power home from closerange. This could have been a goalfeast for Shildon with Uptonand Stainthorpe missingeasy chances from closerange.Credit to Fulwell who re-organised for the second halfand played a high line in anattempt to stifle the hometeam. To an extent i tworked with Shildon’sDobson and Stainthorpebeing court offside on morethan one occasion.Fulwell also increased thepressure on Shildon and thispaid off with Shildon failingto clear a corner leading to
the ball being blasted pastHodgson in the Shildon goalleaving him no chance.Fulwell for a time lookedlike spoiling the party withShildon's lack of pre seasonpreparations taking its toll, but on the break could easilyhave taken a morecomprehensive lead withTomlinson missing chanceslate on which as the seasongoes on will see him score.Special mention to stand inkeeper Hodgson for pullingoff one save when thepressure was on from Fulwelland could of changed thegame. Final score - ShildonRailway Juniors 2, FulwellJuniors 1.Man of the Match went toJordan Tomlinson.

A Shildon man returned theSouth Durham Magistrates’Court last week where, whenhe appeared on August 6ththis year, he admittedcharges of ‘driving whilstdisqualified’ and ‘having noInsurance’.The Defendant also faced athird charge, that of ‘drivingwith excess alcohol’ ,however no plea was enteredto that charge at thatHearing. All three offences arealleged to have beencommitted in Shildon’sByerley Road on July 30thwhen the Defendant was atthe wheel of a Ford Transitvehicle. The Solici tor act ing onbehalf of 45 year-oldRonald Emphram Daykin,of Holly Hill in Shildon,Mr. Michael Clarke, toldthe earl ier Hearing thatDaykin fully accepted thathe had been driving thevehicle and that he was, infact, a disqualified driver, hence the ‘Guilty’ pleas tothose charges.
ADJOURNMENT INCASE OF BANNED
DRIVER ACCUSED OFDRINK-DRIVING
However, with regard to theallegation that Daykin wastwice the legal drink-drivinglimit, Mr. Clarke explainedthat the evening previously, the Defendant had drunkfour cans of lager prior to10.30pm and that he hadhad no more alcoholbetween then and the timehe was stopped by Policethe following lunchtime.Mr. Clarke went on toexplain that Daykin wascurrently taking aconsiderable amount ofmedication following aserious accident last year andit was possible that this mayhave adversely affected thebreath test reading. In light of this possibility,Mr. Clarke told the Courtthat it was his intention tocontact Daykin’s G.P. andthen a Forensic expert. The Magistrates agreed toadjourn the case until lastweek when, once again, afurther adjournment wasgranted unti l September24th .
