May the blessing of God’s light be on you, Light with out and light within.

May the blessed sunlight shine on you like a great peat fire, So that stranger and friend may come

and warm themselves at it. And may light shine out of the two eyes of you,

Like a candle set in the window of a house, Bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm.

May the blessing of God’s soft rain be on you, May it fall upon your Spirit And wash it fair and clean,

And leave there a shining pool Where the blue of Heaven shines,

And sometimes a star.

May the blessing of God’s earth be on you, Soft under your feet as you pass along the roads,

Soft under you as you lie out on it, tired at the end of day; And may it rest easy over you when, at last, you lie out under it.

May it rest so lightly over you that your Soul may be out from under it quickly;

Up and off and on its way to God. And now may the Lord bless you, and bless you kindly.

Amen.

Sending Forth Canticle of the Turning Text & tune: Rory Cooney, b. 1952, © Published by GIA Publications

Though I am small, my God, my all, you work great things in me, And your mercy will last from the depths of the past to the end of the age to be. Your very name puts the proud to shame, and to those who would for you yearn, You will show your might, put the strong to flight, for the world is about to turn. Refrain From the halls of power to the fortress tower, not a stone will be left on stone. Let the king beware for your justice tears ev’ry tyrant from his throne. The hungry poor shall weep no more, for the food they can never earn; There are tables spread, ev’ry mouth be fed, for the world is about to turn. Refrain

$25 Walmart Gift Cards Needed Many of us are grateful to be planning our summer getaways and we often are unaware of those who find the summer in Florida a struggle. Many people find themselves without work or with less than full-time work due to the slowing of the off season. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society is hoping to help meet the needs of our community’s working poor by collecting $25 Walmart gift cards. These cards are helpful in filling the gap for people who may find themselves underemployed or unemployed this time of year. You may place the gift cards in the box set up in the narthex or you may bring your donation to the the Parish Office. We are also happy to accept cash donations! As always, thank you for your kind donations.

Gently Used Backpacks Needed

Resurrection House serves our homeless brothers and sisters in downtown Sarasota. They are currently in need of backpacks to distribute to the men and women they serve. Please consider donating backpacks no longer needed by you or your teen/s. We ask that you not bring in any backpacks meant for young children. You may place the backpacks in the food donation box in the narthex.

as your gift to every human being.

Make our vision clearand our will strong

that only in human solidaritywill we find liberty,

and justice only in the honorthat belongs to every life on earth.

Turn our hearts toward the family of nations:to understand the ways of others,

to offer true friendship, and to find safety

only in the common good of all.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

If you would like to make a contribution to the CFA you can find envelopes in the pews or you can note CFA on your check. Many parishioners have already moved to establishing recurring monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual donations to St. Thomas More rather than write a check every week. And it helps us for annual budgeting purposes.

It’s easier than you might think to set up, and, if you like, we can set it up for you at the Parish Office! Feel free to give us a call to schedule a time to come in.

The “globalization of indifference’ is creating a scenario in which migrants, refugees, displaced persons and victims of trafficking have become emblems of exclusion … often looked down upon and considered the source of all society’s ills. That attitude is an alarm bell warning of the moral decline we will face if we continue to give ground to the throw-away culture. In fact, if it continues, anyone who does not fall within the accepted norms of physical, mental and social well-being is at risk of marginalization and exclusion.

For this reason, the presence of migrants and refugees – and of vulnerable people in general – is an invitation to recover some of those essential dimensions of our Christian existence and our humanity that risk being overlooked in a prosperous society. That is why it is not just about migrants. When we show concern for them, we also show concern for ourselves, for everyone; in taking care of them, we all grow; in listening to them, we also give voice to a part of ourselves that we may keep hidden because it is not well regarded nowadays.”

It is not just about migrants . . . it is also about our fears. The signs of meanness we see around us heighten our fear of ‘the other’, the unknown, the marginalized, the foreigner… We see this today in particular, faced with the arrival of migrants and refugees knocking on our door in search of protection, security, and a better future.

It is not just about migrants . . . it is about charity. Through works of charity, we demonstrate our faith. And the highest form of charity is that shown to those unable to reciprocate and perhaps even to thank us in return.

It is not just about migrants . . . it is about our humanity. Compassion motivated the Samaritan – for the Jew, a foreigner – not to pass by. Compassion is a feeling that cannot be explained on a purely rational level.

It is not just about migrants . . . it is a question of seeing that no one is excluded. Today’s world is increasingly becoming more elitist and cruel towards the excluded.

It is not just about migrants . . . it is about putting the last first. Jesus Christ asks us not to yield to the logic of the world, which justifies injustice to others for my own gain or that of my group. “Me first, and then the others!” Instead, the true motto of the Christian is, “The last shall be first!”

It is not just about migrants . . it is about the whole person, about all people. In Jesus’ words, we encounter the very heart of his mission: to see that all receive the gift of life in its fullness, according to the will of the Father.

It is not just about migrants . . . it is about building the city of God and humantiy. In our time, which can also be called the era of migration, many innocent people fall victim to the “great deception” of limitless technological and consumerist development (cf. Laudato Si’, 34). As a result, they undertake a journey towards a “paradise” that inevitably betrays their expectations.

The Diocese of Venice Catholic Charities has secured a $100,000 match grant to assist migrant/ human trafficking victims. It is designed to help people in dire need and for us to show mercy to God’s people. If they are able to match the $100,000, Catholic Charities will receive another $100,000 for a total of $300,000. Please consider lending your support to this much-needed outreach to some of the most vulnerable among us. Checks written out to Catholic Charities with “migrant/ human trafficking victims” in the memo line, can be placed in the collection basket or brought to the Parish Office.

Centering Prayer: Thursdays 10:30 am - Garden Room Rosary: Weekdays 7:30 am - Church Spirit of Love Prayer Group: 2nd Monday 2:00 pm - Chapel

Our prayer book of the sick is located in the chapel. You may write your intentions in it, and be assured that

names entered are prayed for daily.

The chapel is open daily 8:00 am (Mass) - 3:30 pm. You may stop by at any time daily for private prayer. While the chapel is open, the main entrance to Mary’s Garden is not. Access is available through the doors by the Anchor Way entrance to the parking lot.

Prayer

As we prepare for this year’s storm season, let us not forget those suffering around the world from natural disasters. We pray for those currently suffering from flooding in Maryland and China. We continue to pray for those in Puerto Rico still suffering from Hurricane Maria. We hold in our hearts all who suffer in countries devastated by weather and other natural circumstances. In these events we are reminded of the fragility of life

A Prayer for Safety in Hurricane SeasonWe humbly bring our prayers to God, the Lord of the wind and the rains, the Lord of good season and bad, the Lord of blessing and hope, that God might bless us and protect us in our ways. We pray:

Lord God of all seasons, you bless us throughout the year.

You are the rain that refreshes the earth. You are the light that shines upon all things.

You are the miracle of birth and growth. You are the author of time and its seasons. You set it all in motion for the benefit of all.

You are the Creator who blesses. You are the Guardian of all that you have created.

As we enter upon this season of vigilance, we ask that you watch over us. Keep us alert and watchful in our days.

Protect us from all harm.Keep us from devastation.

Deepen our faith, that our fears disappear in our trust in You.Bless those public agencies responsible for storm tracking, watches and preparedness.

Bless their plans, their practices, their skills, their dedication. And at the time of extreme watchfulness, increase their skills, their concentration,

and our willingness to follow their advice and commands. The eyes of all look to you, O Lord.

You open your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Lord of the universe and the four winds, hear our prayers. In you alone is our salvation. In you alone do we find our lives safe. As once you were the guide and protection of your people in Israel in pillars of wind and fire, so also guide and protect us, your people of today, and keep us in safety and peace all our days; through our Lord Jesus Christ, who with you and the Holy Spirit, belong all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.

Our high school youth made us proud at the Catholic Heart Work Camp in Bluffton, SC. Along with their fearless adult leaders, they were the love of Christ serving those in need. Thank you to the adult volunteers for their willingness to spend a week working in the heat of South Carolina to be models of Christian faith and service to our parish teens. And a big high five to our Youth Minister, Alicia Bartol-Thomas, who continues to lead our youth with great wisdom, energy and love! Keep your eyes open for more about the middle and high school youth mission trip adventures in future bulletins!

Flowers at the Altar and the Sanctuary CandleCall the Parish Office, 941-923-1691, to reserve your dates

to remember, honor, and/or celebrate a loved one.

In today’s Gospel we see that Jesus, on his way to Jerusalem, sent a messenger on ahead of Him.” To be the messengers of God, we must know what it is that God wants to say and do through us, as he sends us out to bring his love to others.

In the month of June, you were the “messenger of God” in bringing hope to the poor. Your gifts enabled the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to assist families by providing food and assistance with utility and rent bills. We thank you for your generosity.

There are green donation envelopes at each pew as well as at the silver STVP poor box in the Narthex.
