It is a time of despair, perplexity and contradiction. The very people who applaud Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem that morning, shouting out “Hosanna” and words of adoration will, within a week, be crying, “Crucify Him.” They will go from acclaiming Him as the new King of Israel to urging His life be traded in favor of a convicted criminal; they will first praise Him and then mock Him. Even friends entering Jerusalem at His side will desert Jesus. All this discord will take place during one week beginning on what we call Palm Sunday. Previously, Our Lord had deliberately avoided popular acclaim, even fled, but this, upon entering Jerusalem, He accepts. Yet His actions are different than the people expected. He doesn’t present himself as a rival to Caesar; He is not the political messiah or the warrior king the multitude had clam-ored for. Instead of entering Jerusalem on a war horse or chariot, he enters on a donkey, a sign of peace; and not just any donkey, but one on which no one had ever sat, the prerogative of a king. ~D.D. Dear Friends, A solemn silence envelopes us as we enter into Holy Week. The usual liturgical preparations have ceased and the churches are quiet. The choir lofts are empty, the sanctuaries are bare, and the lights are out in the sacristies. This year we will not gather to wave our palms or venerate the cross. We will not light our vigil candles or sing the Gloria on Easter Sunday. This year we will be silent. In 2017 Cardinal Robert Sarah wrote a prophetic book called the Power of Silence where he reminds us that God’s first language is silence. God waits for our silence to reveal Himself. Brothers and sisters, Jesus is inviting you to use this time of silence to enter into Holy Week as never before. Turn off the TV, put down your screens, and accompany Jesus day by day in His passion, death, and resurrection. This year, don’t just be a member of the crowd waving your palms or observing from afar, get close up close to Jesus. I encourage you to gather as a family to pray the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary. Pray the stations of the cross and read the daily liturgical readings. Be in the scene. Ask Jesus what’s on His heart. Ask the Blessed Mother if you can walk with her to Calvary. Consider what a privilege it is that Jesus invites you to accompany Him in His suffering. In His weakest and most vulnerable moments, Jesus doesn’t hide from you. He invites you in as a cherished friend; as someone He cannot die without seeing. Let’s reverence this sacred time together. Let’s stay with Jesus to the end. Although these days are silent and painful, they are rich in revelation. Jesus is waiting to reveal Himself to you in new and profound ways. Let’s quiet our hearts and receive.

Prayer During an Epidemic Lord Jesus,

Hear our pleas, our good shepherd and divine physician. We implore your mercy

in the wake of an outbreak of serious illness and disease.

Guide our efforts to prevent contagion and make preparations to care for those

most vulnerable. Assist all professionals and volunteers

who work to eradicate the epidemic now spreading. May our actions be marked by

your steadfast love and selfless service and never by panic or fear.

Bestow your comfort and healing to the sick, sustain and strengthen them by your

grace. May they know your closeness as they carry the cross of illness.

And may all you have called from this life come to worship you eternally with all the saints as you grant consolation and

peace to their mourners. Amen. Holy Mary, Health of the Sick, pray for us. St. Joseph, Hope of the Sick, pray for us.

“If we are many parts, we are all one body” ~Romans 12:4-5

Around the world, dioceses are canceling public Masses to prevent the spread of coronavirus, but many churches are now livestreaming their Masses, so you can still pray, hear the Mass read-ings and make a spiritual communion. Many parishes are taking this approach, including St. Mary’s in New Haven, Conn., where the Knights of Columbus was founded. Now, as always, a Mass is said every day at St. Mary’s for deceased Knights of Columbus, their wives and Columbian Squires. Mass will be streamed live daily at 12 noon on the parish’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/stmarysCT/. ~Knights of Columbus Visit the Knights of Columbus site for a list of daily Masses that you can just click on the link to watch:

kofc.org/en/news-room/artic les/watch-mass-online.html Some of these Masses include the Papal Mass, Bishop Robert Barron,EWTN, Catholic TV, Saint John Paul ll National Shrine.

From Fr. Gregory: I ask that you take time to check in—by phone, email or social media—with family members, friends and neighbors, particularly those who are most vulnerable, to ensure they are well and have what they need. Please also continue to support your parish Financially as you are able during this time. Parishes rely on your generosity to support their staff and ministries now more than ever. Finally, please join me in praying for all those affected by this pandemic—those who are ill, their caregivers, health care work-ers, and public officials. We will get through this by patiently making sacrifices, loving our neighbor, and staying close to Christ in prayer. May this time without the celebration of the Eucharist instill in us an even greater appreciation for those times when we will again be gathered, nourished and sent.

Lifetouch has delayed our photo shoot until August. It will be a chance for us to update our Parish Directory with all our newly married and baptized as well as new members. If your family has changed or if you just want to update your photo, this will be the opportunity.
