Lyrics for 8:30am Anthem…

“Love Enough To Give” A mother lined a basket

to keep her baby dry, Then rocked him on a river, lest he awake and cry. She let a princess name him, her son that he might live. God’s people had a leader. She had such hope to give.

A mother sewed a jacket, lined in the softest wool, Then dressed her little boy-child, her cup of blessing full. She brought him to the temple where he would serve and live. God’s people had a prophet. She had such faith to give.

A mother laid her baby in a manger lined with straw; Then in the shepherd’s story his call from God foresaw. She nurtured and taught him the way that he must live. God’s people had a Savior. She had such love to give.

Like Jochebed and Hannah, and Mary too, we know The hardest part of loving is learning to let go, So when we send our children out in the world to live, Grant us such hope and faith, God, and love enough to give.

Paul Manz (May 10, 1919-October 28, 2009) was an American composer of organ and choral music. His most famous organ works are his volumes of chorale preludes. He concertized all over the world and is recognized by the American Guild of Organists as one of the “101 Most Notable Organists of the 20th Century”. As a performer, Manz was most famous for his celebrated Hymn Festivals. Instead of playing traditional organ recitals, he would lead a “festival” of hymns from the organ, in which he introduced each hymn with one of his creative organ improvisations based on the hymn tune and the congregation would follow in song. Manz would traditionally end each festival with “O God Our Help in Ages Past” as we are doing today.

LITANY CELEBRATING THE WOMEN IN OUR LIVES (Book of Blessings, U.S.A., 20th Cent., alt.)

Giving thanks to God for the women in our lives.

(At the direction of our liturgist please respond: We pray to the Lord …)

Silent prayer may follow each petition.

For our mothers, who have given us life and love, that we may show them reverence and love,

we pray to the Lord . . .

For mothers who have lost a child through death, that their faith may give them hope, and their family and friends support and console them, we pray to the Lord . . .

For women, though without children of their own, who like mothers have nurtured and cared for us,

we pray to the Lord . . .

For mothers, who have been unable to be a source of strength, who have not responded to their children and have not sustained their families,

we pray to the Lord . . .

Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you watch over your Church.

Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers.

Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.

Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect.

Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

7pm Community Conversation—Jubilee Hall Topic—Opioid/Addiction Crisis, What Can We do? Michelle McVay, MDH, with Heather Asbury, Cert. Peer Support Specialist

From the Trustees: The trustees happily announce that a church dream is coming true! After more than a year of careful, prayerful thought and planning, JUBILEE HALL WILL SOON BE AIR CONDITIONED. Work has begun on a new ductless HVAC system that will cover Jubilee Hall and the New Life in Christ wing above it as well as the preschool wing and both floors above it. Added to last year’s new heat pump that services the library wing and the Martha Manahan area and to the already-functioning HVAC system in the sanctuary, this new system makes the entire building climate controlled for year-round comfort. The new system offers efficiency, as individual room temperatures can be controlled—even remotely! This is no small project, and we have generous benefactors to thank. Most of the cost is covered by bequeathed gifts; capital improvement funds cover the remainder. None of your pledged giving is affected. The Trustees are very excited about this news and hope you are, too! The Church Council has supported this project from the very start. Our sincere thanks go to them. For all of us who have been in uncomfortable heat or cold when at the church, this is exciting and long-awaited news for WUMC!!
