Who We Are

Christian Surfers is open to everyone; men, women, youth, boys, girls and families who desire to share God’s love through their actions to-wards surfers. We are an outreach where we care for surfers at the beach, at surf contests and at special events. Although we do surf and have surfers involved you do not need to be a surfer to serve God. Please take a moment to pray for our group and see if the Lord draws you, or any of your friends or family, into our mission field. If you have any questions feel free to approach any of the CS guys or gals at the events or e-mail us.

Monthly Events

We meet each month, either in front of First Peak, at Sebastian Inlet State Park or at contest sites. We arrive at different times according to the tide or contest start time, we set up our tent and coolers and then we surf, pass out wax, sunscreen, magazines… and just hang out. We gather for a devotion and discuss upcoming events and opportunities to serve. Then we clean up the beach after a long and busy day. Check out the Upcoming Events section, on our website, to see what time and where we meet next. Connect with us on Facebook (Christian Surfers Sebastian Inlet) to stay on top of updates.

Special Events

We try and pack up the vans and see our local sites. The wave pool in Orlando is obviously a favorite as well as our Summer Surf Jam where we jam as many kids into two vans and travel up coast and camp our way back home while surfing as many breaks a possible. We also serve at the Surf Expo two times a year providing daily coffee and donuts as well as man power on the last day of the show to help the industry pack up after a long week.

We serve at National and Regional Contests:

ASF Contests, NSSA Southeast Contests, NSSA East Coast Champion-ships, Quiksilver King of the Peak, Gnarly Charley Surf Series, Walking on Water Tour, Rip Curl Grom Search…

My family has always surfed therefore that’s how I initially began. I migrated away from gymnastics at the age of 8 and began surfing and com-

peting in contest. I believe there was a purpose from the start, I loved being in the water. Whether it was free surfing, swim-ming competitively, I felt like a mermaid. Then when I began to compete in contest I loved the feeling and rush I got, whether that may have been from winning a heat for the first time or just expressing what I started to love, it was the start of some-thing new. Due to when my birthday falls in the month of December it forced me to compete up a division, therefore it was always a challenge, and I believe it is what has pushed me to become a better competitor and challenge me to become the best surfer I can be; and I’m still working consistently at it.

I have to give a lot of props to my coach John Holeman, aerial pioneer; I wouldn’t be where I am today with out him. I love the opportunities that I have been given to travel and compete in this amazing sport, venturing to China, El Salvador, Peru, I take a little piece of their culture with me, to reminisce back on the amazing times that I have had, the competitions I competed in

and the people I met. Ulti-mately though I truly believe God has orchestrated it all. Whether it’s the people I met, or got to share God’s love too. He has a plan and purpose for it all.

That’s what I have set out to do, make God my priority in life, in surfing, ext.. and eve-rything will fall into it’s proper place. So I go forth as

an ambassador of Christ, and let me tell you it’s not easy, but it is something that I have chosen, and it is freely given to anyone who is willing to believe and receive.

Name: Jonathan Wallhauser Age: 12 Hometown: Satellite Beach, FL Favorite (local) surf spot: Sebastian Inlet What kind / size board are your currently riding: 4' 11” Quiet Flight Vandal What would you create to make surfing more enjoyable: A Jet Ski so that I could do “tow ins” at Monster Hole and RCs on really big days. Favorite surf mobile: I have a cheap phone since I spent all my money on s u r f boards. Full suite or baggies: Baggies, I love the warm water. Wave pool or Ocean Avenue: Ocean Ave, great sandbar there. What do you do when it is flat: Skimboard, Skateboard, Skurf and play Xbox. Do you have any pets: No, every once in a while I catch some geckos for pets, but I always let them go after a week or so. Do you want to be in Surf Magazines or Surf Videos: Yes, that would be amazing. We make a lot of videos on our YouTube Channel, SurfAllDayA1A. It is fun making them and it really helps me to train by making corrections to things I see in videos that I can improve. The best thing would be to go on a surf trip to Indonesia and charter a boat to some reef breaks in the middle of nowhere and get that on video. What three qualities do think every surfer should have: Respect, Bravery, and Friendliness. I think it is most important to be nice to everyone you meet and be as happy for others success as you are for your own. What surfers do you look up to: My dad, Sam Duggan, and CJ Hobgood. Who has influenced your life the most: My dad, he surfs with me everyday and we spend a lot of time together. We always talk and I like that. Last words, for your fans: If you set goals, work hard and try to help others, you will be a success.

Gnarly Charley Surf Series

Charley has taken on a huge challenge to teach GROMS at a very young age how to surf competitions. The GROM divisions include the following: Boys- supergrom (push in),10 yrs. and under, 11-14 yrs. and open longboard. Girls- Supergrom (push in), 10 yrs-under, 11-14 yrs and open long-board. The girls will have the option to surf with the boys. "I want to help GROMS out in contests so that when they surf E.S.A, Eastern Surfing Association, N.S.S.A., National Scholastic Surfing Association, or any other contest, they will have the confidence to do well. A lot of GROMS surf in their first contest and get blown out because of this situation. The surf series gives GROMS a chance to build their self esteem, increase confi-dence, gain respect, improve athletic abil-ity, and most importantly make new friends".

Summer Surf Jam

This past August we packed 11 kids, some older than others, into two vans, packed a trailer full of tents, food and boards and headed north for some surf and fun. We started off in Jacksonville surfing The Polls and meeting with Mike Whisnant, one of North Florida’s top shapers. Mike took the time to speak with us about surfboard trends and design. From there we were off to St. Augustine where we spent the night and surfed for 2 days. Then south to Ponce Inlet where we ran into our first real surf, cheered on the USA Olympic Water Polo team and Chauncey took us all to school with his Putt Putt skills. Who knew? Our final stop was New Smyrna Beach where we surfed the inlet and have to give a big thank you to Bill and Kate who run the New Smyrna Beach Christian Surfers chapter aka the NSB CS Boarding House, Thank You. After 5 days we returned home all safe and sound with a few thinking a little more about, “where you at”.

Paddle For Daisy On September 1st we gathered at Ocean Avenue to pray and show support for Daisy Love Merrick. Daisy is the granddaughter of Al Merrick and has been suffering from Cancer. At 8 years old she has had 6 surgeries, 22 rounds of chemotherapy and 2 courses of radia-tion. Daisy is facing cancer for the 3rd time and is in a battle for her life. She is currently going through another round of chemo and a stem cell transplant in both America and Israel. The estimated costs not covered by insurance will total close to $500,000. Chris-tian Surfers was able to raise over $100,000 for Daisy that day.

Summer SUP Throwdown 2012

This year Hans at Riding His Waters will be running three Paddle Surfing contests to support Ride Nature which is a non-profit fo-cused on bringing action sports and the Gospel to children living in poverty. Mark and Shannon Koch at Ride Nature are driven to let surfing/skateboarding/skim boarding & now SUP be a vessel to show children all over Central America a way to enjoy the gift of life they have been given as well as hear about the real gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. You can read more about Ride Nature at www.ridenature.com and see how you can get involved with them through prayer, financial support or joining in on travels.

We are running 3 contests this year. The first was held in overhead Hurricane Isaac surf at Indialantic Boardwalk in September, the 2nd was run in waist to chest high surf and put a different spin on what these guys and gals can do. Giorgio and Izzi Gomez took down 1st place in their divisions and ripped the waves apart. The last contest of the year will be held in Juno on October 27th. Come down to watch some of the best paddle surfing on the east coast.

Good Vs. God Our world and the surfing world have become enthralled with doing good. This is not necessarily a bad thing. But, what I am observing as the head of a missions organization is that many Christians are supporting “Good efforts” but not “Gospel efforts”. There are so many needs in our world today and there are many organizations addressing needs from Oprah to Kony 2012. What we must not forget is that as Christians we are managing God’s money, He prioritizes the Gospel and we are called to proclaim it. The Good News of Jesus is the root of all solutions for our world. Is that reflected in how you’re giving His money away? Is your giving helping to pro-claim this Good News to the world? Is proclaiming the Gospel your top priority? What God says I will never stop doing good to you,...Jeremiah 32 : 40 ...for you are my treasured possession,... Exodus 19 : 5.... I

desire to establish you with all my heart and all my soul...Jeremiah 32: 41 ...and I want to show you great and

marvelous things...Jeremiah 33:3...if you seek me with all your heart, you will find me...Deuteronomy 4 : 29...

Delight in me and I will give you the desires of your heart...Psalm 37: 4… for it is I who gave you those desires….

Philippians 2: 13 I am able to do more for you than you could possibly imagine... Ephesians 3: 20 ….. for I am you

greatest encourager….2 Thessalonians 2 : 16- 17…. I am also the father who comforts you in all your troubles...2

Corinthians 1: 3-4…. When you are brokenhearted, I am close to you. Psalm 34: 18… As a shepherd carries a

lamb, I have carried you close to my heart…… Isaiah 40: 11 one day I will wipe away every tear from your eyes.

Revelation 21 : 3 – 4... And I’ll take away all the pain you have suffered on this earth...Revelation 21: 3-4…. I am

your father, and I love you even as l love my son, Jesus,...John 17: 23...for in Jesus, my love for you is re-

vealed...John 17 : 26... He is the exact repetition of my being...Hebrews 1: 3… He came to demonstrate that I am

for you, not against you...Romans 8: 31... And to tell you that, I am not counting your sins...2 Corinthians 5 : 18-

19... Jesus died so that you and I could be reconciled… 2 Corinthians 5 : 18-19…. His death was the ultimate expression of my love

for you… 1 John 4 : 10 … I give up everything I loved that I might gain your love… Romans 8 : 31-32. If you receive the gift of my

son Jesus, you receive me… 1 John 2 : 23 ...and nothing will ever separate you from my love again… Romans 8 : 38 – 39…. Come

home and I’ll throw the biggest a party heaven has ever seen... Luke 15 : 7… I have always been father, and will always be father…

Ephesians 3 : 14-15 My question is.... will you be my Child? ...John 1 : 12 – 13…. I am waiting for you…. Luke 15 : 11-32.

Where You At?

Leftovers As a surfer, I’ve never been all that concerned with what people think. I’ve walked into conferences with wet hair and sandy feet. I’ve even gone to church barefoot, but I can’t imagine inviting special friends over for dinner and then throwing a few leftovers into the microwave to serve up to them. If I were to do that, it would speak volumes about how I really feel about them.

Giving God the leftovers of our lives speaks volumes about His true worth to us. When God asked Abraham to give Isaac back to Him as an act of worship, Genesis 22:1 calls it a test. {Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" and he said, "Here I am."} A test to see if there was anything in his life that he treasured more than God.

It’s no different for us. There are times when God requires something really important to get His work done. He’ll ask us to give up our natural instincts of seeking revenge so that we can communicate His forgiving love by forgiving our enemies. He may call us to sacrifice portions of our time or money or comforts to advance His cause. The way we respond to what He requires says volumes about how we really feel about Him.

What will you serve up this month? This week? Today? Right now? Anyone can offer the leftovers. Only those who love God more than anything else will serve up the very best for Him.

God deserves far more than leftovers; He deserves the very best, the first, the last and everything in between. We won’t survive long on very little time spent in the Word. It’s only with God’s strength and by His grace that we are what and who we are.

Why Blank?

We are all like a raw blank; scuffed up, yellowed, ugly. Without God we will stay

that way but with God, He will take layer after layer off of this raw blank so that

we start to take form. As we take form it may hurt, it may be painful and sometimes

we may not know exactly what our final outcome will look like, but He is the mas-

ter shaper and we have to trust in his plan. You may want to be a short board and

he may be shaping you into a fish. Why a fish? He has a plan to use you when a

wider outline, slightly thicker rail and fuller tail is needed. How well will you work,

for His glory, if your outline is for Pipe and you are surfing Ocean Ave.? We will

never be glassed, in this shaping bay, the Master Shaper is never finished with us.
