This BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management (MMC Snap-in) software is used to administer the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

createdb.exe This program creates the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management (MMC Snap-in) database. The database can also be created during the installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software.

CalHelper.exe This program isolates calendar and mail processing by restricting to external CDO Helper applications to all BlackBerry Enterprise Server calendar code that uses CDO.dll calls. Log messages are routed from CalHelper applications and written to the appropriate BlackBerry Enterprise Server log file.

Utilities Description

BESProfile.exe This GUI program enables you to edit the MAPI profile that is used by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

DBConsistency.exe This utility maintains the Mobile Data Service’s database consistency. If you set the BlackBerry Enterprise Server as a push server, then DBConsistency runs automatically (every 24 hours by default) but you must reboot the server or manually start the BlackBerry Database Consistency service for the first time. If you do not set the BlackBerry Enterprise Server as a push server, then you have to run BlackBerry Database Consistency manually every time.

BBUserAdminClient.exe This program enables administrators to add, delete, or list users on a specified BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Chapter 1: Overview


BlackBerry Enterprise Server SoftwareBlackBerry® is a mobile email solution on a wireless network. The BlackBerry solution consists of the handheld, cradle/charger or USB cable, and desktop software.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server centralizes email redirection for handheld users in an organization. The server software performs the following functions for each user:

� monitors the user�s mailbox for new mail

� applies filters (defined by the user or the administrator) to new messages to determine if and how the BlackBerry Server Servername service relays the message to the user�s handheld

� compresses and encrypts new messages and delivers them to the handheld over the Internet

� receives, over the Internet, messages that are composed on the handheld, and then decrypts and decompresses the messages and places them in the user�s Outbox for the corporate Microsoft Exchange Server to deliver

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server runs as a Windows NT® or Windows® 2000 service that can monitor many users at once over a single administrative connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server maintains a direct TCP/IP connection (Server Routing Protocol or SRP) to the wireless network. This mode of connection requires that you configure your corporate firewall to enable the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to connect through port 3101. This is not a �hole� in the firewall; only an outbound connection is required.

The following illustration shows an example of events that occur when an external email message is sent to a handheld user on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Administration softwareBlackBerry Enterprise Server can be administered by BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, whether you are installing in a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 environment, a Microsoft Exchange 2000 environment, or a �mixed mode� environment (where a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server is added to an existing Microsoft Exchange 5.5 environment).

BlackBerry Enterprise Server ManagementTo administer BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s), you must install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software. BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management functions as a snap-in to the Microsoft Management Console.

Chapter 1: Overview


From the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console, you can administer users at the server level and mailbox level. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software includes the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console (the interface that enables administration of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s) and its users). The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software requires a Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE), SQL 7.0, or SQL 2000 database to store data relevant to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s) and administration mailboxes. MSDE is provided with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software package to be installed if you do not already have an MSDE or SQL database engine installed.

BlackBerry User Administration softwareThe BlackBerry User Administration service client is a command prompt administration utility that enables you to remotely add, delete, or list users for a specific BlackBerry Enterprise Server. BlackBerry User Administration service client users are not required to have administration permission on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Before you can use the BlackBerry User Administration client, you must install the BlackBerry User Administration service on a server.

Handheld compatibilityHandhelds running with BlackBerry Desktop Software version 2.0 or later are compatible with BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.5 or later. However, many features are supported only with specific versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, desktop software, and handheld software. Handheld software version depends on whether the handheld is C++-enabled or Java�-enabled.

� C++-enabled handhelds are BlackBerry handhelds for DataTAC® and Mobitex networks (this includes but might not be limited to RIM 850 Wireless Handheld�, RIM 857 Wireless Handheld�, RIM 950 Wireless Handheld�, and RIM 957 Wireless Handheld�)

� Java-enabled handhelds are BlackBerry handhelds for CDMA2000 1X, GSM�/GPRS, or Nextel® networks (this includes but might not be limited to BlackBerry 5800 Series, BlackBerry 6200 Series, BlackBerry 6500 Series, and BlackBerry 6700 Series of wireless handhelds)

Wireless calendar synchronization support

A handheld with software version 2.0 does not support the wireless calendar synchronization feature. To support the wireless calendar synchronization feature, you must use (at least) the following software versions in conjunction:

� BlackBerry Desktop Software version 2.1

Note: BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management can be used with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.0 or later, although some options might not be available with earlier server versions (for example, wireless IT policy synchronization).

Handheld compatibility


� version 2.1 or later of the handheld software

� BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1 or later

Wireless synchronization of IT policy settings and IT admin commands support

The wireless synchronization of IT policy settings and IT admin commands is available with version 3.5 or later of the BlackBerry Desktop Software, and with the following handheld software versions:

� version 2.5 or later of the handheld software for C++-enabled handhelds

� version 3.6 or later of the handheld software for Java-enabled handhelds

The Remote Address Lookup feature is available with the following handheld software versions:



Attachment service support

The stand alone-only attachment service feature is supported with the following software versions in conjunction:

� BlackBerry Desktop Software version 2.1 or later

� version 2.1 or later of the handheld software


The integrated attachment service feature for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 Service Pack 1 or later is supported on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server with the following software versions in conjunction:


� version 2.1 or 2.5 of the handheld software for C++-enabled handhelds

� version 3.6 or later of the handheld software Java-enabled handhelds

Wireless email reconciliation support

Wireless email reconciliation support is available only with BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 or later, and is enabled only on the following handheld software versions:



Mobile Data ServiceThe Mobile Data Service manages and alters information so that it can pass between the intranet and the BlackBerry handheld more efficiently.

Direct flow between the handheld application and a network server does not occur; all information must pass through the Mobile Data Service first. As the intermediary agent, the Mobile Data Service can perform two functions:

� Data conversion: As a proxy, Mobile Data Service intercepts information that passes between handheld applications and the content server. Data conversion might be necessary if the content that returns from the server is not formatted appropriately.

� Data routing: As a channel, Mobile Data Service passes information back and forth between the handheld application and the content server. The content that is sent by the application and the content that is sent by the server is not altered before being passed on to its destinations.

After you install the Mobile Data Service, it must be enabled at the server and user level before it can be used on the handheld.

Note: The Mobile Data Service is a medium for data transmission. The customer is responsible for the applications on the handheld and the server that transmit and receive such data, and for the compatibility of applications with the Mobile Data Service. RIM is not responsible for the functionality or compatibility of such applications, nor for the data that passes through the Mobile Data Service.

Mobile Data Service


S/MIMEThe current BlackBerry infrastructure provides secure email transport between your organization�s network and the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld using Triple Data Encryption Standard (DES) encryption technology. This means that email that is delivered to handhelds is as secure as the messages that are delivered to a personal computer on your organization�s network.

Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) offers an additional layer of security between the sender and recipient of an email message. S/MIME technology enables end-to-end authentication and confidentiality, and protects data integrity and privacy from the time the originator of the message sends it over the wireless network to the time it is decoded and read by the message recipient.

S/MIME is enabled at the server level (through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console) and on the handheld. The Mobile Data Service parameters for Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) properties and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) are required for S/MIME digital signing to work. Configure Mobile Data Service parameters through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server�s Mobile Data Service Properties window in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console.

BrowserOn the C++-enabled handhelds, the browser only works with the Mobile Data Service. The Mobile Data Service must be enabled for users to use the browser.

On the Java-enabled handhelds, the browser works with two types of gateways:

� a Wide Area Protocol (WAP) gateway that is operated by the network operator,

� or the Mobile Data Service.

(Refer to "Handheld compatibility" on page 20 for more information about supported networks, handheld versions, and handheld and desktop software versions.)

The Mobile Data Service must be used to access corporate intranets, but it can also be used to access the Internet. Support for WAP or Mobile Data Service depends on provisioning by the network operator.

Warning: Before users can send and receive S/MIME messages, they must install the BlackBerry Desktop Software with S/MIME Support and update their handhelds to support S/MIME services. After S/MIME is enabled, they can send and receive encrypted messages, attach a signature to outgoing messages, and perform wireless certificate searches.

Chapter 1: Overview


The Mobile Data Service uses a protocol called the IP Proxy Protocol (IPPP) to communicate with the handheld. Communication between the handheld and the Mobile Data Service is encrypted in the same way as email.

Wireless email reconciliationWireless email reconciliation means that the user can read, move or delete email messages on either the handheld or the desktop and see these changes wirelessly synchronized between the handheld and the desktop. One-way folder synchronization means that if the user creates, deletes, renames, or moves a folder on the desktop, the change is wirelessly reconciled on the handheld. When a user moves a folder to the Deleted Items folder on the desktop, the messages in the folder are also deleted and the deletes are synchronized on the handheld.

The user is not required to connect the handheld to the computer and synchronize email using the desktop software in order for message filing, message Read/Unread status, or message deletes made on the handheld to be reflected on the desktop, or changes on the desktop to be reflected on the handheld. When a user reads, files or deletes a message on the handheld, it is automatically reflected on the desktop and vice versa.

After installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 or later, wireless email reconciliation support is enabled by default on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and for all users on the server. When wireless email reconciliation support is enabled for a user, and the enabled user upgrades the handheld to either version 2.6 or later of the handheld software for C++-enabled handhelds or version 3.6 of the handheld software for Java-enabled handhelds, on the user�s upgraded handheld the Message List Options screen Wireless Reconcile field is automatically set to On. (Refer to "Handheld compatibility" on page 20 for more information about supported networks, handheld versions, and handheld and desktop software versions.)

Attachment serviceThe attachment service feature requires that you install an attachment connector on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and the attachment service on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or a remote computer. The attachment connector on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server processes attachments converted by the local or remote attachment service for viewing on the BlackBerry handheld. Attachment service and attachment connector settings are configurable through the BlackBerry Attachment Service Configuration tool, installed by default with the attachment service.

Note: After the user upgrades the handheld to a version that supports wireless email reconciliation, changes made to messages on the user’s handheld are reflected on the user’s desktop within a short period of time. If there are pending changes on the user’s handheld that require immediate reconciliation, the user can reconcile the email messages from the handheld manually using the Reconcile Now option.

After you install the attachment service feature, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server can deliver email attachment content to any BlackBerry handheld. The Triple-DES encryption of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server applies to the attachment content.

Using the attachment service feature, handheld users can open attachments with the following file name extensions: .doc, .xls, .ppt, .pdf, .wpd, and .txt. The attachment service converts the file formats to the Universal Content Stream (UCS) format and delivers the files as email attachments to the handheld. The attachment service generates content which is received by the handheld based on requests by the handheld user for a Table of Contents or Full Content.

The following software is required for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to function:

� Windows NT® 4.0 Server (Service Pack 5 or later) or Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 1 or later)

� Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.00 or later if running on Windows NT 4.0

� Microsoft Exchange 5.5 (Service Pack 4 or later) mail server environment (recommended installation on a separate computer than the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service)

� Microsoft Exchange 5.5 AdministratorVerify that Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) default settings include the following:

� LDAP Port number is 389 (the LDAP port number can be changed to prevent a port conflict with Active Directory, but you must change the value in BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management after it is installed);

Note: If you are installing the attachment service on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or a remote computer, you should use a computer with an additional 1-GB RAM available.

Note: If you are installing the Mobile Data Service on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you should use a computer with an additional 256-MB RAM available.

Warning: You should install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service on a computer without Microsoft Exchange 5.5 installed.


System requirements

� in Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator, Enable protocol is selected and Windows NT Challenge/Response authentication is selected at the site level and the server level.

� You should not have Microsoft Outlook installed on the computer on which you are installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If Microsoft Outlook is present on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer, wireless calendar synchronization does not work because Microsoft Outlook�s versions of CDO.dll and MAPI files do not support wireless calendar synchronization. If Microsoft Outlook is opened on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, it attempts to overwrite the MAPI system. Therefore, Microsoft Outlook on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server is an unsupported configuration.

� Before installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, install the CDO.dll hotfix for Microsoft Product Support Services Knowledge Base article Q312273. You can download the hotfix and obtain information on the Knowledge Base article from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=38967&area=search&ordinal=1.

Copy the CDO.dll hotfix to C:/winnt/system32/. The CDO.dll should be version 05.05.2655.79.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management can be installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer or on a remote computer. The following software is required for BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management to function:

� Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5 or later) or Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 1 or later) or Windows XP

� A database engine (MSDE, SQL 7.0, or SQL 2000) must be installed before, during, or after BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation and a database must be created on the database server, before you can use BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. MSDE is provided on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software CD.

Install only ONE of the following tools (to get MAPI on the computer):

� Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator

Note: If you are using Microsoft Exchange 5.5 in a Windows 2000 environment, you might need to create or modify an existing Exchange55 key in the registry before you can see your routing groups in BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. Refer to "No routing groups found in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console" on page 209 for more information.

Note: Your corporate firewall must enable the Domain Name System (DNS) to resolve Internet addresses.

Warning: You must use only one database per organization. Refer to "What is the recommended database configuration for BlackBerry Enterprise Server?" on page 221 for more information.



� Microsoft Exchange 2000 System Manager

� Microsoft Outlook 2000 (Corporate or Workgroup installation)

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on a Windows NT 4.0 Server

The following software is required for BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management to function on a Windows NT 4.0 Server. These tools are built into Windows 2000 Server. You only need to install them if you are running Windows NT 4.0 Server:

� Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) 2.5: You can download this software fromhttp://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/other/ADSI25/default.asp

� Microsoft Management Console 1.2: You can download this software from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=39918&area=search&ordinal=3

After you install Microsoft Management Console 1.2, you should complete an initial startup of the installed software (type MMC at the command prompt) before you continue.

BlackBerry User Administration

The following software is required for BlackBerry User Administration to function:

� BlackBerry User Administration has the same system requirements, but it requires different permissions from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

� BlackBerry Enterprise Server and Microsoft Exchange are not required on the same computer as BlackBerry User Administration.

Mobile Data Service

The following software is required for Mobile Data Service 1.1 to function:

� Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) 2.6 or later on the Mobile Data Service computer. ODBC is installed with SQL Server (7.0 or 2000) or MSDE. If you are not installing a database tool (which is required for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database), download Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 or later from http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm

Warning: Install Microsoft Outlook 2000 (Corporate or Workgroup) only if you will install BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on an administration only computer, separate from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Microsoft Outlook is not supported on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Warning: Universal Serial Bus (USB) drivers are not supported in a Windows NT 4.0 Server environment.

Warning: To install BlackBerry User Administration, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management must be installed on the same computer.


Firewall configuration

� Mobile Data Service must be able to send HTTP requests through TCP/IP port 3101 so that browsers on Mobile Data Service-enabled handhelds function properly.

� Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4: This software is provided on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server CD in drive:\tools\. Launch j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586-i.exe and complete the installation.This version of JRE has Java Secure Socket Extension (JSSE) embedded

Remote attachment service

The following software is required for the attachment service on a remote computer to function:

� Windows NT® 4.0 Server (Service Pack 5 or later) or Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 1 or later)

Firewall configurationThe BlackBerry Enterprise Server initiates outbound, bidirectional connections to the wireless network. To support BlackBerry in an environment that has a firewall in place, you must configure the firewall to enable the computers running the BlackBerry Enterprise Server within the company to initiate TCP/IP connections to an outside server that is listening on port 3101. If you use a proxying firewall, the proxy must be transparent.

Verify that your firewall is configured to accommodate these types of outbound-initiated connections bidirectionally.

Warning: If your network uses a proxy auto-configuration (PAC) file, you must have Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 installed.

Note: A transparent proxy does NOT modify requests or responses through the proxy during proxy authentication and identification, whereas a non-transparent proxy (where the client specifies the host name and port number of the proxy) IS used to modify requests or responses through the proxy. If you have a non-transparent proxy, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server can be configured to access an internal proxy address which is then translated externally to the SRP Host on port 3101.

Note: Your corporate firewall must be able to resolve Internet addresses using the Domain Name System (DNS).



License keysLicense keys enable the use of client licenses across your organization. For example, if you purchase a license key for 20 users, you can have 20 users across your organization on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service(s) that you install with the license key. If you have multiple BlackBerry Enterprise Server services installed, the user limit applies to the total number of users on all of those BlackBerry Enterprise Server services.

To add more users after installation, you must purchase a new license key for the number of extra client licenses that you need and use BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management to enter the new license key, which adds that number to the total number of client licenses that are permitted across your organization.

Warning: If you used a temporary evaluation license key previously, you cannot reuse the temporary license key after you purchase a permanent license key. If you use a temporary license key, a warning dialog box appears when you open BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management to notify you of the number of days remaining until the key expires.

Note: The license key value listed in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\LicenseKey) is the original, permanent license key entered during installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software. The value does not update after a new license key is added in BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management to upgrade the number of client licenses.

Preinstallation procedures

Defining a service account and mailbox in Microsoft Exchange 5.5You must define a user service account and mailbox to be used by each of the following BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software components that you install:

� BlackBerry Enterprise Server,

� BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management,

� and BlackBerry User Administration.

To create a service account and mailbox, complete the following procedure using a Windows NT account with a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 service account and Windows NT administrative privileges:

1. Log in to the computer on which you intend to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, on the domain as a domain administrator.

2. From the Start menu, select Programs > Administrative Tools (Common) > User Manager for Domains.

3. From the User menu, select New User. Enter a new domain user name (for example, BESAdmin) and a password. The new user acts as your BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account.

To create a Microsoft Exchange mailbox for the service account:

1. On a computer with Microsoft Exchange Administrator installed, log in with a Windows NT user account that has Microsoft Exchange permissions to create a mailbox.

2. From the Microsoft Exchange Administration window, select File > New Mailbox. A new Properties window appears.

3. On the General tab, type the appropriate information into each field.

4. Click Primary Windows NT Account. The Primary Windows NT Account window appears.

5. Verify that Select an existing Windows NT account is selected. Click OK. The Add User or Group window appears.

6. Select the appropriate Exchange Site Services account that you created above (for example, BESAdmin). Click Add.

Note: You do not need to install all the tools on the same computer. However, the same service account can be used by two or more of the above components if they are installed on the same computer. The same mailbox should be used by all components.



7. Click OK. The mailbox Properties window appears. The Windows NT account that you just selected should appear in this window.

8. Click OK. The mailbox Properties window closes. Exit Microsoft Exchange Administrator.

9. To initialize the mailbox, send a test message to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account mailbox (for example, BESAdmin).

Setting permissions on service accountsIn this section, service account permissions are grouped according to the software component, as follows:

� BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account

� BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service account

� BlackBerry User Administration service account

Each component does not require a separate service account; the same service account can be used for one or more of these software components.

Your BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account requires the following Windows NT permissions:

� Log on locally with local permissions: This permission is optional, but useful for troubleshooting. You can remove it after installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software. This permission should be set by default.

� Log on as a service: This permission should be set automatically when you install BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Verify that it is set.

Your BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account requires the following Microsoft Exchange site permissions:

� Service Account Admin: This permission should be set on the Site container and Configuration container.

� Local administrator: This permission should be set on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service computer.

Your BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service account requires the following Microsoft Exchange site permissions:

Assigning Windows NT permissions on a service account 1. Using an account with administrative Windows NT and Microsoft Exchange permissions, log

in.


3. From the User menu, select Domain. The Select Domain dialog box appears.

4. In the Domain field, type the computer name on which the software will be installed. Click OK. The User Manager window appears.

5. From the Policies menu, select User Rights. The User Rights Policy dialog box appears.

6. Select Show Advanced User Rights.

7. Verify that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account has the following Windows NT rights:

� Log on locally with local permissions

� Log on as a service

Note: The service account used by Mobile Data Service to access the database (the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service account), requires read/write access on the database.



Assigning local administrator permissions to service accounts

Assigning permissions consists of adding the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account to the Administrator group, as follows:

1. Using an account with administrative privileges on the local computer, log in to the server that you will be using as your BlackBerry Enterprise Server (or BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management computer or BlackBerry User Administration computer, if you are assigning permissions to the service accounts for these tools).


3. From the User menu, select Select Domain. The Select Domain dialog box appears.

4. In the Domain field, type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server's computer name. Click OK. The User Manager window appears.

5. In the Groups pane, double-click the Administrators group. The Local Group Properties dialog box appears.

6. Click Add. The Add Users and Groups dialog box appears.

7. From the Names list, select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account. Click Add. The name appears in the Add Names pane.

8. Click OK. The name appears in the Members list as confirmation that it was added to the Administrators group.

9. Click OK. The main User Manager window appears.

Assigning permissions to service accounts within the Microsoft Exchange site1. Open Microsoft Exchange Administrator.

2. Select the Site container for the service account to which you want to assign permissions.

3. From the File menu, select Properties. The Configuration Properties dialog box appears.

Warning: You must also assign local administrator permissions on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service computer to the service account used to run BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. Without local administrator permissions on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer, you will be unable to access all of the BlackBerry Server Property pages.


Creating a MAPI profile

4. On the Permissions tab, assign Service Account Admin permissions to the Site container for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account.

5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for the Configuration container.

Creating a MAPI profileYou must create a MAPI profile to be used by each of the service accounts that you created, which might include a BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account, a BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service account, and a BlackBerry User Administration service account. (The same service account can be used for all of these tools.)

You can create separate MAPI profiles for each tool, or you can use one MAPI profile for all tools. The MAPI profile(s) can point to the same BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration mailbox.

To create the MAPI profile(s) during the installation of BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, and BlackBerry User Administration

1. To verify that the MAPI subsystem is initialized, open Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator.

2. On the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software CD, open the Tools folder.

3. From the command prompt run the fixmapisvc.exe utility and specify the mapisvc.inf file as follows:"fixmapisvc.exe c:\winnt\system32\mapisvc.inf".

A DOS screen appears briefly on the screen. The mapisvc.inf file is automatically installed under C:/winnt/system32/.

Installing and registering CDO.dllThe CDO.dll that is supplied with Microsoft Outlook does not enable wireless calendar synchronization. You must install both the correct CDO.dll hotfix and Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator Service Pack 4 to have the correct CDO.dll and MAPI versions.

1. Verify that you are logged in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer as the Administrator.

2. If Microsoft Outlook is currently installed, remove it.

3. Copy the CDO.dll hotfix to C:/winnt/system32/.

� Manually register the CDO.dll hotfix using one of the following methods:At the command prompt (C:/winnt/system32/), type regsvr32 cdo.dll



� From the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, in the Open field, type regsvr32 cdo.dll

Installing database softwareOne of the following database tools must be installed if you want to host the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server: MSDE, SQL 7.0, or SQL 2000.

If you do not have a copy of SQL 7.0 or SQL 2000, you can use the copy of MSDE that is included on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software CD (see drive:\MSDE\msdex86.exe). MSDE can also be installed directly from the Microsoft Office 2000 Developer CD-ROM.

1. Copy msdeinst.iss and msdex86.exe to C:\msdetmp. (You have to create the msdetmp folder.)

2. If you want to install MSDE to a drive other than C:\, you must modify the msdeinst.iss file. Open msdeinst.iss and then search for and change the following lines to the desired location: szDir=C:\MSSQL7 szDataDir=C:\MSSQL7

3. On the computer on which you plan to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database, go to drive:\msdetmp and execute this command line statement from the temporary folder:start /wait msdex86.exe -s -a -f1 "drive:\msdetmp\MSDEInst.iss" where drive:\msdetmp is the full path to the temporary folder.

4. Allow 5-10 minutes for the command to run in the background.

5. Delete the temporary folder and its contents. A new folder should be visible: drive:\MSSQL7

6. From the Start menu, select Programs > MSDE > Service Manager.

7. Click Start. Verify that the SQL Server service is running before you continue with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation.

Note: The following procedure is necessary only if you do not have SQL 7.0 or SQL 2000 installed and you want to install MSDE.

Warning: You cannot run the MSDE installation file from a Terminal Server service.

Upgrading from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions

Upgrading from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions

The following procedures are required to upgrade from the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management:

1. Exporting system information from the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions

2. Upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6

3. Importing system information to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management

4. Removing BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration extensions

You must complete these procedures in the order in which they are presented below. Complete the following procedure to export system information from the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions before you install BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6.

Exporting system information from the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensionsYou can use the Export feature on the BlackBerry Servers Properties window to export server information for migration to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management.

1. Open the Microsoft Exchange Administration window.

2. From the Configuration container, double-click the BlackBerry Servers item. The BlackBerry Server Properties window appears.

3. From the Server Config list, click Export. A Save As dialog box appears.

4. Browse to the desired directory location. Click Save. The BlackBerry Servers Properties window appears. A text file, which contains configuration information for each BlackBerry Enterprise Server in the site, is saved to the defined location.

Warning: BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 does not support Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions. If you are upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 and previously used only the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions, you must upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management or the administration extensions data will be lost.



The generated text file contains a line for each BlackBerry Enterprise Server in the site. The information includes server name, server mailbox display name, server Domain Name (DN), and BlackBerry Enterprise Server DN.

Note: After you upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you must import the server information that you exported from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration extensions. Refer to "Importing system information" on page 139 for more information. You should remove the administration extensions after importing the system information. Refer to "Removing BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration extensions" on page 140 for more information.

Chapter 3: Planning your installation

OverviewThis chapter includes information to help you plan your installation and choose the appropriate installation type.

Refer to "Preinstallation procedures" on page 36 for more information on completing preinstallation procedures prior to beginning the installation process.

Installation proceduresTo complete an initial BlackBerry Enterprise Server install with Microsoft Exchange 5.52000, you must complete the following procedures:

1. Install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software using the Typical installation option or the Custom installation option.

Optionally, you can complete the following procedures:

� Install administration software on a separate computer than the one running the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service using the Admin Only installation option.

� Install features that are only available using the Custom installation option.

2. Complete the post-installation procedures. (Refer to "Postinstallation procedures" on page 133 for more information.)

Note: If you are running BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1 or version 3.5, you do not need to remove your current software to upgrade your BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software to version 3.6. Complete the installation procedure as shown in this chapter.

Note: If you are installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server in a mixed mode environment (where a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server is added to support an existing Microsoft Exchange 5.5 environment), refer to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Installation and Getting Started Guide on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software CD for full prerequisites for installing with Microsoft Exchange 2000. Microsoft Exchange 2000 capabilities are limited in mixed-mode and only one routing group will be visible in BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management if you install it on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server in a mixed-mode environment.


Installation types

Installation typesWhen installing, you can choose between the three installation types, Typical, Admin Only, and Custom, that help determine the tools and options you will install. The following table describes each installation type.

Custom This installation type enables you to choose the specific tools you wish to install. Select this option to remove any of the Typical or Admin Only installation options or to install any of the following tools alone or in addition to the Typical or Admin Only installation options:

� BlackBerry User Administration

� BlackBerry Service #2, #3 and #4

� Mobile Data Service #2, #3 and #4

� Attachment Connector #2, #3 and #4 (see Note below this table)

� Attachment Service on a remote computer (see Note below this table)

Note: The attachment connector on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server processes attachments converted by the local or remote attachment service for viewing on the BlackBerry handheld. Attachment service and attachment connector settings are configurable after installation through the BlackBerry Attachment Service Configuration tool, installed by default with the attachment service. (The BlackBerry Attachment Service Configuration tool is not listed as an installation option.)



Use the installation types as follows:

TypicalUse a Typical installation to install all of the default tools, creating a BlackBerry Enterprise Server with local installations of BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console, Mobile Data Service, attachment service, attachment connector, utilities, and documentation.

Admin OnlyUse an Admin Only installation to create a stand alone administration server. Refer to "Installing administration software" on page 103 for more information on using the Admin Only option to install the administration software on a separate computer from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.

CustomUse a Custom installation to locally or remotely install stand alone tools, or to install additional services on the existing BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The following are examples of installation configurations that are possible with a Custom installation:

BlackBerry User Administration

BlackBerry User Administration is not included by default with the Typical installation option. It is not included with the Admin Only installation option unless it is already on the target administration computer. Use the Custom installation configuration to install BlackBerry User Administration by selecting it and the other components of a Typical or Admin Only installation (depending on whether you want it on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or a remote computer).

BlackBerry User Administration requires that BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management be installed on the same computer, but you can use the Custom installation to select on those two tools if you do not want to install all of the tools included in an Admin Only installation. Refer to "Installing standalone BlackBerry User Administration" on page 119 for more information on a custom installation that installs stand alone BlackBerry User Administration.

Remote attachment service

The attachment service feature requires that you install an attachment connector on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and the attachment service on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or a remote computer.


Installation types

Use the Custom installation configuration to install the attachment service in a stand alone setup on a computer other than the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. You might consider this installation configuration if high resource usage of the attachment service in your environment places a heavy load on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Refer to Attachment Service Performance Issues on the BlackBerry support site (http://www.blackberry.com/support/) for full details on potential performance issues in a heavy load environment.

Refer to "Installing the attachment service on a remote computer" on page 73 for more information on a custom installation that installs stand alone attachment service on a remote computer.

Multiple services

Refer to "Installing and removing multiple services" on page 81 for more information on a custom installation that enables you to install multiple BlackBerry Enterprise Server, Mobile Data Service, and Attachment Connector instances. Up to four instances of each of these tools can be installed on a computer.

Selecting Custom setup options

The following generic procedure explains how to select or deselect options during a Custom installation:

1. When you select Custom, during the installation the Custom Setup screen appears.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each item.

6. To check available disk space on the drive(s) available, click Space.

The Disk Space Requirements screen lists all the available local and network drives, and the disk size, available space, and required space on each drive. If a drive is highlighted, it has insufficient space to install the components that you have selected.

Chapter 4: Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software (Typical installation)

You should complete these steps in the order in which they appear in this document. All the steps are required unless otherwise stated.

Before you beginVerify that you meet all system requirements and that you completed all prerequisite procedures before you begin the installation. Refer to "Preinstallation procedures" on page 36 for more information on completing preinstallation procedures prior to beginning the installation process.

Refer to "Upgrading BlackBerry Enterprise Server" on page 148 for more information if you are upgrading from an earlier installation of BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 Service Pack 1.

Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software (Typical installation)1. Verify that you are logged in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server target computer as the

BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account. Run the provided setup program to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation program.

If you have Microsoft Outlook installed, a warning dialog box appears.

Note: If you are running BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1 or version 3.5, you do not need to remove your current software to upgrade your BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software to version 3.6. Complete the installation procedure as shown in this chapter.

Warning: If you are upgrading from the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, you must export your server information from the administration extensions before you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6. Refer to "Upgrading from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions" on page 43 for more information.

Warning: You should not have Microsoft Outlook installed on the computer on which you are installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If Microsoft Outlook is present on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer, wireless calendar synchronization does not work because Microsoft Outlook’s versions of CDO.dll and MAPI files do not support wireless calendar synchronization. If Microsoft Outlook is opened on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, it attempts to overwrite the MAPI system. Therefore, Microsoft Outlook on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server is an unsupported configuration.

Click OK to acknowledge that you are aware that you must remove Microsoft Outlook for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to function properly after installation. You should remove Microsoft Outlook before proceeding with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation.

If you do not have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4 installed, a warning dialog box appears.

This software is provided on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server CD. Click OK. Install JRE 1.4. Refer to "System requirements" on page 28 for more information.

Note: Read the license agreement carefully. Proceeding with the installation indicates that you agree with the conditions of the license agreement. Failure to accept the agreement results in the termination of the installation program.

Note: If you are upgrading from a BlackBerry Enterprise Server version that is earlier than 3.6, you must select Custom. Refer to "Upgrading BlackBerry Enterprise Server" on page 148 for more information.



Installing BlackBerry service(s)The Typical setup procedure begins with the installation of a BlackBerry service.

2. Click Next. The BlackBerry Server Communication Information screen appears.

3. In the BlackBerry Server Name field, type a unique name that identifies the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. You must provide this exact server name when you configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console.

Warning: After you have assigned a server name, you cannot rename the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.


Installing BlackBerry service(s)

4. In the SRP Host field, type the SRP Address. This is the Network Access Node BlackBerry Enterprise Server uses to connect to the network (for example, srp.na.blackberry.net). Use the SRP Address value provided on your installation CD label, unless you are using a proxying firewall, in which case the network access node must be the internal IP of the Proxy, not the SRP Address.

5. In the SRP Port field, type the port number for the network access node that is defined above. Unless you are using a port mapping firewall, this value should be 3101.

6. Click Test Network Connection to verify that your settings permit connection to the network.

� If the connection is unsuccessful, click OK. The Communication Information screen appears. Verify that the values are correct and retest. If the connection is still unsuccessful, a firewall configuration problem might exist.

� If the connection is successful, in the confirmation dialog box, click OK.

7. Click Next. The BlackBerry Server MAPI Profile screen appears.

8. In the Admin MAPI Profile field, type the name of the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration service account, which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service uses to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server. If you type the name of a non-existent MAPI profile, you are prompted to create a new MAPI profile. Click Yes. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears. You can also select Create/Edit MAPI Profile to open the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box.

� On the General tab, in the Microsoft Exchange server field, type the name of the Microsoft Exchange server on which you created the service account mailbox.

� In the Mailbox field, type the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration mailbox (for example, BESAdmin).

� Click Check Name to confirm both the server and mailbox names that you specified.

� After both names appear underlined, click OK. The BlackBerry Server MAPI Profile screen appears.

9. Click Next.

Note: If the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box does not open, and the error Unable to find Exchange Server MAPI component occurs, you should verify that the MAPI subsystem is initialized. The error occurs because a MAPI client is not already present on the server. The fixmapisvc.exe utility enables the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation to facilitate MAPI profile creation and editing. Refer to "Creating a MAPI profile" on page 41 for more information.

Note: If you are installing multiple BlackBerry Enterprise Server services on a single server, the installation settings screens for the next BlackBerry Enterprise Server service appears, and should be completed the same way as the installation settings were completed for BlackBerry Enterprise Server service #1. Refer to "Installing and removing multiple services" on page 81 for more information.


Installing the attachment service and connector(s)

Installing the attachment service and connector(s)The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation enables you to install the attachment service and attachment service connector(s) at this point in the installation. The attachment service feature requires that you install an attachment connector on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and the attachment service on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or a remote computer.

Both the attachment service and one attachment service connector are selected by default during a Typical installation to be installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer. The attachment service connector is installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (the local computer). The attachment service is installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, but can also be installed on a remote computer using a Custom installation. Refer to "Installing the attachment service on a remote computer" on page 73 for more information if you want to install the attachment service on a separate computer.

3. In the Server Name field, localhost (the local BlackBerry Enterprise Server name) appears by default. To install the attachment service on a remote computer, type the name of the remote computer.

If you are installing the attachment service on a remote server, click Test Network Connection to verify that the connection to the remote computer is working.

4. Click Next.

3. In the Database Information screen, if you installed an SQL Server instance, the name of the SQL Server appears by default in the SQL Server Name field. If you do not have an SQL Server, the local computer name appears instead. You can replace the default server name with the name of another server on which you intend to install the database, or with the name of a server on which a database that you want to use already resides.

Note: If you do not want to install the database on the local computer (that is, if you change the server name to that of another computer on which you want to use a database), you cannot use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server InstallShield Wizard to install the database. You can manually install the database at any time following the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation. Refer to "Creating a database after the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation (optional)" on page 116 for more information.



4. In the Database Information section, accept the default Database Name (BESMgmt) or type a new name in the Database Name field.

5. In the Database Authentication section, choose the database authentication type predetermined by the database installation (Windows (trusted) for Windows NT Authentication or SQL Authentication).

� If you select SQL Authentication in the SQL User Name field, accept the default user name (sa) or type a new user name; and, in the Password field, accept the default password (no password) or type a new password. The user name and password are used only to create the SQL database.

� If you select Windows (trusted), the SQL User Name field, and Password field are disabled (unavailable).

6. Click Next.

The InstallShield Wizard attempts to detect and verify an SQL Server instance if you have entered a server name or the local computer name. If you have entered a remote server name where the database is or will be installed, nothing is detected, and the following warning appears.

If this warning appears, click OK. You have the option of installing MSDE from the Database Path Information screen (refer to page 63). If a dialog box appears that prompts you to start the SQL Server service, click Yes.

7. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Database Maintenance screen appears.

Note: If you do not know the database authentication type, ask your database administrator.

� To create a database for BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, select Create BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database

� To update a database you already created, select Update BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database

11. If you have not installed MSDE or SQL Server, you can click Install MSDE to run a silent installation at this point. (If you installed SQL Server and it is detected by the InstallShield Wizard, the Install MSDE option does not appear.) A warning dialog box appears.

12. Click Yes. A dialog box appears that enables you to select the location of MSDE on your local computer.

Field Directory path

Database Program Path This field should display the root directory of your SQL files location. If the correct directory path does not appear by default, click Browse to select it from the Database Program Path dialog box, or type it in the Database Program Path field.

Database Data Path This field should display the directory of your SQL data store. If the correct directory path does not appear by default, click Browse to select it from the Database Data Path dialog box, or type it in the Database Data Path field.



13. Browse to the location that you want to use. Click OK.

The InstallShield Wizard minimizes during the MSDE installation. The installation requires approximately three minutes.

14. Click Next. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management MAPI Profile screen appears.

15. In the Management MAPI Profile field, type the name of the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management administration service account, which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service uses to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server.

If you type the name of a non-existent MAPI profile, you are prompted to create a new MAPI profile. Click Yes. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears. You can also select Create/Edit MAPI Profile to open the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box.

Note: An hourglass might appear while this dialog box is open. Choose the location. Click OK even if an hourglass continues to appear while you complete these actions.

Note: The service account name can be the same as or different from the MAPI profile and service account that you use for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. You can change the default MAPI profile name to match that of another MAPI profile.





� In the Mailbox field, type the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management administration mailbox (for example, BESAdmin).


� After both names appear underlined, click OK. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management MAPI Profile screen appears.

16. Click Next. The Installation Settings for Mobile Data Service screen appears.



Installing Mobile Data Service

Installing Mobile Data ServiceThe BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation enables you to install Mobile Data Service at this point in the installation.

The Mobile Data Service installation is associated with BlackBerry Service #1, and includes Central Push Service by default. The push server can be enabled after installation (through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console) on one BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Data Service installed.

2. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management MAPI profile appears by default in the MAPI Profile field. Mobile Data Service should use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database settings.

3. In the Database Consistency Polling Frequency field, the default value of 24 (hours) appears. This frequency is the rate at which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database is checked against the data in users� mailboxes. You can change this value if you wish. It can also be changed after installation through the Mobile Data Service Properties window Push Server tab if you have set a centralized push server.

4. Click Next.

If you installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management and configured the database information, you can proceed to �Completing the installation� on page 69. If you did not install BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on the local computer, you must now type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server database information that is used by Mobile Data Service.

5. The Database Information screen appears.

Completing the installationThe following steps enable you to enter your Windows NT login informaiton and verify the options you have chosen to install.

2. In the Password field, type the password for the login account displayed in the Account field. The account shown is the account that you logged in with to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software. Chapter 5: Installing the attachment service on a remote computer

You can choose to install the attachment service on the same computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service during the installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (occurs by default in a Typical installation), or you can install it separately, on a remote computer in a stand alone setup. This chapter explains how to install the attachment service on a remote computer.

You should complete these steps in the order in which they appear in this document. All the steps are required unless otherwise stated.

Preinstallation steps� Verify that you meet all system requirements (see page 28) and that you completed all

prerequisite procedures before you begin the installation.

� Verify that you have installed an attachment connector on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s) on which you wish to enable attachment viewing. The attachment connector(s) can be configured during or after installation to point to the remote attachment service.

� Verify that you are logged in to the target computer as an Administrator service account.

Chapter 6: Installing and removing multiple services

OverviewAfter completing an initial installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, you should have installed at least one instance of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service. By default, BlackBerry Service #1 is selected and installed, although you might have changed your installation options to install any of the four BlackBerry services that are listed. Refer to "Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software (Typical installation)" on page 51 for more information.

Using the Custom installation type, you can install up to four BlackBerry Enterprise Server services on a single computer. For each BlackBerry Enterprise Server service, you can install a Mobile Data Service instance and an Attachment Connector instance. If you install multiple Attachment Connector instances, all connectors will point to the same attachment service server, whether the attachment service is installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or on a remote computer.

If you install a BlackBerry Enterprise Server service and do not install the Mobile Data Service or Attachment Connector for that service, that BlackBerry Enterprise Server service will not have Mobile Data Service functionality or access to the Attachment Service.

Verify that you meet all system requirements for the tools you will install and have completed all prerequisite procedures before you begin the installation. Refer to "Preinstallation" on page 27 for more information.

Installing multiple servicesBefore beginning installation, verify that you are logged in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server target computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account.

1. Run the provided setup program to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation program.


Warning: If you are installing the attachment service locally or on a remote computer, you must install at least one attachment connector on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If you select attachment service for installation and deselect all the attachment connectors, the following warning appears

Click OK to acknowledge that you must remove Microsoft Outlook for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to function properly after the installation.




2. The Welcome screen appears.


Warning: Microsoft Outlook should not be installed on the computer on which you are installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If Microsoft Outlook is present on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer, wireless calendar synchronization does not work because the Microsoft Outlook versions of CDO.dll and MAPI files do not support wireless calendar synchronization. If Microsoft Outlook is opened on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, it attempts to overwrite the MAPI system. Microsoft Outlook on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server is an unsupported configuration.



3. Click Next. The Program Maintenance screen appears.

Warning: A unique SRP Identifier is required to connect the service to the wireless network. When you add the new BlackBerry Enterprise Server service to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console, you must provide the unique SRP Identifier or the server status will remain unknown and you will be unable to start the service.

Note: To add more BlackBerry services, repeat the steps above for one or both of the BlackBerry Service #3 and BlackBerry Service #4 options on the Custom Setup screen.

Note: To add more Mobile Data Service instances, first add the new BlackBerry Service and then repeat the steps above for one or both of the MDS Service #3 and MDS Service #4 options on the Custom Setup screen.



12. If you want to install the Attachment Connector for this BlackBerry Service instance, select Attachment Connector #2. A drop-down list appears.



14. Click Next. The Installation Settings for BlackBerry Service #2 screen appears.

Note: To add more Attachment Connectors, first add the new BlackBerry Service and then repeat the steps above for one or both of the Attachment Connector #3 and Attachment Connector #4 options on the Custom Setup screen.




2. In the BlackBerry Server Name field, type a unique name to identify the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.

3. In the SRP Host field, type the SRP Address. This is the Network Access Node that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server uses to connect to the network (for example, srp.na.blackberry.net). Use the SRP Address value that is provided on your installation CD label, unless you are using a proxy firewall, in which case the network access node must be the internal IP of the proxy, not the SRP Address.

4. In the SRP Port field, type the port number for the network access node that is defined above. Unless you are using a port mapping firewall, this value should be 3101.


� If the connection is unsuccessful, click OK. The Communication Information screen, verify the values are correct and retest. If the connection is still unsuccessful, a firewall configuration problem might exist.

� If the connection is successful, in the confirmation dialog box, click OK.


Note: Record the server name that you define here. You must provide this exact name when you configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console.




7. In the Admin MAPI Profile field, type the name of the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account, which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service uses to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server. If you type the name of a non-existent MAPI profile, you are prompted to create a new MAPI profile. Click Yes. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears. You can also select Create/Edit MAPI Profile to open the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box.









8. Click Next.

Installing multiple attachment connectorsThe BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation enables you to install multiple attachment connectors at this point in the installation if you selected that option.

If have installed or will install the attachment service on a remote server, click Test Network Connection to verify that the connection to the remote computer is working.

4. Click Next. If you chose to install another Mobile Data Service instance, the Installation Settings for Mobile Data Service screen appears.

Installing multiple Mobile Data ServicesThe BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation enables you to install multiple Mobile Data Services at this point in the installation, if you selected one or more additional Mobile Data Service instances to be installed.

The Mobile Data Service installation is associated with the BlackBerry service it is grouped with, and includes Central Push Service by default. The push server can be enabled after installation (through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console) on one BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Data Service installed.




Note: The service account that is used by Mobile Data Service to access the database (the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service account), requires read/write access on the database.



3. In the Database Consistency Polling Frequency field, the default value of 24 (hours) appears. This frequency is the rate at which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database is checked against the data in users� mailboxes. You can change this value if you wish. It can also be changed after installation through the Mobile Data Service Properties window Push Server tab if you have set a centralized push server.

4. Click Next.

If you installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management and configured the database information, you can proceed to �Completing the installation of multiple services� on page 94. If you did not install BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on the local computer, you must now type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server database information that is used by Mobile Data Service.

5. The Database Information screen appears.


6. In the Database Information section, if you installed an SQL Server instance, the name of the SQL Server appears by default in the SQL Server Name field. If you do not have an SQL Server, the local computer name appears instead. You can replace the default server name with the name of another server on which you intend to install the database, or with the name of a server on which a database you want to use already resides.










The rest of the installation process is the same, regardless of which options you are installing.

Completing the installation of multiple services1. Click Next. The Windows NT Login Information screen appears.





2. In the Password field, type the password for the login account that is shown in the Account field. The account that is shown is the account with which you logged in to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software. This account should be the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account that you defined during the initial BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation (after you should have installed, at minimum, BlackBerry service #1).

3. Click Next. The password that you define is verified. You must define a valid password to proceed with the installation.





5. Review the settings that appear in this window before you continue the installation. Click Install to begin the installation.

6. Click Finish.



Removing service(s)

1. Run the provided setup program to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation program. The Welcome screen appears.




Warning: At least one BlackBerry Enterprise Server service is required to run the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.



3. Select the Modify option. Click Next. The Customer Information window appears.


4. Verify your customer information. Click Next. The License Agreement screen appears.







6. Select BlackBerry Service #2. From the drop-down list, click This feature will not be available.

8. Review the changes that you are about to make. Click Install. The InstallShield Wizard removes the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service(s).

A dialog appears that prompts you to choose whether or not to remove all data that is associated with the services that you are removing.

9. Click Yes to remove all data associated with the service, or click No to leave data on the local computer.



After the removal process is complete, the final screen of the InstallShield Wizard appears.


10. Click Finish. The InstallShield Wizard closes.


Chapter 7Installing administration softwareThis section provides information on the following topics:

� Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software (standalone)

Chapter 7: Installing administration software

You can choose to install BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management during the installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, or you can install it separately, either on the same computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service, or on a different computer in a standalone setup.

Before you install BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software, verify that you have completed the necessary preinstallation procedures. Refer to "Preinstallation" on page 27 for more information.

Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software (standalone)1. Select one of the following options:

� Log in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service account (which can be the same as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account)

� Log in to a different computer running Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5 or later) or Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 1 or later) or Windows XP that has Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator or Microsoft Exchange 2000 System Manager or Microsoft Outlook 2000 (Corporate or Workgroup installation) installed. Refer to "System requirements" on page 28 for more information.

2. Run the setup program to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation. The Welcome screen appears.

Warning: If you are upgrading from the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, you must export your server information from the administration extensions before you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6. Refer to "Upgrading from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions" on page 43 for more information.

Note: If you are using Microsoft Exchange 2000, the service account/mailbox that is used to install and run the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software must have the following Microsoft Exchange 2000 permissions: Exchange View-only Administration, and Administer information store

Note: If you are installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on a computer on which BlackBerry Enterprise Server is not installed, the InstallShield Wizard runs a new installation, enabling you to install any BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software through a Custom setup.

9. In the SQL Server Name field, accept the default local server name, or type the name of a different server on which you have installed, or intend to install, a database.

10. In the Database Name field, accept the default Database Name (BESMgmt) or type a new name.

Note: If you do not want to install the database on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management computer (that is, if you change the server name to that of another computer on which you want to use a database), you cannot use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server InstallShield Wizard to install the database. You can manually install the database at any time after you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. Refer to "Creating a database after the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation (optional)" on page 116 for more information.



11. In the Database Authentication section, select the database authentication type: Windows (trusted) for Windows NT Authentication or SQL Authentication.

12. If you select SQL Authentication, complete the following steps:

� In the SQL User Name field, accept the default user name (sa) or type a new user name.

� In the Password field, accept the default password (no password) or type a new password. The user name and password are used only to create the SQL database.

13. Click Next. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Database Maintenance screen appears (unless you have chosen to host the database on a separate computer). If you have chosen to host the database on a separate computer, proceed to step 24 on page 110.





15. Click Next. The Database Path Information screen appears (unless you have chosen to host the database on a separate computer).





16. Confirm that the root directory of your SQL files location (as it appears in the Database Program Path field) is correct. If the correct directory path does not appear by default, click Browse to select it from the Database Program Path dialog box, or type it in the Database Program Path field.

17. Confirm that the directory of your SQL data store (as it appears in the Database Data Path field) is correct. If the correct directory path does not appear by default, click Browse to select it from the Database Data Path dialog box, or type it in the Database Data Path field.

18. If you have not installed MSDE or SQL Server yet, click Install MSDE to run a silent installation at this point. A warning dialog box appears.


19. Click Yes. A dialog box prompts you to select the location of MSDE on your local computer.

Browse to the location that you want to use. Click OK. The InstallShield Wizard minimizes while MSDE is installed. The installation requires approximately three minutes.



21. In the Management MAPI Profile field, type the name of the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management administration service account, which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service uses to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server. This name can be the same as or different from the MAPI profile and service account that you use for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If you type the name of a non-existent MAPI profile, you are prompted to create a new MAPI profile. Click Yes. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears. You can also select Create/Edit MAPI Profile to open the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box.








22. Click Next. One of the following occurs:

� If you did not previously install BlackBerry User Administration on the computer, proceed to �Completing the installation� on page 115.

� If you previously had installed BlackBerry User Administration on the computer, you can update it now by completing the updating BlackBerry User Administration procedure below.

To create a MAPI profile for each BlackBerry administration mailbox that is associated with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, in the BlackBerry Server Name field, type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server name and in the Admin MAPI Profile field, type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration MAPI Profile name.

Note: You can administer multiple MAPI profiles that have the same name on different servers, but you cannot add a server name more than once. If you try to add the same server more than once, a Duplicate BES Server entered warning message appears.



� If you are using an existing MAPI profile, click Add to add the server and MAPI profile combination to the Server List. This action adds the server name and its MAPI profile to the RemoteAdmin.txt file in the BlackBerry User Administration folder after installation. The BlackBerry User Administration service reads this file when it starts. The file name and location are defined through a registry key.

� If the MAPI profile does not yet exist or requires editing, click Create/Edit Profile. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears.



� In the Mailbox field, type the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management administration mailbox.

� Click Check Name to confirm both the server and mailbox names that you specified. Both names appear underlined after they are confirmed.

� Click OK. The BlackBerry Server List window appears.

4. In the BlackBerry Server List window, click Add to add the server and its MAPI profile to the Server List. This adds the server name and its MAPI profile to the RemoteAdmin.txt file found in the BlackBerry User Administration folder after installation. The BlackBerry User




Administration service reads this file when it starts. The file name and location are defined through a registry key.

5. Continue to add servers and their MAPI profiles to the Server List. After you finish, click Next. The Windows NT Login Information screen appears.


Note: If you do not want to add any or all Server:MAPI Profile combinations at this time, you can add Server:MAPI Profile combinations manually to RemoteAdmin.txt after you run the installer. In RemoteAdmin.txt, the server name and the MAPI profile name are separated by a tab. Any extra spacing (other than a single tab) renders the Server:MAPI Profile combination unreadable.

You can also run the installer again at any time to add Server:MAPI Profile combinations to RemoteAdmin.txt.

Note: If you click Next without adding a pending Server:MAPI Profile combination to the Server List, a dialog box prompts you to decide whether or not you want to add “Server:MAPI Profile” to the list. Click Yes or No.

2. Review the settings that appear in this window. Click Install. The Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server screen appears.







After the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software is installed, you can add BlackBerry Enterprise Servers to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console and begin managing BlackBerry Enterprise Servers using the console.

Creating a database after the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation (optional)

1. Using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service account, log in to the computer on which you want to create the database.

2. Change to the database directory and complete one of the procedures shown below, according to the server on which you want to install the database:

If you are installing the database on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management computer:

Note: If you did not install the database prior to running BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, you receive an error message the first time that you open BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management.

Warning: If you successfully installed the database during the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation, you do not have to complete the following procedure.

Note: Before you create a database with SQL Server, you must start MSSQLSERVER (the SQL Server service).



� at a command prompt, change to the directory in which the database script files are installed, as specified in the Choose Destination Location window during the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation. Typically, the directory path is:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management\Database\

If you are installing the database on a computer other than the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management computer select one of the following options:

� Copy the database directory from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management computer. Typically, the directory path is as follows: Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management\Database\On the new computer, at a command prompt, change to the database directory.

� Change to the database directory on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management computer, and then run CreateDB.exe (as shown in the following step), but specify the correct parameters for the location of osql.exe on the new server, the location of the data directory on the new server, and the name of the new server.

For example, at the command prompt, type

CreateDB.exe -o “\\Server2\mssql7\binn\osql.exe” -l “c:\mssql7\data\” -S Server2

where the new server�s osql.exe location is \\Server2\mssql7\binn\osql.exe, the new server�s data directory location is c:\mssql7\data\, and the new server name is Server2.

3. Create a database using CreateDB.exe, with one of the following methods:

� To create a database using the default values, at the command line, type the following command:

� To change default values for the database, add -? to the command, as shown below, to view the parameters:

CreateDB.exe -?

To change a database parameter, run the CreateDB.exe command, and add the parameter(s) to be changed and new parameter value(s), as shown in the example below:

CreateDB.exe -P database -n DB

where the password is changed to database and the database name is changed to DB.

Note: The database parameters are as follows:

-S is the name of the computer on which the database is to be installed (default is the local computer).

-U is the user ID that is required to gain access to the SQL server (the default value is sa).

-P is the password that is required to gain access to the SQL server (the default value for SQL/MSDE is no password, indicated as ““).

-n is the database name (BESMgmt by default).

-o is the location of the osql.exe utility.

-l is the location of the data directory.

-q is quiet mode (no messages).

-d is the directory of the input SQL files (the current directory, in which you are running MMCCreateDB.exe, is the default).

-E indicates a trusted connection should be used instead of SQL authentication (if this is present, the userID and password are ignored).

-delete indicates that if the database exists already, it will be backed up, deleted and recreated. Otherwise, if a database with the given name already exists, it is updated.

-k <key> enables you to specify a license key to add to the database.

� Log in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service account (which can be the same as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account)

� Log in to a different computer running Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5 or later) or Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 1 or later) or Windows XP that has Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator or Microsoft Exchange 2000 System Manager or Microsoft Outlook 2000 (Corporate or Workgroup installation) installed. Refer to "System requirements" on page 28 for more information.

2. Run the setup program to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation program. If you have installed other BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software options on the same computer already, the InstallShield Wizard runs an upgrade/modify/remove program that enables you to install BlackBerry User Administration. Otherwise, the InstallShield Wizard runs an initial installation, which requires you to enter a license key and to accept the software license agreement.


3. Click Next. If this is the first installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software on this computer, complete the following steps:

� In the Customer Information window, type the customer information and the license key.

Warning: To install BlackBerry User Administration, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management must also be installed on the same computer.

Note: If you are using Microsoft Exchange 2000, the service account/mailbox used to install and run BlackBerry User Administration must have the following Microsoft Exchange 2000 permissions: Exchange View-only Administration, Administer information store, and Receive as.


Installing BlackBerry User Administration software (stand alone)

� In the License Agreement window, read the license agreement and, if you agree to its terms, accept the license agreement.

� In the Setup Type window, click Custom setup type.

If this is an update to an earlier installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software on this computer, complete the following steps:

� In the Program Maintenance window, select the Modify option.

� In the Customer Information window, verify your customer information

� In the License Agreement window, read the license agreement and, if you agree to its terms, accept the license agreement.

The Custom Setup screen appears.

4. Click an item you do not wish to install that is marked by a icon. A drop-down list appears.

5. Click This feature will not be available.





6. Repeat the previous two steps for each item you do not wish to install.

7. Click BlackBerry User Administration and, in the drop-down list, click This feature will be installed on local hard drive.

8. If BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management is not installed on this computer already, click BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. A drop-down list appears.


10. Click Next.

If you installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management already, proceed to Installing BlackBerry User Administration on page 128. Otherwise, continue with Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management.

Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server ManagementRefer to "Installing administration software" on page 103 for more information on installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on a separate computer from BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and creating a database.

Unless you installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management already, the Installation Settings for BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management screen appears.

Warning: To install BlackBerry User Administration, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management must also be installed on the same computer. If you try to install BlackBerry User Administration without BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, a warning appears and BlackBerry User Administration cannot be installed.






2. In the SQL Server Name field, accept the local server name, or type the name of another server on which you intend to install, or have already installed, a database.

3. In the Database Name field, accept the default name (BESMgmt) or type a new name.




4. In the Database Authentication section, select the database authentication type: Windows (trusted) for Windows NT Authentication or SQL Authentication.

5. If you select SQL Authentication, complete the following additional steps:

� In the SQL User Name field, accept the default user name (sa) or type a new user name.

� In the Password field, accept the default password (no password) or type a new password. The user name and password are used only to create the SQL database.

6. Click Next. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Database Maintenance screen appears.





8. Click Next. The Database Path Information screen appears.





9. Confirm that the root directory of your SQL files location (as it appears in the Database Program Path field) is correct. If the correct directory path does not appear by default, click Browse to select it from the Database Program Path dialog box, or type it in the Database Program Path field.

10. Confirm that the directory of your SQL data store (as it appears in the Database Data Path field) is correct. If the correct directory path does not appear by default, click Browse to select it from the Database Data Path dialog box, or type it in the Database Data Path field.

11. If you have not yet installed MSDE or SQL Server, click Install MSDE to run a silent installation at this point (otherwise, proceed to step 15). A warning dialog box appears.


12. Click Yes. A dialog box appears that enables you to select the location of MSDE on your local computer.




13. Browse to the location that you want to use. Click OK. The InstallShield Wizard minimizes while MSDE is installed. The installation requires approximately three minutes.

14. After the MSDE installation completes, click Next. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management MAPI Profile screen appears.


15. In the Management MAPI Profile field, type the name of the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management administration service account, which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service uses to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server. This



name can be the same as or different from the MAPI profile and service account that you use for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

If you type the name of a non-existent MAPI profile, a dialog box prompts you to create a new MAPI profile. Click Yes. A Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears.






16. Click Next. The Installation Settings for BlackBerry User Administration screen appears.

Installing BlackBerry User Administration1. In the Installation Settings for BlackBerry User Administration screen, click Next. The

BlackBerry Server List screen appears.


2. To create a MAPI profile for each BlackBerry administration mailbox that is associated with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, in the BlackBerry Server Name field, type the BlackBerry



Enterprise Server name and in the Admin MAPI Profile field, type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration MAPI Profile name.

� If you are using an existing MAPI profile, click Add to add the server and MAPI profile combination to the Server List. This action adds the server name and its MAPI profile to the RemoteAdmin.txt file in the BlackBerry User Administration folder after installation. The BlackBerry User Administration service reads this file when it starts. The file name and location are defined through a registry key.

� If the MAPI profile does not yet exist or requires editing, click Create/Edit Profile. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears.










3. In the BlackBerry Server List window, click Add to add the server and its MAPI profile to the Server List. This adds the server name and its MAPI profile to the RemoteAdmin.txt file found in the BlackBerry User Administration folder after installation. The BlackBerry User Administration service reads this file when it starts. The file name and location are defined through a registry key.

4. Continue to add servers and their MAPI profiles to the Server List. After you finish, click Next. The Windows NT Login Information screen appears.


Complete the installation using the following procedure.



Note: If you click Next without adding a pending Server:MAPI Profile combination to the Server List, a dialog box prompts you to decide whether or not you want to add “Server:MAPI Profile” to the list. Click Yes or No.



Completing installation1. In the Password field, type the password for the login account that is shown in the Account

field. The account that appears is the account with which you logged in to install the software. This account should be the BlackBerry User Administration service account that you defined before you began the installation.

2. Click Next. Type the password for the service account. You must define a valid password to proceed with the installation.



4. Review the settings that appear in this window. Click Install. The Installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server screen appears.






5. Leave the Yes, I would like to view the readme file(s) now option selected. Click Finish.

The Readme file for this release of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software appears. It includes information about all of the available software that you might have chosen to install.

After the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management software is installed, you can add BlackBerry Enterprise Servers to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console and begin managing BlackBerry Enterprise Servers through the console.

Note: If you did not install the database prior to running BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, an error message appears the first time that you open BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management.

Chapter 9: Postinstallation procedures

These procedures should be completed after you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software. You should complete these steps in the order in which they appear in this document. All the steps are required unless otherwise stated.

Verifying MAPI profilesAfter you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, you can complete the following procedure to view and/or edit the MAPI profile(s) that you created for BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. The same MAPI profile can be used for both BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management.

Verifying the BlackBerry Enterprise Server MAPI profile1. From the Start menu, select Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit the MAPI Profile

for > BlackBerry Enterprise Server name. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears.


2. On the General tab, in the Microsoft Exchange server field, type the name of the Microsoft Exchange server on which you created the service account mailbox.

3. In the Mailbox field, type the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration mailbox (for example, BESAdmin).

4. Click Check Name to confirm both the server and mailbox names that you specified.

5. After both names appear underlined, click OK.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server MAPI profile is stored in the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Research In Motion/BlackBerry Enterprise Server/Servers/Servername/MAPIProfile).

Verifying the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management MAPI profile1. From the Start menu, select Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit the MAPI Profile

for > BlackBerry Server Management. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears.


2. On the General tab, in the Microsoft Exchange server field, type the name of the Microsoft Exchange server on which you created the service account mailbox.

3. In the Mailbox field, type the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management administration mailbox (for example, BESAdmin).

4. Click Check Name to confirm both the server and mailbox names that you specified.


The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management MAPI profile now exists and is stored in the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Research In Motion/BlackBerry Enterprise Server/Management/MAPIProfile).



Configuring the BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s)After you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server files, you must configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server(s) you installed.

One of your first administrative tasks is to add a BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console so that the server can be administered through the console. This task occurs at the site/routing group level. If a site/routing group is inactive, you cannot add BlackBerry Enterprise Servers to it. A site/routing group might be inactive if you (the Administrator) do not have permissions to the Microsoft Exchange Server, or if a Microsoft Exchange Server is currently unavailable.

1. In the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management interface, right-click the routing group.

2. Select New BlackBerry Server.

3. In the Server Name field, type the server name that you provided during the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation.

4. In the SRP Identifier and SRP Authentication Key fields, type the appropriate information provided on the installation CD label. This information is unique to each host license.

5. If host routing information is also provided on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation CD, in the Host Routing Information field, type the necessary information to connect to the mobile network.

6. Next to the Administration Mailbox field, click Select Mailbox to locate the mailbox that you created for BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration (this must be the same mailbox that is used during installation) or type the mailbox name into the field. Click Check Name. If there are any ambiguities within the mailbox name, the Microsoft Exchange Check Names window appears.

7. Verify your mailbox information. After you complete all necessary fields, click OK.

Repeat the procedure for additional BlackBerry Enterprise Servers. Verify that the SRP identifier and authentication keys are unique for each BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Stopping or starting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services

All of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services (with the exception of the BlackBerry Database Consistency Service) are installed as automatic services. You must manually start the services after the installation or upgrade. Initially starting the BlackBerry Server Servername service writes the host name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer to the administration mailbox.

If you need to stop or start the services at any time, complete one of the following procedures:

Tip: To simplify installations, upgrades, and reinstalls, create an .srp file containing your SRP Identifier and SRP Authentication Key. You can import this .srp file so that these values are added to the appropriate fields automatically when required. Keep this file in a secure directory.

Warning: You should only define values in this field if values are provided with the installation material. If you are using the default Network Access Node (the SRP Address value provided on your installation CD label), or are uncertain which values to use, leave this field blank. If you define incorrect values in this field, connection to the mobile network is not be possible.

Warning: If you have installed the attachment service, start the BlackBerry Attachment Server service before you start the BlackBerry Server Servername service.

Note: The first time you install BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, you must start the service(s) from Windows Services. After updating, upgrading, modifying, or stopping the service(s) for any other reason, you can restart the service(s) from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console.



Starting/stopping services through Windows Services1. From the Start button, select Settings > Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears.

3. Stop/Start services:

� Select the BlackBerry Server Servername item. Right-click and select Stop to stop the service. Select the BlackBerry Server item. Click Startup... to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service. Verify that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account name appears in the Account field. Change the service startup to Automatic. Click OK. Click Start to start the BlackBerry Server Servername service.

� Select the BlackBerry Mobile Data Server item. Click Stop or Start to stop or start the Mobile Data Service.

� BESAlert and the BlackBerry Database Consistency Service can be stopped and started only through Services.

4. Close the window.

Starting/stopping services through BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management1. Open BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. The Tree view expands automatically and

displays a list of BlackBerry Server site/routing groups.

2. In the Tree view, expand a routing group and right-click a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

3. Stop/Start services:

� Select Stop Server or Start Server to stop or start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.

� Select Stop Mobile Data Service or Start Mobile Data Service to stop or start the Mobile Data Service.

Importing system informationYou can import server information (for example, server name, administrator mailbox, and so on) to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management.

1. Open BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. The Tree view expands automatically and displays a list of BlackBerry Server site/routing groups.

2. In the Tree view, right-click BlackBerry Server Management. Click Import. A directory dialog box appears.

3. Browse to the directory location of the system information text file. Click Open. The Import BlackBerry Server dialog box appears.

4. Review the information that is imported. Click OK.

Warning: If you upgraded from using the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions to using BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, you should have exported your server information from the administration extensions, installed the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6, and then removed the administration extensions. You must import the server information that you exported from the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions before you installed the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6.



Removing BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration extensionsIf you previously used Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions to manage BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you should remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration extensions. You must remove the extensions AFTER you upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 Service Pack 1.

Verify that you have exported all server information from the administration extensions, installed the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6, and imported the server information to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management before you remove the administration extensions.

1. Log in using an account with administrative privileges (typically, BESAdmin) on the local computer.

2. From the Start menu, select Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Uninstall Administration Extensions.

Starting BlackBerry User Administration service manuallyThe BlackBerry User Administration service is installed as an automatic service, but must be started manually after an installation or upgrade.

Warning: If you upgraded from BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1 or earlier, WinBBinstaller.exe was automatically removed. WinBBinstaller.exe is required to remove the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions after you have upgraded and imported any system information as necessary. Contact technical support to obtain a copy of WinBBinstaller.exe.

Note: If you are using a Windows NT 4.0 Server, verify that you have installed Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) 2.5 and Microsoft Management Console 1.2 (in that order) before you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software.


Starting BlackBerry User Administration service manually

1. To open the Control Panel folder, from the Start button, select Settings > Control Panel.

3. Select the BBUserAdmin item. To start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service, click Start.



4. Click Startup. The BlackBerry User Administration Services window appears.

6. In the Log On As section, select This Account and verify that you specified a log on user account that has the right to administer Microsoft Exchange settings (using the permissions that were set before the installation).

7. Click OK. On the Services window, click Close.

Using the BlackBerry User Administration clientYou can use BlackBerry User Administration client to complete the following functions:

� add users to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server

� delete users from a BlackBerry Enterprise Server

� list all users on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server

� verify that a user exists on the specified BlackBerry Enterprise Server

The BlackBerry User Administration client is run from the command line of any computer on your network, and does not require administrative privileges. You can optionally provide input files for adding or deleting multiple users.


Using the BlackBerry User Administration client

Command line syntaxTo use the BlackBerry User Administration client, run it from the command line using the following syntax:

BBUserAdminClient -s servername -n networkaddress -flag(s)

Where:

� servername is the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that you want to administer

� networkaddress is the server�s network address

� and flag(s) is one or more of the commands (also called switches) that are described in the table below.

Defining an input fileIf you want to add or delete multiple users, you can provide an input file. The input file must contain a separate line for each Domain Name and provide the full mailbox Domain Name.

Reference the file with either the -f or -g flag when you run the BlackBerry User Administration client.

Prerequisites for upgrade

The system requirements and preinstallation procedures for an upgrade are identical to a new installation. You must verify that you have all of the system requirements installed and preinstallation procedures completed before upgrading. Refer to "Preinstallation" on page 27 for more information.

Upgrading overviewUsing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server InstallShield Wizard to upgrade, update, or modify your software:

1. Upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database server.

2. Upgrade all other BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management consoles, if you have more than one.

3. Upgrade the Blackberry Enterprise Server(s).

4. Complete the following post-upgrade procedures:

Note: If you are running BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1 or version 3.5, you do not need to remove your current software to upgrade your BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software to version 3.6.

Warning: If you are upgrading from the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, you must export your server information from the administration extensions before you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6.

Warning: Use of more than one database is an unsupported configuration. You must upgrade the database and all services to the same BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software version in a single time frame. If you do not upgrade all services at the same time, using the upgraded database with services running an older version will cause problems. Refer to "What is the recommended database configuration for BlackBerry Enterprise Server?" on page 221 for more information.

Warning: You should upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database server before upgrading BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on any other computer and before starting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service and Mobile Data Service. To accomplish this, upgrade BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on the database server or use the CreateDB.exe utility on a remote computer (after upgrading, but prior to starting the services). Refer to "Creating a database after the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation (optional)" on page 116 for more information on upgrading the database remotely.

Warning: You must upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database server and all other BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management consoles or the IT policy will fail.


Before upgrading your software

� Starting the attachment service (if you installed it)

� Starting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service. Refer to "Stopping or starting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services" on page 137 for more information.

� Starting the Mobile Data Service (if you installed it)

You should complete these steps in the order in which they appear in this document. All of the steps are required.

Before upgrading your software1. Log in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server target computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

service account or site services account (this account should have Local Administrator rights to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server).

2. Using Windows NT:In the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel. Double-click Services. Select BlackBerry Server and select Stop to stop the BlackBerry Server service. Select BES Alert and select Stop to stop the BlackBerry Server service.

3. Verify that you are logged in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer as the Administrator.

4. If Microsoft Outlook (97, 98, or 2000) is installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, a warning message appears to indicate that Microsoft Outlook should be removed before you proceed with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server install. Remove Microsoft Outlook.

5. If you have just removed Microsoft Outlook, install Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Service Pack 4 on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (or reinstall if it is already present).

6. Manually register the CDO.dll hotfix using one of the following methods:a) At the command prompt (C:/winnt/system32/), typeregsvr32 cdo.dllb) From the Start menu, select Run. In the Run dialog box, in the Open field, type regsvr32 cdo.dll

Warning: Before you install BlackBerry Enterprise Server, temporarily disable any "watchdog" agents (for example, BMC® PATROL®, NetIQ® XMP™, IBM® Tivoli®, or HP® OpenView®) that are currently monitoring the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Typically, a "watchdog" agent is used to restart services that might stop during normal operation. If you are running a "watchdog" agent, and you do not disable it, it might restart the BlackBerry service without warning during the installation process, causing unpredictable results.



Upgrading BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Verify that you are logged in on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server target computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account.

1. Run the provided setup program to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation program.



Click OK to acknowledge that you are aware that you must remove Microsoft Outlook for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to function properly after installation. You should remove Microsoft Outlook before proceeding with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software upgrade.


Warning: You should upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database server before upgrading BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on any other computer and before starting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service and Mobile Data Service. To accomplish this, upgrade BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management on the database server or use the CreateDB.exe utility on a remote computer (after upgrading, but prior to starting the services). Refer to "Creating a database after the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation (optional)" on page 116 for more information on upgrading the database remotely.

Warning: You should not have Microsoft Outlook installed on the computer on which you are installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If Microsoft Outlook is present on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer, wireless calendar synchronization does not work because Microsoft Outlook’s versions of CDO.dll and MAPI files do not support wireless calendar synchronization. If Microsoft Outlook is opened on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, it attempts to overwrite the MAPI system. Therefore, Microsoft Outlook on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server is an unsupported configuration.

Updating BlackBerry Enterprise ServerUpdating the existing installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 enables you to repair the installation and replace any missing files.

To update the existing BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation, complete the following procedure:

1. Verify that you are logged in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server target computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account. Run the provided setup program to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation program.


2. The Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for BlackBerry Enterprise Server upgrade program screen appears.


Note: You will see a Ready to upgrade BlackBerry Enterprise Server screen at the end of the installation instead of a Ready to install BlackBerry Enterprise Server screen. Click Install to complete the upgrade process.

3. The BlackBerry Server Communication Information screen displays your current BlackBerry Enterprise Server communication settings. Verify the settings or, if necessary, change the values that default from the earlier BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation.In the BlackBerry Server Name field, type a unique name that identifies the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Note: If you no longer want to update settings for this installation option, click Skip, and then proceed to page 157.

Note: Record the server name that you define here. You must provide this exact name when you configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console.



4. In the SRP Host field, type the SRP Address. This is the Network Access Node that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server uses to connect to the network (for example, srp.na.blackberry.net). Use the SRP Address value provided on your installation CD label, unless you are using a proxy firewall, in which case the network access node must be the internal IP of the Proxy, not the SRP Address.

5. In the SRP Port field, type the port number for the network access node defined above. Unless you're using a port mapping firewall, this value should be 3101.


7. If the connection is unsuccessful, click OK. The Communication Information screen appears. Verify the values are correct and retest. If the connection is still unsuccessful, a firewall configuration problem might exist.

8. If the connection is successful, in the confirmation dialog box, click OK.



10. In the Admin MAPI Profile field, type the name of the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration service account, which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service uses to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server. If you type the name of a non-existent MAPI profile, you are prompted to create a new MAPI profile. Click Yes. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears. You can also select Create/Edit MAPI Profile to open the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box.






� Click Check Name to confirm both the server and mailbox names you specified.


11. Click Next.

Update or review attachment service and connectorsThe BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation enables you to update or review the attachment service if you selected that option. If you did not choose to update the attachment service, proceed to page 157.

3. In the Database Information section, if you installed an SQL Server instance, the name of the SQL Server appears by default in the SQL Server Name field. If you do not have an SQL Server, the local computer name appears instead. You can replace the default server name with the name of another server on which you intend to install the database, or with the name of a server on which a database you want to use already resides.







You have the option of installing MSDE from the Database Path Information screen (refer to page 159). If a dialog box appears that prompts you to start the SQL Server service, click Yes.

7. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Database Maintenance screen appears.









9. Click Next. The BlackBerry Database Path Information screen appears.


Complete the following steps:

� Confirm that the root directory of your SQL files location (as it appears in the Database Program Path field) is correct.



� If the correct directory path does not appear by default, click Browse to select the correct path from the Database Program Path dialog box, or type it in the Database Program Path field.

� Confirm that the directory of your SQL data store (as it appears in the Database Data Path field) is correct.

� If the correct directory path does not appear by default, click Browse to select the correct path from the Database Data Path dialog box, or type it in the Database Data Path field.

� If you installed SQL Server and it is detected by the InstallShield Wizard, the Install MSDE option does not appear. If you have not installed MSDE or SQL Server, you can click Install MSDE to run a silent installation at this point. A warning dialog box appears.


� Click Yes. A dialog box appears that enables you to select the location of MSDE on your local computer.


� Browse to the location that you want to use. Click OK. The InstallShield Wizard minimizes while MSDE is installed. The installation requires approximately three minutes.





11. In the Management MAPI Profile field, type the name of the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management administration service account, which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management service uses to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server. This name can be the same as or different from the MAPI profile and service account that you use for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If you type the name of a non-existent MAPI profile, you are prompted to create a new MAPI profile. Click Yes. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears. You can also select Create/Edit MAPI Profile to open the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box.








12. After both names appear underlined, click OK. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management MAPI Profile screen appears. Click Next.

Update or review BlackBerry User AdministrationThe BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation enables you to update or review BlackBerry User Administration if you selected that option. If you did not choose to update BlackBerry User Administration, proceed to page 157.

To create a MAPI profile for each BlackBerry administration mailbox that is associated with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server name in the BlackBerry Server Name field, and then type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration MAPI profile name in the Admin MAPI Profile field.

To add an existing MAPI profile, click Add to add the server and MAPI profile combination to the Server List. This adds the server name and its MAPI profile to the RemoteAdmin.txt file that is found in the BlackBerry User Administration folder after it is installed. The BlackBerry User Administration service reads this file when it starts. The file name and location are defined through a registry key.

If the MAPI profile does not yet exist or requires editing, click Create/Edit Profile. The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears.




4. You can continue to add servers and their MAPI profiles to the Server List. After you are finished, click Next.

Update or review Mobile Data ServiceThe BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software installation enables you to update or review Mobile Data Service at this point in the installation if you selected that option. If you did not choose to update Mobile Data Service, proceed to page 162.

4. In the Database Consistency Polling Frequency field, the default value of 24 (hours) appears. This frequency is the rate at which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management database is checked against the data in users� mailboxes.

� If you do not have BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installed, the Database Information screen appears.

8. In the Database Authentication section, choose the database authentication type predetermined by the database installation (Windows (trusted) for Windows NT Authentication or SQL Authentication).

� If you select SQL Authentication: in the SQL User Name field, accept the default user name (sa) or type a new user name; and, in the Password field, accept the default password (no password) or type a new password. The user name and password are used only to create the SQL database.

� If you select Windows (trusted): the SQL User Name field, and Password field are disabled (unavailable).

9. Click Next.

Note: If you do not want to install the database on the local computer (that is, if you change the server name to that of another computer on which you want to use a database), you cannot use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management InstallShield Wizard to install the database. You can manually install the database at any time following the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management install. Refer to "Creating a database after the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management installation (optional)" on page 116 for more information.




The rest of the update and review process is the same, regardless of the options that you are updating.

Chapter 11: Removing software

Removing BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration extensionsIf you previously used Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions to manage BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you should remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration extensions. You must remove the extensions AFTER you upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6.

Verify that you have exported all server information from the administration extensions and installed the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 before you remove the administration extensions.

1. Log in using an account with administrative privileges (typically, BESAdmin) on the local computer.

2. On the Start menu, select BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Uninstall Administration Extensions.

Note: Completing this procedure removes all defined BlackBerry Enterprise Servers from the routing group configuration.


Removing BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software


To remove ALL BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software, including any other tools, utilities, services, or documentation that is installed with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, complete the following steps:

5301 Startup errorSymptoms

When you try to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, a 5301 Windows error occurs.

What is the problem?

This error occurs in a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 environment under the following circumstances. Microsoft Outlook was removed from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer after Microsoft Exchange 5.5 (Service Pack 4) was installed. The removal of Microsoft Outlook interfered with the MAPI version that is required by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Solution

Reinstall Microsoft Exchange 5.5 (Service Pack 4).

5302 Windows error

SymptomsWhen you try to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, a 5302 Windows error occurs.

What is the problem?Several problems might cause this error:

Problem 1

The MAPI profile that is specified is incorrect.


5401 Windows error

Solution 1

Check the MAPI profile that is specified for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and verify that it is linked to a Windows NT account with Service Account Admin permissions. Also verify that the profile only contains the following services: Microsoft Exchange Server, Outlook Address Book, and Personal Address Book. Remove any other services, such as Internet Mail.

Problem 2

The account that was used to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is incorrect.

Solution 2

From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears. Double-click the Services icon. The Services window appears. Click Startup and verify that the Log On As section has the correct account selected for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service. This account should be the same one that was used to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server files.

5401 Windows error

SymptomsWhen you try to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service, a 5401 Windows error occurs.

What is the problem?Several problems might cause this error:

Problem 1

You have not added the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console.

Solution 1

Complete the procedure below.

1. In the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console, right-click the appropriate site/routing group.

2. Select New BlackBerry Server.



3. In the BlackBerry Servers System Info window, type the following system information:

� In the Server Name field, type the same server name that you used during the installation.

� In the SRP Identifier and SRP Authentication Key fields, type the appropriate information that is provided with the installation CD.

� In the Administration Mailbox field, click Select Mailbox to locate the mailbox that you set up for BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration.

4. After you complete all of the fields, click OK.

Problem 2

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server that you added is not the same as the one that you specified in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation.

Solution 2

Complete one of the following procedures:

Procedure A

1. At a command prompt, type regedit. The Registry Editor appears.

2. Browse to HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Servers\.

3. Double-click the Name key. The Edit String dialog box appears.

4. In the Value data field, type the name of the server that is located in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Properties window.

Procedure B

1. Open Microsoft Exchange Administrator.

2. From the Configuration container, open the BlackBerry Servers Properties window.

3. Click Remove Server. The current BlackBerry Enterprise Server is removed.

4. Click Add Server. Type the same server name that is listed in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Files installation in the Server Name field and complete the rest of the process.

Problem 3

The administration mailbox that you selected (in the Administration Mailbox field) when you added the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is incorrect.


No Service Name Error (5403 or 5404)

Solution 3

Complete the procedure below.

1. In the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management interface, right-click the site/routing group.

2. Click Remove Server to remove the current BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

3. Click Add Server. Type or select the correct Administration Mailbox name from the list (the mailbox that is linked to the Windows NT account that you used to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server).

No Service Name Error (5403 or 5404)Symptoms

When you try to proceed with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation, a 5403 or 5404 Windows error occurs.

What is the problem?

This error indicates that you typed an incorrect server name. The Microsoft Exchange Server name is often mistakenly typed instead of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server name.

Solution

Open the BlackBerry Server System Info window and verify that the correct BlackBerry Enterprise Server name appears in the Server Name field.

No routing groups found in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console

SymptomsWhen you open BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management in a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 environment, no routing groups appear, and the following error message appears in the debug log:[10132] Unable to open LDAP://servername (err = 0xXXXXXXXX))

Error codes in the debug log for this issue are 0x8007203a and 0x80072027



What is the problem?Check for any or all of the following possible causes for this problem:

Problem 1

The correct permissions have not been set.

Solution1

Verify that you have set the following permissions, if they are required in your system environment:

� Local administrator permissions on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service computer in Microsoft Exchange 5.5

� Microsoft Exchange View Only Administrator (minimum) access is required at the Administrative Groups level in Microsoft Exchange 2000 to be able to read from the Active Directory.

Problem 2

The correct LDAP directory defaults are not set on the server.

Solution 2

Verify the correct LDAP default settings at the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 site level and server level.

Site level

1. Open Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator.

2. In the left pane, at the site level, select Configuration > Protocols.

3. In the right pane, double-click LDAP (Directory) Site Defaults. The LDAP Directory Site Defaults Properties window appears.

4. On the General tab, verify that the value in the Port number field is 389. You can change the LDAP port value in Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator to prevent a port conflict with Active Directory, but you must change the LDAP port value in BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management window Advanced tab. Refer to "Configuring visual settings" on page 90 for more information.

5. On the General tab, verify that Enable protocol is selected.

6. On the Authentication tab, verify that Windows NT Challenge/Response is selected.

7. Click OK to accept any changes.


No routing groups found in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console

8. Reboot the Microsoft Exchange Server for the changes to take effect.

Server level

1. Open Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator.

2. In the left pane, at the site level, select Configuration > Servers.

3. In the left pane, expand the Servers list. Click a server.

4. In the right pane, double-click Protocols.

5. In the right pane, double-click LDAP (Directory) Settings. The LDAP (Directory) Settings Properties window appears.

If the Use site defaults for all properties option is selected, you do not need to complete the remaining steps, because the correct values will default from the site settings you already verified.

6. On the General tab, verify that the value in the Port number field is 389. You can change the LDAP port value in Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator to prevent a port conflict with Active Directory, but you must change the LDAP port value in BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management window Advanced tab. Refer to "Configuring visual settings" on page 90 for more information.

7. On the General tab, verify that Enable protocol is selected.

8. On the Authentication tab, verify that Windows NT Challenge/Response is selected.

9. Click OK to accept any changes.

Reboot the Microsoft Exchange Server for the changes to take effect.

Problem 3

If you are using only Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Servers in a Windows 2000 environment, you might need to create or modify an existing Exchange55 key in the registry.

If you are using only Microsoft Exchange 5.5 servers in a Windows 2000 environment, you may need to create or modify the existing Exchange55 key in the registry before you can see your routing groups in BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management.

1. At the command prompt, type regedit. The Registry Editor window appears.

2. Browse to HKey_Local_Machine/Software/Research In Motion/BlackBerry Enterprise Server/Management/.



3. Complete one of the following options:

� In the right pane, if the Exchange55 registry key appears, double-click it.

Why can I not generate a license key?If you remove Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions before you upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 from an earlier installation, you cannot generate a license key. Remove the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions only after you upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6. If you have already removed the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions before upgrading, you must obtain a new license key. Contact the source from which you obtained your BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software for further information.

What is the recommended database configuration for BlackBerry Enterprise Server?The recommended database configuration is one database for each organization. Using multiple databases introduces the risk of having a BlackBerry Enterprise Server on more than one database with a different IT policy applied in each case.

When upgrading, you must upgrade the database and all services to the same BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software version in a single time frame. Upgrade the database first. If you do not upgrade all services at the same time, using the upgraded database with services running an older version will cause problems.

I upgraded from BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1 for Microsoft Exchange. Why can’t I remove the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 administration extensions?When you upgraded from BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1 or earlier, WinBBinstaller.exe was automatically removed. I have installed the attachment service on the server. Why do attachments not appear on the user’s BlackBerry handheld?If you have installed the attachment service option, and the user is properly configured to use the attachment service (Refer to "Attachment service" on page 24 for more information) start the BlackBerry Attachment Server service before you start the BlackBerry Server Servername service. Otherwise, users cannot view attachments on the handheld.



How can I disable the attachment service after I have installed it?To fully disable the attachment service, it is insufficient to stop the BlackBerry Attachment Service through Windows Services. If you stop the service, Open Attachment still appears on the user�s handheld menu when an attachment is received on the handheld, and if the user clicks Open Attachment, an error results.

To prevent Open Attachment from appearing in the handheld menu, remove all supported attachments from the Format List field in the BlackBerry Attachment Service configuration tool. Refer to �Modifying connector configuration� in your BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange Administration Guide for more information.

To prevent the attachment service connecting to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, modify the installation by removing the Attachment Connector on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Refer to "Removing the attachment connector only" on page 182 for more information.

Why do I get a '500' connection timeout error when I try to view web pages on my BlackBerry Browser?The 500 connection timeout error occurs when the BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Data Service is unable to resolve the URL that the handheld requests, or when the handheld is not in good wireless coverage. From the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, verify that you can ping www.blackberry.com. If you are using an HTTP proxy, verify that the proxy is defined correctly in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console's Mobile Data Service Properties window.

The error might also be caused by a port conflict on the server. From the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console's Mobile Data Service Properties window, review the ports that Mobile Data Service is configured to use, stop the Mobile Data Service, and run a netstat -a command at the command prompt to verify that no other service is trying to use those ports.

Why am I prompted to choose a profile when I start BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management?If a Choose Profile dialog box appears when you first start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console, the MAPIProfile entry does not exist in the registry. (This issue might occur if you are not logged in as a user service account with a MAPI profile.) If a MAPI profile exists, it should be stored in the registry as HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Research In Motion/BlackBerry Enterprise Server/Management/MAPIProfile.


Solution

If a MAPI profile does exist, you can select it in the Choose Profile dialog box from Select Name drop-down list. Click OK.

1. At the command prompt, type regedit. The Registry Editor window appears.

Wireless email reconciliation is enabled, but users are not seeing immediate synchronization of changes between the handheld and the desktop. Why not?If the user is on a server that is automatically enabled for wireless email reconciliation support and the user has upgraded the handheld to a version that supports wireless email reconciliation, changes made to messages on the user�s handheld are reflected on the user�s desktop within a short period of time. If there are pending changes on the user�s handheld that require immediate reconciliation, the user can reconcile the email messages from the handheld manually using the Wireless Reconcile option.

How do I troubleshoot Mobile Data Service problems?If users have problems using the Mobile Data Service, complete the following steps to diagnose and fix the problem.

1. Verify that you started or restarted the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service after enabling Mobile Data Service at the server level.

2. Verify that the user has the Desktop IPPP service book entries (in the Options application, click Service Book, and look for entries called Browser Config and IPPP).

If these service books are not present, contact the network operator. On the Java-enabled handhelds, the IPPP service book must be provisioned as part of the handheld registration process. (Refer to "Handheld compatibility" on page 20 for more information about supported networks, handheld versions, and handheld and desktop software versions.)

3. Verify that the Mobile Data Service is running. You can view information about the Mobile Data Service in one of two ways:

� Check the log files in the Mobile Data Service installation directory.

� Open a Browser and go to http://<MDS_hostname>:<web_server_port>/

4. Verify that Mobile Data Service is enabled on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

5. Verify that the user is on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on which you installed and enabled the Mobile Data Service, and that the user is enabled for Mobile Data Service.

6. Verify that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is using the correct MAPI profile for the user.



Why do using filters, using encryption keys, and replying to messages often fail?

Symptoms

� Filters are not being applied to messages: the filters that are listed in the Redirector Settings window of the user�s BlackBerry Desktop Software do not appear to function

� Encryption key problems: users update their keys at the desktop and still receive encryption failure messages. Handhelds only function if they are plugged in at the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (mailbox extension) and have Microsoft Exchange keys

� Forwarding, Replying with text, and More features frequently fail: features are failing when users have not deleted or moved a message from the Inbox

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server does not work for users (mostly laptop) who use Personal Folders as their main message store.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server monitors the user's MAPI store on the Microsoft Exchange Server. Personal Folders are a local MAPI store that resides on the user�s computer (or laptop). The server does not have access to MAPI stores on individual computers.

The BlackBerry Desktop Manager stores encryption keys and filter configuration in the default MAPI message store. If the user�s computer is configured to use Personal Folders, the above symptoms might appear. When Personal Folders are used (and MAPI is configured to deliver mail to Personal Folders) and Outlook is running, mail is moved (and deleted) from the Microsoft Exchange Server's store to the local Personal Folder store. When the BlackBerry Enterprise Server tries to find the original message in the Microsoft Exchange Server's message store when the user performs a Forward, Reply with Text, or More, the message is no longer there; it has been moved to the user's computer.

Solution

The user should migrate from using Personal Folders to using Offline Folders.

Personal Folders is a legacy feature of Microsoft Mail. The main reason people use Personal Folders is to retain a local copy of their mail. After users disconnect from the network, they can still read their email messages (therefore Personal Folders usage is more common among laptop users). This is why Offline Folders (.ost files) were introduced in Microsoft Outlook. With Offline Folders, mail is synchronized (in other words, replicated) between the Microsoft Exchange Server message store and the local message store. This synchronization provides the benefit of local copies for offline viewing and centralized storage, so that the IT department can backup the company's mail on a regular basis. Because mail is left on the Microsoft Exchange Server with Offline Folders, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server redirects email properly.


Why has this laptop user's handheld not received messages since the laptop was last connected to the LAN?If the user is running the BlackBerry Desktop Software (with BlackBerry Enterprise Server client) on a laptop that is connected to a LAN, and the handheld is connected to the laptop, the user must exit the BlackBerry Desktop Manager before disconnecting the notebook from the LAN.

If the user does not disconnect the handheld from the computer (or exit the BlackBerry Desktop Manager) before disconnecting the laptop from the LAN, the server is not notified that the handheld is no longer connected to the computer. Therefore, if the Disable email redirection to handheld while in cradle option is enabled, no email is forwarded to the handheld because the server believes that the handheld is still connected to the computer.

Solution

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server removes the In-cradle status automatically within 10 minutes if it does not detect the BlackBerry Desktop Manager in use. You can also clear the In-cradle status manually.

1. Open BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management. The Tree view expands automatically and displays a list of BlackBerry Server site/routing groups.

2. Expand a BlackBerry Server site/routing group item. Select a server name.

3. From the User Name list, double-click a user name. The user�s Properties window appears.

4. Click Clear-In-Cradle. The In-cradle flag is removed and email redirection resumes.

Why are some messages not forwarded to the user’s handheld?There are a few reasons why messages are not forwarded to a user�s handheld.

� Global redirection filters are applied to conditions for which the user has defined filters.

� If users are hidden in the Global Address List, and they have installed the default BlackBerry Desktop Manager filter To & BCC, the filter fails when users are BCC�d because the users cannot be found in the Global Address List. Administrators are not able to email All Points Bulletin messages to hidden users if they have the Default filter enabled. To resolve this problem, send PIN-based All Points Bulletin messages to hidden users.



Why do users’ handhelds stay at Initializing after they are added or deleted?There are a few possible reasons why a user�s status reads Initializing after the user is added to or deleted from a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

� After you add a user to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the user�s status becomes Initializing by default, and remains Initializing until the user connects the handheld to the desktop computer.

� When you remove a user from a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the user�s status becomes Initializing by default, and remains Initializing until the user connects the handheld to the desktop computer.

� To change a user�s status after they are added to or deleted from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service must be running to change a user�s status after they are added to or deleted from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. From the Control Panel window, open Services and verify that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server status reads Started.

What happens to the users when you delete a BlackBerry Enterprise Server?If you delete a BlackBerry Enterprise Server from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management computer, all of its users are removed. The users are reassigned automatically as desktop redirector users, but they must connect to the desktop redirector before email redirection occurs.

If you delete only the database, you can still restore users by re-adding the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on which the users are listed, because the users' information is stored in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account mailbox.

Why is the server status Disabled?The SRP Connection is present, but your BlackBerry Enterprise Server is not running.

Solution

1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel, open Services and verify that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server status reads Started.

If the service is running, your second point of verification is the Windows NT Event Viewer.

2. Open the Windows NT Event Viewer.


3. From the Log menu, click Application Log, and scan for BlackBerry logs that contain error messages (particularly those pertaining to misnamed MAPI profiles).

You can also check your debug log for any recent BlackBerry Enterprise Server entries.

Why is the server status SRP Connection Down?While the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is running, the Service Relay Protocol (the BlackBerry link to the wireless network) is disconnected.

Solution

Verify that the Domain Name System (DNS) is set up properly on the server computer. The system might not be able to resolve or find SRP HOST (indicated in italics because the value is variable; refer to the label on your installation CD for the correct SRP Host value), which is the Network Address Node that is specified during installation. You can run the BBSRPTEST utility to determine where the connection process is failing.

1. Copy BBSRPTEST.exe to the computer that is running the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

2. At a command prompt, run the BBSRPTEST.exe with no additional parameters. The utility reads the settings from the registry and attempts to connect to the SRP host server.

The following message should appear:

� Attempting to connect to srp host (IP Address), port 3101 Successful

where srp host and IP Address are indicated in italics because the values are variable; refer to the label on your installation CD for the correct SRP Host value and IP Address.

You might see one of the following messages instead:

� gethostbyname() failed for name srp host: error code = 11001This message indicates a configuration problem on your computer. Your computer is unable to look up the SRP host server's name. 11001 means that the name is not found.

� connect() failed: error code = 10060This message indicates that no one is answering the connection request, or the firewall "swallowed" the connection request. 10060 means a timeout occurred.

� connect() failed: error code = 10061This message indicates that the connection was refused; either the SRP host server is not running or the firewall prevented the connection from going through. 10061 means the connection was refused.

� “recv(): connection lost”This message indicates that the connection was broken (by the firewall or proxy) before the



test program could handshake with the SRP host server. The error code that is listed is the Winsock error code.

Why is wireless calendar synchronization not working?If Microsoft Outlook is installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server computer, wireless calendar synchronization does not work. The versions of CDO.dll and MAPI that are included in the Microsoft Outlook package are unable to support wireless calendar synchronization. To perform wireless calendar synchronization, BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 requires the correct versions of the CDO.dll and MAPI files. (Refer to "System requirements" on page 28 for more information.)

Solution

1. Remove Microsoft Outlook.

2. Verify that CDO.dll is re-registered: from the command line, change to c:\winnt\system32 and execute the following command:

regsvr32 cdo.dll

3. Reconfigure the MAPI version: Microsoft Exchange Administrator installs its copy of the MAPI32.dll file into the c:\winnt\system32 directory. After Microsoft Outlook is installed, it renames that file to MAPI32x.dll and installs its own MAPI32.dll file.

4. Rename MAPI32.dll to MAPI32.dll.outlook (or another name as desired), and copy MAPI32x.dll to MAPI32.dll.


How do I change the attachment service default port settings?The table below shows the attachment service default port settings and the registry location where you can modify the settings. If you do not have a port conflict, retain the default settings.

I changed a routing group name in Microsoft Exchange 5.5 but the change is not visible in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console? Why not?When in Microsoft Exchange 5.5 you make a change to a routing group name, it is not sufficient to refresh the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console. You must shut down the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console and then reopen it for the name change to take effect.
