• Martin Luther King Jr was an African American clergyman who advocated social change through non-violent means

• A powerful speaker who and a man of a great spiritual strength he shaped the American civil rights movement in 1950s

~Black history for Michael~

• A Michael Jackson tribute marked the beginning of Merton’s Black History Month celebrations.

• Young people danced to some of Jackson’s greatest hits at the South Meacham Community Centre last week in memory of his contribution to pop music and contemporary culture.

George.W.Carver• At ten-twelve years old,

carver sought to formalize his education

• The nearest school being unwilling to educate black children

• Carver instead was sent to a black school some twelve miles away in Neosho Missouri in was left in the care of black family Andrew and Mariah Watkins
