On the shores of a northern lake,
unspoiled and remote, lies
Blachford lake lodge and
conference resort
Blachford is not just a place.
It is an experience.
Blachford Lake Lodge is a multi-season, fly-in lodge
established in 1981 and proudly owner-operated. The
lodge sits at the west end of remote Blachford Lake, the
only facility on the 17 kilometre (12 mile) long lake. On
site are a main lodge with five guest rooms and several
rustic, but comfortable, log cabins, that together house
approximately 35 guests. In the main lodge is a central
gathering/dining room, a number of lounges, a couple of
viewing decks and an outdoor hot tub spa. Also on site are
a sauna and a large tipi. The lodge has a dedicated staff and
interpretive guiding service is available .
The north is a school and its lessons are unlike
any you will ever experience. Be a student of northern
Aboriginal cultures. Learn traditional bush skills of the
boreal forest. Gain insight into various activities such as
making baskets, beaded crafts and smoked fish. Know
that from time before memory, this has been a wilderness
inhabited by First Peoples in a homeland shared with
caribou, wolf, beaver and eagle. Immerse yourself in
traditional Dene legends in the flickering tipi glow. Hear
the beat of the drum.
Blachford Lake Lodge and Conference Resort is
located north of Great Slave Lake, about 95 kilometres
(60 air miles) southeast of Yellowknife, the capital city of
the Northwest Territories. Travel to Yellowknife by the
Mackenzie Highway from Edmonton or commercial jet
from many of the major centres in the United States
and Canada.
From Yellowknife to Blachford Lake Lodge is a short
20 minute flight by charter float plane in the summer and
ski-equipped bush plane in the winter. Your adventure
starts when you board one of the bush planes that played
an historic role in opening up the north.

Be a student of our history. Learn the traditions of
the north and trace the path of its people through our
unique collection of books, maps, historical photos, tools
of the early trappers and samples of local handmade crafts.
Explore the site of an old prospector’s cabin. Glimpse
intriguing northern vignettes that chronicle life in a bygone
time.
Be it the dazzle of sundogs in a wintery wonderland, or
the hint of a midnight sun summer dream, the spell of the
north will enchant you. Go solo, together with friends or en
famille. Traverse endless bush trails on a toboggan behind
a team of huskies. Paddle a canoe or kayak through crystal
clear, aqua-marine waters. Or build a quinzhee snow hut
and sleep out under twinkling stars. It’s all magical.
Whatever the activity, whatever the season, the
north’s majesty surrounds Blachford Lake Lodge and
embraces you in its spirit.

Fish the bounty of Blachford Lake and thrill
to the feel of action on your line. A haven for
unforgettable fishing, our pristine waters yield an
abundance of northern pike, lake trout, pickerel/
walleye, and whitefish. Scout around a multitude of
bays, islands and
shore lines. Explore
the lake's many
moods.
At Blachford Lake Lodge the land is our home.
Our only neighbours are the wind, the water and the
trees. There are no clocks, no schedules, no rules – you
determine the activity. Sunbathe on the shore’s edge, take
a rejuvenating sauna, challenge yourself to a vigorous ski,
or revel in the thrill of the catch. Do nothing, or do it all.
Let your senses come alive. Listen to the primordial
call of the loon. Inhale the cleansing fragrance of spruce
boughs that carpet our tipi. Savour a shore lunch of
freshly caught trout. Feast your eyes on the northern
vista in all its glory and drink in its beauty. Venture into
the heart of taiga wilderness.

lodge is a careful blend of contemporary
rustic charm, yet with all the modern comforts. In this

Our handcrafted log cabins bring you back to a simpler
time. Savour fine wine and gourmet meals that boast a
northern flavour and daily there is the aroma of fresh baked
breads. After dusk, glowing ice candles illumine pathways
and a perfect day concludes as you nestle into a cozy down
duvet, per chance to dream.

Nature’s aesthetics and our reflective atmosphere
promote camaraderie and a renewed sense of
purpose, ideal for conference meetings and retreats.
We carefully synthesize natural country charm with all
the necessary modern conveniences, creating the best of
both worlds. Leave the distractions of city life behind,
for the most productive meetings ever. Team-building
and communications take on a whole new meaning.
Gatherings have a focused yet timeless quality. Enjoy
the fellowship of others or just get away by yourself.
The northern lights, aurora borealis, are one of
natures greatest gifts to the north. They are perhaps the
most spectacular natural phenomenon on earth. Here,
under the aurora oval, you have a front row seat. Soak
in a bubbling outdoor hot tub spa and await the evenings
display. Nothing can rival the experience of watching the
aurora, awash in vibrant colours, dance across the sky to
speak to the moon in mystical voices.
