HistoryOwner and design specialist, Andrew Hauck has an extensive history in the furniture industry. After completing his Associate in Arts Degree from Grand Rapids Community College, he began to put his skills to the test at a local granite fabrication shop. While working at Top of the World Granite, inc, Andrew learned how to program and operate large automated machines that would cut and polish many types of stone for residential and commercial applications.
Looking to advance his skills, Andrew then went to work for Grand Rapids Chair. He learned how to edit “g-codes” at the machine to manipulate programs to have a different end result. Andrew also became the shift’s lead person and completed online courses for business management at the University of Phoenix. Andrew loves to learn ways to advance himself in the industry. He couldn’t refuse the opportunity to work closer to
home and operate new machinery at Nucraft Furniture Co. It was his job to align veneer flitches in a long run so the end result would look seamless- for example, a conference table. It was common to have a fifteen foot conference table with exotic veneer. It was his job to cut out each piece so that when all put together, it would look like one. His main job was to cut out the shapes but would also shape the edges with large cutters.
Creative Merchandising Systems, inc was hiring someone to take over their CNC department. This was a perfect opportunity for him, especially since he had taken several management courses through University of Phoenix. He began learning the equipment- a Holzher panel cnc and a Biesse panel cnc. Both of these machines cut nested programs out of sheet goods to be sanded and assembled off line.
After only six months of training. Andrew took over the department and began creating processes to improve efficiency and productivity within. This impressed management and a short while later, Andrew was promoted to the engineering department which was a long term goal. He became one of four engineers that designed three dimensional goods for commercial entities ranging from cabinetry to retail fixtures.
As time went by and Andrew’s love for advancing grew. He decided to take on a new role at Metro Engineering. Here, he learned how to program, machine, and handle different materials such as steel, aluminum, ren board, plastic, and fiber glass. He used basic trigonometry to rotate parts in space to machine all angles of the part so the end result would look flawless.

It should come as no surprise that the desire for excellence would eventually lead him to start his own company. As a machinist, he has learned many ways to operate efficiently and effectively. As a designer, he created many products that are visually appealing, transportable, and easy to install. Benjamin Lee LLC was created with the purpose of designing exceptional goods that exceed the client’s vision. The name, Benjamin Lee, was derived from the middle names of he and his wife, Rebecca.

As you can see, the hutch was designed
in seven sub-assemblies. The main base
is constructed of four laminated 4/4
lumber and pocketed out for angle steel
to give additional support so a middle
foot would not be necessary. It is held
together with knock down bolts and
screws to be disassembled and
relocated with ease in the future. This
unit stands 91 inches tall and 88.5
inches wide. It was constructed of solid
lumber, 1/4” glass, and custom
homemade doors pulls made of wood
and solid aluminum.
