Bishop Elementary School Leaving School
Early & Attendance Policy
Every minute of the school day is crucial. We strongly discourage early check-outs before the instructional day ends. Students often do not get the closure to the day. However, we understand different circumstances arise requiring your child to leave early. Students must be signed out in the office prior to leaving the school grounds. Please have your child to school on time!
Please have your child to school on time!
For security purposes we ask that you do not go directly to your child’s classroom before reporting to the office. . If your child is absent, please call the school office that day. If you were unable to call the office, please send a note with your child on the day he/she returns to school with the reason for the absence. If for some unavoidable reason your child will be absent for a week or more, please see your child’s teacher. The first bell rings at 8:12. Students are to be in their seats when the tardy bell rings at 8:15. If your child gets to school after 8:15, a parent/guardian must sign the child in at the school office for a tardy slip.
If a student is more than 30 minutes tardy, that is considered truancy and may result in a referral to the SARB board. Unexcused tardiness and absences will affect the citizenship grade. Students with frequent absences and/or tardiness may be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB). If you receive a pre-SARB letter, please make an appointment with the assistant principal to discuss attendance patterns before a SARB hearing is necessary.

American Heart Assocaition Pedatric CPR, First Aid and AED Class On Thursday, April 27 Amanda Miloradich, Health/Disabilities Manager, BIHS and Majoree Neer, Public Health Nurse/Director of Toiyabe Public Health taught CPR, First Aid and AED class at BIHS. The class attendees included BIHS Parents and Early Head start Transitioning families. Thank you everyone for your wonderful class partiscipations and attendance. The Head Start/Community Room has an Autmated External Defibulator (AED.) The AED is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. The funding for the AED became availbe through a Emergency
Services Grant from the Office of Head Start.
In the BIHS Classrooms The learning topic for April is “All About Bugs.” The colors of the month are yellow and grey. The shape of the month is Oval. Opposites are being learned and the character education is honesty. The community worker is a scientist and the safety topic is Insect Safety. The BIHS children will be reviewing tooth brushing and hand washing. Healthy foods are an ongoing monthly education topic.
Positive Guidance Techniques for
April Reinforce adjacent behavior. When positive
attention is given to children behaving
appropriately, other children will imitate the
appropriate behavior.
Cue behavior: Consistently using environmental
cues will signal when transitions need to occur, e.g.
turn the music on, switch a light, or ring a bell.
Use the most strategic positions for supervising. Sit
down in a chair when possible; be alert of the total
classroom. Do not turn your back to a large number
of children just to be with a few.

When you use a Rainbow as a nutritional guide you are ensuring that your kids are benefiting from a wide spectrum of vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are provided by each color group. Eating all five color groups every day is an excellent way to keep your kids healthy and feeling their best!
Here is a very basic run down on each color group and how it helps our bodies:
Red: Very heart healthy and gives strength support to our joints! Orange: A great source of Vitamin C. The orange group helps keep our eyes healthy!
Yellow: This group is good for our skin and helps our digestive system! Green: Helps our entire body and strengthens our immune systems, which means fewer
colds! Purple: Purple/blue foods are excellent for our brains! They help us with our memory and also help keep some cancers away! Colleen Bezeau, Editor & Publisher-Okanagan Child Magazine

Lana the Iguana Salsa Class Thank you to all of the children and families that attended the LANA the iguana salsa making classes at BIHS. We sure had a great time chopping fresh cilantro from the BIHS Children’s Garden and other fresh vegetables. Homemade chips were enjoyed with homemade salsa.
