Though Dr. Stephenson is not quite the man to fill so eminent a position, no one with a grain of sense can say that he is not far superior to Dr. Whitmore in his medical status. Dr. Stephenson’s abilities have obtained for him the degree of Bachelor of Medicine of London, as well as Licentiate of the College of Physicians, and member of the College of Surgeons : no mean distinctions these for a medical and scientific man. At all events, there are twenty-four ves- trymen who had the good sense to accord him their support, and we strongly advise Dr. Stephenson to go to the poll and claim the election on the score of Dr. Whitmore’s ineligibility as a candidate, as having been a vestryman within the last six months.-St. Pancras News. DEATH OF INSPECTOR GENERAL OF HOSPITALS MORGAN THOMAS.—The above distinguished Peninsular officer died at his residence, 2, Queen’sterrace, Woolwich-common, on Satur- day last, at the advanced age of eighty years. He entered the army as an assistant-surgeoa July 14, 1804, and served the campaign in Italy in 1805, including the occupation of Sicily. He was also at the descent on the coast of Calabria, at the battle of Maida, and siege of Scylla Castle in 1806. He after- wards accompanied the expedition to Sweden, under Sir John Moore, and subsequently in Portugal and Spain, up to the re- treat to Corunna. He obtained the rank of surgeon November 11, 1811, and in 1815 was present at the capture of Guada- loupe. He was promoted to Assistant-Inspector, July 14, 1836; Deputy Inspector- General, Jan. 16, 1864; and Inspector- General, April 1, 1850.
