Directions: 1.Cuttwochipboardpieces6¾”x4¾”,two4¾”x5¼”andone6¾”x5¼”.Arrangeasshown and join with ½” or wider double-sided adhesive tape, making sure to leave 1 ⁄16”ofspacingwhenjoiningthepieces.

2.Cuta7¾”x6¼”pieceof Bird Song and score ½”onallfoursides.Cut

away the corners and add double-sided tape to

thetabsasshown.

3.Peeluptheadhesivetape strips from the chipboardunitonly.(Not from the paper yet.)Placeadhesiveinthe center panel of the chipboard and adhere the paper from Step 2, leaving the adhesive stripsinplace.

4.Flipthechipboardaround so the paper side isfacedown.Onebyone,

peel up the adhesive strips and adhere to

chipboard walls in a 90 degree fashion asshown.Thisistheoutsideofthebox.

5.Fortheinside,addmore adhesive tape to the adjoining panels thenscorefirmlyinbetween the 1 ⁄16” spacing using a scoring stylus or bonefolder.

6.Cuta7¾”x6¼”pieceof Longevity and score ½”onallfoursides.Cut

away the corners and add double-sided tape to the tabs and the back of thepaper.Adheretothe

innerareaasshown.

7.Fliptheboxovertotheoutside.Cuttwo6¾”x4¾”andtwo5¼”x4¾”piecesofJoy Luck and adhere to the outerwalls.(Rememberto watch the pattern direction since this is goingtobeabox.)

8.Fliptheboxovertotheinside.Cuttwo6¾”x4¾”andtwo5¼”x

4¾”piecesofHarmony and adhere to the inner

walls.Setaside.

9.Forthelid,cutone7” x 5 ½”, two 7” x 1½”, and two 1½” x 5½” chipboardpieces.Joinwith adhesive tape with 1 ⁄16” of spacing between panels.Thisistheoutsideofthelid.

10.Peeltheadhesivetape up and adhere a 7” x 5½” piece of Tranquility to the top ofthelid.Formthelidby folding down the side walls, taping them with cleartapeasshown.

11.Cutfour7”x1½”strips from Tranquility.

Adhere a strip to theshortsidesfirstand wrap around to longsides.(Thiswill

strengthenthecorners.)Finish by adhering the

last two strips along the longsidesforafinishedlook.(notshowninphoto)

12.Cutfour2”x17 ⁄16” pieces of Pearls of Wisdom, score in half at 1” and adhere into the fourcornersofthelid.




13.Cutone67 ⁄8” x 53⁄8” piece of Pearls of Wisdom.Cuttwo67 ⁄8” x 115 ⁄16” and two 115 ⁄16” x 53⁄8” pieces of Pearls of Wisdom.Scoreonesideofeachat½”asshown.These will be the inner lid’ssidewalls.

14.Adherethesidewallpiecesintothelidfirst

then the larger piece intothecenter.

15.Fussycutfourfansfrom Pearls of Wisdom, making sure to form 90 degrees on each as shownbelow.

16.Cuttwo7”x¼”andtwo53⁄8” x ¼”borderstripsfrom Longevity and adhere to top of lid, then adhere fussy cutfanstocorners.Adhere the large chipboard element to the center and decorate with flowersandleaves.

(Tip:cutsomewirestemsfromtheflowers,twistaround a thin paint brush handle to make coils and adherewiththicktackygluearoundleaves.)

17.Adhereachipboardbutton and two small chipboardcircles.Set

lidasidetodry.

18.Tocreatethesecond layer in

your explosion box, cut three 6” x 4½” and two 4½” x 4½”

piecesofchipboard.Join together with

½” double-sided tape with 1 ⁄16” of

spacing between panels.Place

adhesive onto the centerasshown.

19.Peelupthejoiningadhesivetapeonly.Cut two 6” x 4 ½” and two 4½” x 4½” pieces of Enlightened and adheretoouterpanels.

20.Cuttwo6”x5” and two 5” x

4½” pieces of Good Fortune.Score½”on

one side of each as shown.

21.Flipoverthechipboard unit from Step 19 and adhere papers from Step 20, then peel up the adhesive tape on the back and adhere this unit into the center portion of the inside of the box.Pressfirmlyforastronghold.




22.Tocreatethethird layer in your explosion box, cut one 51 ⁄8”x35 ⁄8”, two 51 ⁄8”x4¼”andtwo4¼”x35 ⁄8” pieces ofchipboard.Jointogether in the same fashion as previously.

23.Peelupthejoiningadhesivetapeonly.

Cut two 51 ⁄8”x4¼”andtwo4¼”x35 ⁄8” pieces

of Cherry Blossom and adhere to outer panels

asshown.

24.Cuttwo51 ⁄8” x 4¾”andtwo35 ⁄8” x4¾”piecesofEndless Spring and score ½” on one side ofeach.Flipoverthe chipboard unit and adhere to outer panelsasshown.

25.Peeluptheadhesive tape on

the back and adhere this unit into the

center portion of the previouslayer.Press

firmly.

26.Showninnextimage:Createahingesystemforadditional pages, cut an 11½” x 4½” piece of Joy Luck andscorealongthelongedgeasfollows:¼”,¾”,1¼”,1½”,2”,2½”,2¾”,3¼”,3¾”,4”,4½”,5”,5¼”,5¾”,6¼”,6½”,7”,7½”,7¾”,8¼”,8¾”,9”,9½”,10”,10¼”,10¾”,and11¼”.Foldsothateachpairof½”spacingcreatesamountain,leavingeach¼”spacingflat.

27.Adherethe½”mountainsclosed.You should be left with nine ½” tall hingeswith¼”flatspacing between each.

28.Placeadhesiveon the back of the

hinge unit and adhere into the

center of your box as shown.Pressfirmly.

29.Createpages for your hinge unit by cutting the following 4½” x 8” each: two Shanghai Girls, two Longevity, two Bird Song, two Pearls

of Wisdom, and one Tranquility.Scoreeachin half at 4” and create a stack in the order showninphoto.

30.Foldthescoredpages in half, open out and place adhesive on the entire back side.Adhereontothehinge unit, one by one, straddling the ½” hinges asyougo.




31.Onceallyourpagesare adhered, fold back and forth several times and burnish with a bone folder to loosen up and condition themtofoldeasily.

32.Decorateyourpages,followingthephotosforthethreeright-handpanels.'Happiness'tagfromTranquility,3¼”x3¼”fromJoy Luck, cut-apart from Shanghai Girls,and3½”x4”fromHarmony.Addchipboardtags,circlesandbuttons.

33.Fortheleft-handpages, repeat the cutting process but add a sticker label to the topmost panel as shownabove.

34.Forthetoppages,working from the back

tofront:5”x3½”from Harmony and chipboard tag, then tag cut-apart from

Tranquility.

35.4½”x3¼”fromTranquility and chipboardtag.

36.4”x3”fromEnlightened.Addchipboard square and stickerborder.

37-39.Forthebottompages, working back

to front, repeat the cutting process and add

chipboardasshown.Continue adorning the hinge pages with small

stickers, in the upper cornersorasdesired.

Asafinishingtouch,tiea12”lengthoftwineorthinribbon through the oval chipboard tag and adhere to the front facing portion of the box’s lid as shown in the mainphotoofthecompletedproject.

and tie a pretty ribbon around the

envelope to hold itclosed.Attacha chipboard tag

1.Cutan8”x8”square of Cherry Blossom and bring up the bottom of the paper to the top edge and press at the sides only.Donotcreateahardfoldline.Justmark the sides with ashortfold.

2.Openoutthepaper.Bringupthebottom of the paper

to the side marks you just created and press at the

ends only, just to mark the sides

onceagain.




3.Openoutthepaperand fold up the bottom to the nearest side marks you just created fromStep2.Thistime,burnish across the fold linewithabonefolder.

4.Withtheprevious fold still folded, fold up to

thefirstsidemarksfrom Step 1 and

burnish well with a bonefolder.

5.Noticethemarkedline on the right and left edge.Youshouldseeafold mark as indicated bythearrow.

6.Folddownthe paper to that marked

fold and burnishwell.

7.Openupthetopflapandfold up the two lower corners to meet up with the paper edge as shown, then burnish.

8.Foldintheleftsideso it forms a mitered

cornerasshown.Burnishwell.

9.RepeatStep8ontherightside.Burnishwell.

10.Foldinthetopcorners toward each

other until they meet andburnishwell.

11.Foldandtuckthe top portion into the bottom portion to secure the envelopeclosed.
