If you missed the First World War, then this is your opportunity to take a step back in time. Join us at the historic style buildings of the Military Aviation Museum, located at the Virginia Beach Airport, as we recognize the centennial of the 1st World War. Go with us on a journey to the dawn of aerial combat and discover where the term dogfight originated.

The museum owns and displays dozens of aircraft from the First and Second World Wars and many will crowd the sky above for this weekend.

Triplanes Features:

Watch many of our rarely seen warbirds in flight. We take all the proper measures to make sure our planes are flight ready.

Join us in our Oktoberfest Tent and Beer Garden, where a selection of inspired food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Enjoy playing carnival games of the era, horse drawn hayrides, and other fun family activities

You can get a firsthand feel of what it was like in WWI. Visit and talk with re-enactors from both the Allied and Central Powers.

Watch skilled modelers fly their remote controlled (RC) vintage biplanes through mock aerial dogfights and aerobatics that their full-size brethren no longer perform.

Enjoy entertainment throughout the day from the First World War and Roaring 20s.

It was a conflict that began in June of 1914 with the assassination of the heir to the throne of Austria. This triggered hostilities that drew all of Europe into the War to End All Wars. Just less than a dozen years after the invention of the first frail airplane to lift into the sky of kitty Hawk, NC, young men were jousting over the trenches of France in primitive wood and fabric aeroplanes.

If you missed the First World War, then this is the time to return and experience only the best parts of it. Come to relive these times on the first weekend of October and experience these early days of aviation. Hear the wind whistling through the bracing wires of biplanes and smell the burnt oil coming from rotary engines. Go with us on a journey to the dawn of aerial combat and discover where the term dogfight originated. The museum owns and displays dozens of aircraft from the First and Second World Wars, which are all in meticulous flying condition. Even more aircraft will be on display from other museums and personal collections from around the country. The sky will be crowded with colorful airplanes as rarely seen before.

Join us in Virginia Beach on the last warm days of summer, when the hotel rates have come down, but the excitement has gone up. Imagine the spectacle of these colorful airplanes dancing through the bright blue sky, with infantry encampments underneath. Join hundreds of re-enactors and musical entertainment from the early days of vaudeville and the birth of the moving picture industry. This was an era now romanticized by authors and Hollywood, but experience it yourself at the Virginia Beach Airport, when you go back in time for a hundred years and see these First World War airplanes flying once again.
