Filter papers

Biopacifica can do all serology tests from dried blood samples collected and transported on filter papers, specifically designed for serological examination. They can be stored in an envelope or zip-lock bag in the refrigerator or freezer before shipment. One drop of blood covering the filter paper sampling protuberance is sufficient for all testing.

Biopacifica makes it easier for our clients to collect samples, store and ship them to New Zealand.

FTA™ Cards

For collection, shipping and purification of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) from infectious agents for PCR-based analysis, animal tissues can be imprinted on FTA™ Cards, which will be safely shipped to Biopacifica in New Zealand inside an envelope.

Courier Service

Our clients will be given Biopacifica’s client number for our own courier of choice, to send their samples to New Zealand with charge to the receiver. One phone call and they will pick up the samples at your own office. No delays with cheap postage.

Interpretation of results

Our reports are comprehensive and thorough, including raw data and histogrammes whenever relevant or requested. The Biopacifica team will be happy to discuss each individual result, assisting on interpretation and pointing out the most important features and trends on the health status of your livestock or flocks.

Once the laboratory releases the reports, they can be immediately viewed by the client through an online application with client number and a password.

At Biopacifica we consider the overall health of your flock or herd, and not just at individuals. Sampling methods and quantities do affect the final results, therefore we focus on representative sampling from a statistical point of view. Our best time, materials and efforts are dedicated to tests which will provide the clients with a meaningful result.

Since minute amounts of blood are required for the ELISA, a drop of blood collected on filter paper can be used to simplify blood sampling procedures and reduce costs. Conditions for preserving and recovering antibodies absorbed on filter paper have already been described and filter paper blood elutes have been-used in serological surveys or the diagnosis of several infections, with excellent equivalence to traditional essay performed on serum.

ACCURATE.To ensure that information provided to our customers has the appropriate level of reliability, Biopacifica participates yearly in international programmes of test proficiency, where our performance is monitored by comparison of inter-laboratory results using the same test. In this manner, Biopacifica’s quality control guarantees results with high precision and accuracy, i.e., measurements close to the true value with reproducibility.

PCR (Molecular investigation for infectious agents)

Molecular methods like the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) are a substantial part of veterinary diagnostics these days, especially in poultry production. Real Time PCR for example offers today the possibility, only within a few hours, to detect relevant viruses in acute disease outbreaks being an important element in the fight against fatal animal diseases. PCR offers the most actual information on the presence of infectious agents and epidemiology.

ELISA (Serology)

Biopacifica uses Enzyme-linked immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) tests, which are sensitive to detect minimum variations in antibody levels and quantify them, and being specific enough to distinguish between pathogens that could cause different diseases of similar symptoms.
