The musical universe is infinite and the galaxy of best-loved composers alone
contains thousands of musical suns. Stylistically, though, these are often
Musical light-years apart. The Janoska Ensemble has set out to span intergalactic
Distance with its unique synthesis of musical worlds and its venture has won it an
enthusiastic international public in a remarkably short time.
The four young progenitors of this art – each with a superb classical training –
have combined their individual musical attainments to perfection: Ondrej,
František and Roman Janoska (three brothers from Bratislava) and their
brother-in-law Julius Darvas (born and bred in Konstanz) are already successful
in repeated engagements on four continents.
The Janoska Ensemble has achieved the feat, in the competitive jungle of today’s music scene, of forging their specific style into their own brand and thus into a genre concept,
namely their Janoska Style, transposing familiar references from classic to pop into an audibly related and yet quite new message. Nor is this all: each of their precision-tuned
arrangements invariably carries the hallmark of the ensemble’s abounding musical invention, the Janoska fingerprints. This fingerprinting – with an amazing range of expression
from moving to thrilling – naturally shows up in the ensemble members’ own compositions.
The Janoska Style possesses the rare ability to enthuse dedicated followers of totally opposing genres. Its vast reserves of positive energy electrify an audience after just a few
bars; by the time they have embarked on their spontaneous virtuoso improvisations, the four great artists have stirred even the most reticent listeners from their seats.
The Janoska Ensemble’s debut album “Janoska Style” was released on the prestigious classical music label Deutsche Grammophon in 2016 and attained gold status within a year.
Ondrej Janoska, an alumnus of Professor Boris Kuschnir’s
renowned violin class, displayed his skills as a soloist from
a young age with various orchestras and played first violin in
the Vienna State Opera Orchestra/Vienna Philharmonic.
His younger brother Roman Janoska, who also received classically
training from teachers such as Pavel Vernikov, made a name for himself
as a jazz violinist in ensembles which include the Vienna Art Orchestra.
František Janoska is both a pianist and sought-after arranger
and composer in stylistically diverse contexts. Among others he
is a long-standing member of the Roby Lakatos Ensemble and
Musical Director of Erwin Schrott’s Rojotango Tour, and annually
takes part in the Project Hollywood in Vienna as a solo pianist.
Double bassist Julius Darvas was born into a musically
eminent Hungarian family and has been a member of the
Stage Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera since 2001. He
is a regular substitute for the Vienna Philharmonic and has
made a name for himself as a jazz bassist..

FROM VIENNA TO LIVERPOOL
A Tribute To The Beatles
What could link Liverpool with Vienna? Music. Back in the 1960s, four lively lads from Liverpool in north-west England embarked on a career unprecedented in music history.
The Beatles – as John, Paul, George and Ringo were known – created a new and unmistakable style of “beat music” and wrote a stream of imaginative, high-end, popular
numbers. They succeeded – without the aid of today’s channels of music distribution – in thrilling hundreds of millions of music-lovers with their constant hits. Their fascinating
melodic wealth has been endlessly referenced and re-interpreted.
Today it is the four handsome young musicians of the Vienna-based Janoska Ensemble who have launched a world-spanning career
with the new, unmistakably universal language of their Janoska Style, and now they are adding the Beatles to their multifaceted repertoire.
It is the hallmark of the Janoska Ensemble that they forge surprising links between otherwise unrelated musical genres, new creations
that satisfy the ear and the soul. Following its gold-status debut CD “Janoska Style”, the ensemble is now preparing the programme for
its second album on Deutsche Grammophon, under the title “From Vienna to Liverpool. A Tribute to The Beatles”.
There will be adaptations of classical pieces by Kreisler, Beethoven,
Liszt, Wieniawski, and Bach. The work of the Beatles, particularly
Lennon-McCartney, will be referenced in “immortal” numbers like
Yesterday, Let It Be, Hey Jude and Penny Lane, enriched with hitherto
unknown colours in the equally unparalleled Janoska Style and sometimes
merged with the ensemble’s own compositions and works by the
composers named above.
The Janoska Ensemble’s international fan club can look forward to a
Programme full of dazzling musical invention, in which the passion
and delight of four seasoned musicians again bursts all barriers of
musical time and space in surging virtuosity.
