Introduction This manual covers the servicing of the BioDoc-It 210 and 220 Imaging Systems.

For instructions on using the system, refer to the Instruction Manual for the BioDoc-It Imaging Systems.

Cleaning and Care

Camera/Lens It is recommended not to clean the camera. Contact UVP Technical Support with any questions regarding the camera.

Darkroom

Do not use any oil-based, petroleum-based or abrasive cleaners to clean the darkroom. Use only mild soap or detergent for cleaning. Ensure that the system is turned OFF prior to cleaning the darkroom.

Transilluminator

The painted surfaces and filter areas of the transilluminator should be cleaned with water, soap, and a sponge or cloth towel. Never use abrasive cleaners, solvent-based cleaners or scouring pads. Always disconnect the transilluminator from the electrical power prior to cleaning. To protect the filter glass and minimize moisture and liquids on the glass, it is recommended to use a UV-transmitting Gel-Tray. Refer to the Replacement Parts for ordering information.

Replacing Tubes

Transilluminator NOTE! This applies only to Benchtop Transilluminators. Do not attempt to replace the grid lamp in the FirstLight UV Transilluminator as this voids the warranty. Contact UVP or an authorized distributor to replace the grid.

1. Disconnect the transilluminator from the electrical supply.

2. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the filter cover by removing the four screws on the sides of the unit. Lift the filter cover off of the unit.

3. Remove the reflectors on the left and right sides of the unit by sliding the reflectors up and out of the unit.

4. Remove the tube by carefully rotating and sliding it out of the socket. Replace with a new tube by sliding the tube into the socket and rotating it into place.

5. Insert the reflectors back into place and reattach the filter cover.

Replacing Fuses Fuses are located on the back of the transilluminator and darkroom. Each unit takes two fuses. Replace both fuses at the same time. Refer to “Replacement Parts” for ordering information.

1. Unplug the darkroom and/or transilluminator from the power source prior to removing the fuses.

2. Turn the fuseholder counterclockwise, using a flat-head screwdriver to remove the fuseholder and fuse.

3. Replace with a new fuse, reinsert the fuseholder into the system, and turn clockwise to secure the fuseholder.

Replacing Switches

UVP’s darkrooms and transilluminators use the same power switch. Follow these steps to replace the power switch in the darkroom or transilluminator. Refer to replacement parts for ordering information.

1. Unplug the darkroom and transilluminator from the power source prior to removing the power switch.

2. To remove the power switch from the unit, use a thin flat-head screwdriver to pry the switch out from the housing. Be careful not to scratch the paint of the darkroom or transilluminator in the process.

3. Once the switch is removed, you will see a number of connector wires plugged into the back of it. Normally there are two black and two white wires, with some exceptions. Pull one wire out of the old switch and insert into the same connector location on the new switch. Continue this process for each wire until all wires are connected to the new switch.

4. Push the new switch into position.

Troubleshooting

No Power to Darkroom Cabinet

1. Recheck main power cord connections to the darkroom.

2. Check the fuses, located at the back of the unit near the power port. A flat-head screwdriver will be needed. Turn the cap and the fuse holder will pop out. Inspect the thin wire within the glass fuse to see if there is a break in the wire. If so, replace the fuse(s). If the fuses are blowing repeatedly, contact the UVP Technical Support Department for additional troubleshooting.

Transilluminator Will Not Turn On

1. Be sure the darkroom cabinet’s door is completely closed. There is a UV exposure safety cut-off switch that turns the transilluminator off when the darkroom cabinet door is opened.

2. Be sure the darkroom cabinet’s main power switch is lit. If not, refer to “No Power to Darkroom Cabinet” above.

3. Be sure the transilluminator switch is on. When the switch on the transilluminator is lit green, the unit is receiving power.

4. Be sure the transilluminator’s power jumper cord is securely connected at both the ends of the cable.

5. Call UVP’s Technical Support Department with any technical questions. Refer to the “Contacting Technical Support” section for contact information.

No Image on the LCD Screen To power up the system, push once on the button located on the left side of the unit. If there is still no image on the screen, contact the UVP Technical Support Department for additional troubleshooting.

Touch Screen Not Accurate

If touching or clicking on the buttons becomes inaccurate, the touch screen may need to be recalibrated. Please follow the touch screen calibration instructions included in the TS software CD.

Error Messages Pop Up on the Screen

1. Messages appear on the screen that might be related to the TS software interface or Microsoft Windows. If the message is related to Microsoft Windows, such as a reminder to activate or update your copy of Windows, please contact your system administrator for assistance.

2. If an error message appears repetitively and your system administrator does not recognize it as a Microsoft Windows error, contact UVP Technical Support for further assistance.
