WHAT IS BIO-DIESEL?WHAT IS BIO-DIESEL?
It is the variety of ester based oxygenated fuels made from renewable oilseeds such as jetropha, karanja, soybeans, canola & jojoba.
It is a fatty acid or methyl ester.

ADVANTAGES OF BIO-DIESELADVANTAGES OF BIO-DIESEL
It can be used alone or mixed with in any ratio with petroleum diesel fuel. The most common blend is ‘B20’.
Bio-diesel reduces the health risks associated with petroleum diesel fuel by releasing amount of PAH & nPAH compounds.
The use of Bio-diesel can extend the life of diesel engine because it has more lubricating characteristics then petroleum diesel fuel.
Bio-diesel is safe to handle because it is as biodegradable as sugar.
3
ADVANTAGES OF BIO-DIESELADVANTAGES OF BIO-DIESEL
It has a flash point of 125°C as compared to petro-diesel fuel which has flash point of 55 ° C. Testing has shown that flash point of bio-diesel will increases as the percentage of bio-diesel is increases.

ENVIRONMENTAL & SAFETY ENVIRONMENTAL & SAFETY INFORMATIONINFORMATION
1. Acute oral toxicity: bio-diesel is non-toxic. By, comparison table salt (NaCL) is 10 times more toxic then bio-diesel.
2. Skin irritation to humans : Undiluted bio-diesel produced very mild irritation.
3. Biodegradability : bio-diesel degrades up to four times faster then petroleum diesel fuel. Within 28 days bio-diesel degrades up to 85 to 88% in water. Blending bio-diesel with petroleum diesel fuel accelerates its biodegradability.
6
PERFORMANCEPERFORMANCE
1. Power : Bio-diesel offers power, fuel consumption, horsepower, torque, operation performance and haulage rates as conventional diesel fuel.
2. Lubricity : Bio-diesel provides significant lubricity improvement over petroleum diesel fuel. Even bio-diesel levels below 1% can improve up to a 30% increase in lubricity.
3. Compatibility with engine components : using high percent natural or butyl rubbers compound that can interrupt the working of engine components. If user wish to fuel with replacement compatible elastomers is recommended.
7
PERFORMANCEPERFORMANCE
4. Bio-diesel in cold weather : A 20% blend of bio-diesel with petro-diesel raises the freezing properties approximately 3 °F to 5° F . Neat bio-diesel will being to freeze at about 25 °F .

PRODUCTIONPRODUCTION
The production of bio-diesel or alkyl esters is well known. There are three basic routes to ester production from oils and fats:
Base catalyzed transesterification of the oil with alcohol( like methanol).
Direct acid catalyzed esterification of the oil with methanol.
Conversion of the oil to fatty acids, then to alkyl esters with acid catalysis.

This will reduce import burden to save substantial foreign exchange enabling our country to strengthen infrastructure facilities with increased GDP and reduced dependency on OPEC countries for self reliance in petroleum requirement.

PURE BIO-DIESEL
BIO-DIESEL IMPACTBIO-DIESEL IMPACT
The investment in the sector would give to boost to supporting and ancillary rural based industries.
It would generate employment of about 6-8 million unemployment people including tribal & women farmers.
This will improve the ecological balance by covering wasteland and reduce the hazardous emissions.
