Story at The Un|vers|ty of Utah

Attending college isn’t just about getting a degree. It’s about creating your

own story, making memories that will remain crystal clear 40 years from now.

It’s about taking classes from professors such as Nobel Prize-winning Mario

Capecchi, screaming yourself hoarse in Rice-Eccles Stadium on an autumn

afternoon, hearing a world leader speak at the Hinckley Institute of Politics,

pulling all-nighters studying with your roommates in Heritage Commons.

These are the experiences that await you at the University of Utah, the flag-

ship university in this state and one of the finest institutions in the West.

With a 1,534-acre campus, over 28,000 students, 76 different under-

HigH ScHool: It’s important to take rigorous courses

throughout your high school years, inclusive

of AP and concurrent enrollment courses.

The University of Utah requires that you take

the following college prep courses in order to be admitted:

English..........................4 years, emphasizing composition and literature

Mathematics ................2 years beyond elementary algebra (selected from

geometry, intermediate algebra, trigonometry, college or advanced algebra, or calculus)

Biological and/or Physical Science ..........3 years, two of which are required to be taken from

the following: chemistry, physics and biology or human biology (one of

the sciences must include a laboratory experience)

History ..........................1 year American history and government (Processes and

structure of democratic governance)

Foreign language ......... First and second year (level) of the same foreign language

taken during grades 7 through 12

Additional units............4 years from at least two of the following: history, English,

mathematics beyond intermediate algebra, laboratory science, foreign language,

social science, fine arts, technology and engineering education

How toPrepare For the

Preparation for any university begins early, from learning to read and write

to learning how to think critically. Here are suggestions as to what classes

and activities you should be involved in beginning in middle school.

•Start learning about different financial aid programs from

your counselors and teachers. talk to your counselor about:

•Collegepreparatoryclasses,AP,andotherhonorslevelclassestotakein

high school. •Participationinextracurricularactivities(sports,clubs,service).

•Theimportancecollegesplaceonyourgradesandhowthatwillaffectthe

Cost and F|nanc|al

A|D at theA good dealA college education is a worthwhile investment. the costs that you will see at

the university of utah include tuition and fees, books and supplies, and room

and meals (if you plan to live on campus). there are many resources available

to help pay for a college education. Below are some steps you can take that

may help.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

The financial aid process shouldn’t have to be a daunting one. Follow the

financial aid checklist listed under the link below and you could be eligible

for grants, loans, and work-study. Also, remember that we offer three differ-

ent types of scholarships merit, leadership, and diversity but you must submit

the application on time or you will not be considered. Deadline for scholar-
