HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the num-bers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, columnand box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues alreadyprovided in the boxes. Growing HappinessWith Hydrangeas
(NAPSA)-Bringing beauty to your home andgarden can be simple when you growhydrangeas. Their big, bushy flowers come in avariety of shades of blue, purple, rose, violet andgreen. They’re easy to grow, have a long seasonof bloom-generally late spring to early fall-andare great for mass landscape, border plantings orcontainer plants. The large, eye-catchinghydrangea blossoms from Forever &_Ever(r)Plants can also be enjoyed as cut or dried flowers.
Hydrangea Facts And TipsTo help you create a gorgeous hydrangea
garden, here are some hints from the experts atthe United States Department of Agriculture:
• Don’t be concerned if your pinkhydrangea develops blue flowers. As hydrangeaflowers age on the plant, they often change col-ors.
• Hydrangeas grow best in moist, well-drained soil.
• Most hydrangeas benefit from someshade, though deep shade can greatly reduceflowering.
• Established hydrangea plants may bene-fit from regular pruning. Removing about a thirdof the oldest stems each year will result in afuller, healthier plant.
• Gardeners may also want to prune tocontrol height or to re_move old flower heads.
• One of the easiest ways to preserve theflowers is to let them dry almost completely onthe plant. Don’t collect them until the flowershave developed a papery feel. On a dry day withlow humidity, cut the stems the length you needfor your floral arrangements. Strip off all leavesand then find a dry place indoors where the flow-ers can finish drying. Flowers can be hung upsidedown while being dried or placed in a vase withor without water.

Rubies come in many shades of red.Vietnamese rubies tend to be more of abright sparkling red. The Sri Lankanrubies are slightly lighter in tone thanfine Burmese rubies. African rubies tendto be more orange-red, and Thai rubiescan be dark red to brownish red or pur-plish red.

(PX) — Just as diamond hasbecome the gem of romance, ruby hasbeen the gem of passion and theheart’s desire since the dawn of time.Because of its lovely red color, rubyhas been associated with the heart, theblood and the centers of passionthroughout its history.
In ancient India, ruby was highlyvalued for three distinct purposes.Mystics used rubies to stimulate spiri-tual creativity and religious devotion.Healers believed that rubies could healdiseases of the pelvic cavity and gen-

(NAPS)-Several gardening trends areexpected to flourish this summer.
Experts predict that small- space gar-dening, container vertical gardening andgardens with low-maintenance flowerswill thrive. One low-maintenance but All-American award-winning star suited toany size garden is the lovely daylily.
There are so many to choose from.More than 60,000 daylilies are registeredand bred in at least 25 states by hundredsof individual hybridizers. Many of thebest daylilies compete for the title of All-American Daylily awarded by the All-American Daylily Selection Council(AADSC).
AADSC began its test program in1985 and awarded its first All-Americantitle in 1994 to Black Eyed Stella, knownfor its landscape performance as a nearlycontinuous bloomer.
The title is not just an award grantedto the prettiest cultivar, but rather givenonly to those daylily varieties that havedemonstrated superior performance indozens of criteria across at least fiveUSDA hardiness zones.
Daylilies are tested for at least twoyears with finalists grown for anotherthree to five years in open field condi-tions before being selected as a winner.
There are now 19 award-winningAll-American Daylily varieties that
The All-American Award-Winning Daylily: Lovely And Low Maintenancehave been selected for their scientificallyproven, superior performance nationwide. Here are just a few of the winners:
• This year, a new daylily has earnedthe distinction of being named an All-American Daylily. The recent winner, LadyElizabeth (Hemerocallis Lady Elizabeth),features sparkling diamond-dusted whiteblooms.
For decades, near-white to whitedaylilies have been considered weak novel-ties best grown by collectors, but this newflower has defied these stereotypes bydelivering dependable performance and ahearty display of blooms throughout thegrowing season.
A winner in exhibition category, rust-resistant Lady Elizabeth blooms 30 to 110days per year in USDA_zones 4 through 10and adds a stunning highlight to any land-scape. The flower’s sun-resistant 5- to 51⁄2-inchdiameter blooms appear in early to mid-sea-son on 18- to 24-inch scapes and continueblooming for five to six weeks, repeatingagain late in the season. Dense, bright green foliage provides a
graceful pedestal below the flower dis-play.
• In 2009, Dream Souffle was thefirst double bloom to win the award. Thefluffy double-petaled blooms are a pas-tel rosy-pink blended with cream andflushed with yellow in the center.
• In 2006, the award winner wasButtered Popcorn, a large buttery-goldbloom on sturdy 28- to 33-inch scapes. The golden beauty boasts nearly contin-uous blooming.
• In 2004, Lady Lucille was hon-ored for its large showy bloom that startsoff just as most other daylilies are wind-ing down, with clusters of flashy 5- to 6-inch blooms that go from summer to fall.
• In 2002, Bitsy, one of the longest-blooming varieties, won for its petitepersonality and powerful performance.
• In 1998, Lullaby Baby andStarstruck were honored for their exqui-site beauty and balance in the exhibitioncategory.

cial care. Some rubies have fissuresor surface breaks that are filled witha glass-like byproduct of the heatingprocess. These stones do require spe-cial care in cleaning and wearing, butthey generally are more affordable.”
For those with a passion for redgems, there are several affordablealternatives to rubies. Garnets offer awide range of red colors with plentyof fire. Red tourmaline, sometimescalled rubellite, provides light-to-dark purplish reds. And red spinelsometimes is used as a ruby substi-tute because of its pure medium-to-deep red colors. Any of these, alongwith ruby, can satisfy the passion forlovely red gemstones.
Not your average daylily, the LadyElizabeth features sparkling diamond-dusted blooms and defies the “weaknovelty” stereotype of most nearwhites, delivering dependable perform-ance and a hearty display of blooms.
