Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great winter break and a
safe and happy holiday season! As the year came to a close, we had a number of fun events throughout December, and even into January.
2015 was a very successful year for our club, as we reached new milestones and gained more new members. 2016 holds even more in store, and you won’t want to miss all the exciting events coming up within the next few months, including the New York District Convention! Read all about our club’s highlights throughout the winter and more in this edition of The Binghamton CKInsider!

It was a Saturday afternoon on December 5th when I went to the divisional at the University Union. The Southern Tier division met with the Iroquois division along with their respective LTGs to discuss about what the clubs have done and events occurring on the district level. Being a part of Key Club for 4 years, I knew what divisional were like, but I was still excited as this was my first divisional in Circle K. Binghamton came up strong by having the most members, (but to be fair we were the only representatives for Southern Tier that were even there.) I was able to meet our LTG, Tina Lee, for the first time and met the LTG for Iroquois Edward Kroll. Walaa was able to stop by and encouraged us to do some icebreakers, so we started off
2
with playing the “Goin’ on a Picnic” icebreaker and then musical chairs, with John winning (*cough* *cough* he cheated *cough*). Near the end, we ended up making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as a service project. With food to keep us happy, videos promoting DCON, discussing the thirst project and Jerry doing the lemon challenge, it was a nice, casual atmosphere. It definitely was fun to spend a bit of my day not only hanging with friends but to also meet new people and I definitely hope to see other clubs from other divisions soon.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing By Amanda Rizzi
1
My name is Amanda Rizzi and I am a junior. I have been involved in Circle k for a long time, but my favorite event to date has been the bell ringing for the Salvation Army. Even though it was December, the weather was still nice, so standing outside wasn't that bad. On top of that, I got to hang out with my best friend Amy Lucia, the club’s vice president, which was also super fun.
The event also gave us an opportunity to meet a lot of really cool and generous people. I dressed up like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. Someone even booped my reindeer nose!

Ringing the bell for the Salvation Army was a great way to get into the holiday spirit this season, spend time with a pretty lady, and raise money for a good cause. It's not like I was going to study for finals anyways! I highly recommend this event to everyone!

Event Spotlight End of Semester Social
by Jess Siegal
1
In the last meeting of the Fall 2015 semester, Circle K held its end-of-semester social, bringing a great semester of service and fellowship to an end. The social was held on Thursday, December 10th at 7pm. Sporting their best ugly sweaters, Circle K-ers took a break from studying and gathered in the Union to enjoy food, games, and a service project. As every college student knows, nothing beats free food, especially pizza. District Governor Walaa Ahmed (and her cupcakes) also paid a visit. One of the highlights of the social was a holiday movie-themed game of Pictionary. As is tradition, club
2
superlatives were awarded including Best Tim, Best Ugly Sweater, and Freshest Freshman. Shout-out to Kester Francis for winning the “Freshest Freshman” award. The social concluded with a small service project geared towards children. Members made bunnies out of socks and rubber bands, and then decorated them to make them even cuter. The social was a fun way to end the semester and get excited for the holidays.

January Board By John Tirino
1
As Conferences and Conventions Committee Chair for the New York District of Circle K, I am in charge of planning the three district events throughout the year (DLSSP, New York Speaking, and District Convention). DLSSP and New York Speaking have already passed, and were great successes.
Our next and final event is District
Convention, which will be held in Albany, NY from March 11th-13th. This is the finale to our service year, where we celebrate all we have done and accomplished as a district. It is also extremely important, as it is the time that elections for the new district board are held.
Planning for the event has begun, and
during this winter break the district board, aka the “Royal Board”, met in New York City to discuss the progress of the district as well as plan for District Convention. Besides the
2
meeting, the weekend of “January Board” was full of fun fellowship activities as well as recording for our next DCON promotional video. For those who do not know yet, the theme for this year’s DCON is “NYCKI on Broadway”, so we were able to actually record on Broadway in Manhattan.
I am looking forward to this year’s
District Convention, and I hope to see many of you there representing Binghamton Circle K!

Spring General Interest Meeting By Jada McMahon
1
Returning to Bing for the semester, one of the things I was most excited about was participating more in Circle K and the service events the organization offers. At the Spring semester GIM, the E-board brought back memories of all the great events the members did such as the Chenango State Park cleanup and the New York Speaks convention.
I personally remember all the fun I had
participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in October. For new and old members from the previous semesters, they also introduced many great opportunities to get involved. These included the BC Library Leap Day Party, DCON, and the weekly rescue mission community meals where members help provide meals to the less fortunate of the Binghamton area.
2
I’m so excited for all of these, and most excited for the bake sales! Before this GIM, I did not know that Circle K hosts 2-3 service opportunities for its members each week, so this is definitely something I am looking forward to taking advantage of.
This semester is looking like a great
one to be a part of Circle K!

The first question which the priest and
the Levite asked was: “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?” But… the good Samaritan reversed the question: “If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”
