The modern Manchester is a rapidly evolving

city crammed with nightlife that defies all

weather. With 40 sites showcasing live music,

it offers an endless whirl of overlapping

sounds - from electronic and avante indie to

lad rock, folk and much more. This non-stop

music melange makes Manchester a perfect

learning base for young musicians, and being

a friendly and energetic city it offers them

lots of like-minded people to hang out with!

Everyone plays Manchester. The Arena boasts

world-famous bands while the neighbouring

northern quarter’s hipster bars and clubs

offer a range of upcoming talent.

The famous 1976 Sex Pistols gigs put on

by the Buzzcocks in Manchester sparked

an intense local scene at a time when the

crucial DIY culture of punk began. These

concerts made Manchester the first city

outside London to have its own genuine punk

scene with the Buzzcocks becoming a key

part of the movement – inspiring a massive

local boost that made Manchester the key

city for post punk thanks to Joy Division

and news reporter Tony Wilson’s Factory

Records totally reinventing music for a new

generation.

By 1980 Manchester was the hippest music

city in the UK. The world’s home of the

industrial revolution continued to innovate

and still does to this day. Home to the

computer, invented in Manchester just after

WWll, it can also boast creating some of the

UK’s favourite TV programmes. And it is out

of this tradition of innovation that new music

resulted – such as the lyrical smarts of the

Smiths, New Order reinventing the wheel by

crossing electro music with post punk and

the Fall’s idiosyncratic releases.

By the end of the 1980s it all exploded as

Madchester…. with the Stone Roses and

the Happy Mondays. A working class San

Francisco, Manchester became the hippest

place in the world! And it just keeps on

coming, from Oasis outselling the Beatles

to award-winning bands like Elbow and the

complex, highly evolved local scene that

exists today.

Vibrant, thrilling, multi-cultural Manchester

has again reinvented itself… and has the best

soundtrack! With Manchester Nights now a

club standard, what other city in the world

can boast events named after itself? Come

and be a part of it at BIMM Manchester!
