ABOUT BIMCO TRAINING DAYSWhoBIMCO Training Days (BTD) is primarily aimed at managers with operational, chartering or commercial responsibilities.

Goals• Expand and boost your knowledge on the big picture of the maritime business

• Gain an insight into the numerous drivers of change affecting the maritime industry

• Meet the challenge of constant change with confidence and use it to your benefit to deliver results

• Network and learn with a likeminded group of accomplished shipping professionals

HowBIMCO Training Days will consist of three interlinked days with three blocks of 90 minutes teaching sessions each day. Expert tutors, drawn for the commercial side of the shipping industry, will deliver each block. In addition, there will be participant sessions consisting of case studies with model answers. This is combined with cluster sessions, where individual participants will be tasked with leading a discussion, based on a theme, topic or article of contemporary interest to the participants.

The first major update of the NYPE time charter party in over twenty years will be the focus of a series of worldwide seminars during 2016. The seminars will be presented by members of the team that drafted NYPE 2015.

Participants will gain an insight into the changes to key provisions such as:• hire payments• bunkers• performance of voyagesas well as a general overview of many of the newly introduced contemporary clauses.

This NYPE seminar is jointly organized by BIMCO and Singapore Maritime Foundation.

The seminar will begin at 13:00, followed by a drinks reception and networking opportunity starting at 15:30.

Mr Philip YangPhilip Yang has been a full-time arbitrator for well over 20 years, mainly in international trade, shipping and commercial disputes. He has published/issued over 500 arbitration awards as a sole or co-arbitrator. He is also a professor teaching arbitration law and practice in the City University of Hong Kong and the Programme Leader of the LLM in Arbitration. Yang is deputy chairman of the Documentary Committee, Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), Denmark, the Honorary Chairman and Council Member of The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), the Past President of the Asia-Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG). Besides, he has published many books and a lot of articles on international trade, shipping and arbitration related topics/matters.

Mr Henrik Zederkof Henrik Zederkof started as Bunker Trader with Dan-Bunkering in 1990. He was promoted to Team Leader and joined the credit team in 1998. In 2006, he became Sales Manager in the Middelfart Office including the overall responsibility for the office in Kaliningrad, Russia. In 2009, he became CEO of the Dan-Bunkering group, which today has 13 offices around the world. He completed the INSEAD Executive Management Program in 2011-2012.

Mr Jonathan YoungJonathan Young has 40 years of experience in the commodity trading and shipping sector, including 15 years as a commodity trader with major global businesses, 10 years managing commodity shippers’ back offices including chartering and commodity financing arrangements as well as 15 years in global vessel operations. He started his career in London in 1975, after obtaining an MBA in Finance and International Business. Young joined Cargill Ocean Transportation’s Vessel Operations Management in 2001, one of the largest Dry-Bulk Charterers and Operators in the world, and was manager of the Ocean Transportation Claims department from 2007, handling Global Charter-Party disputes and their resolution.Young has served on BIMCO documentary working groups on various subjects and clauses since 2008, and has been member of the committee responsible for drafting the revised New York Produce Exchange Time Charter-Party – NYPE 2015 (published October 2015). Mr. Young has been involved in GAFTA and LMAA arbitrations for many years as well as alternative dispute resolution including Mediation, mainly involving Bulk Carriers. Young has a broad and detailed knowledge of both time and voyage Charter parties, their respective terms and disputes arising therefrom. Having worked with shipping documents throughout his career, including countless different Bills of Lading, he is also an expert in the field.

Mr Henry C. Mytton-MillsHenry Mytton-Mills is the founder and CEO of Aries Maritime Holdings Group of Companies. He is the Managing Director of Aries Shipbroking and Chairman of the SPI Marine Group headquartered in Singapore with offices in China, Korea, USA and Oman. Henry is also a Director of Precious Shipping (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Henry started his career as a Cadet with the China Navigation Company 35 years ago. Prior to Aries, he held executive positions with major London and international shipbroking companies which included Eggar Forrester, WESCOL, Lambert Brothers, Cleaves & Inchcape. He has extensive specialist experience in all aspects of Ship Sale & Purchase as well as wide-ranging experience in Chartering and Shipowning. He was elected to the Baltic Exchange in 1978, is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights and a Freeman of the City of London as well as a member of the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration.

Mr John FreydagFollowing his apprenticeship with Aug. Bolten in Hamburg and some further training and work experience in London and Hamburg, John Freydag joined Bernhard Schulte, Hamburg in 1991 as Chartering Assistant. He became Chartering & Operations Director in 1999 and Managing Director responsible for Container & Bulk Chartering in 2012. Since 2013 he is also Managing Director of Hanseatic Unity Chartering, the joint marketing platform of Borealis Maritime, Reederei NORD GMBH and Bernhard Schulte with offices in Hamburg and Singapore.John Freydag is Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. He represents Bernhard Schulte in the Tramp Committee of the German Shipowners’ Association and the German BIMCO Members in the Documentary Committee. He was part of the BIMCO Subcommittee for the NYPE 2015.

These days, he has been much involved in charter party and ship sale.

Mr Søren LarsenFollowing his graduation from Copenhagen University and the Institute of Maritime Law, Søren Larsen joined BIMCO in August 1985.

He was appointed Head of Department for Documentary and Legal Affairs in 1993 and became Deputy Secretary General, with primary responsibility for BIMCO’s documentary affairs, in 1999. Apart from other duties, Søren Larsen is presently overviewing BIMCO’s documentary and educational activity.

He represents BIMCO’s and shipowners’ interests in various international fora, such as the IMO, UNCITRAL, ICC and CMI and works closely with the Secretary General in the management of the BIMCO Secretariat.

Mr Francis SarreFrancis Sarre was educated at the King’s School Canterbury (secondary school) before moving to university in Ghent in Belgium where he studied law and followed a post graduate course in European Community law. His professional experience started in 1986 as a Research Assistant at Ghent University in the European and Private International Law departments before joining Bocimar (the dry bulk shipping division of CMB) in Antwerp in 1989. After the merger with the Almabo Group he joined CMB in 1992 and headed up the legal department in 2006 also becoming member of the Executive Committee. Francis Sarre is currently General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of CMB, Chairman of Bimco’s Documentary Committee and Vice Chairman of the West of England P and I Club (taking the Chair as from February 2016). He also chairs the Belgian Shipowners’ Association Legal Committee.

Wayne ZhuangWei Zhuang is the China Liaison Officer at BIMCO as well as the General Manager of BIMCO Shanghai Centre. Wei started his BIMCO career with the legal & contractual affairs department where he joined a wide range of BIMCO’s standard contracts and clauses projects, including project development, revision and promotion. His current role is focusing on BIMCO Shanghai Centre, where he is committed to keeping a constructive relationship with regional regulators and industry stakeholders and, most importantly, to provide BIMCO services to BIMCO members and potential members in the greater China region. Wei’s previous positions include eight years as a maritime lawyer and Senior Fellow at University. He has a master’s degree in maritime law and a PhD in international law.

Ayako OdashimaAyako, Education Officer for BIMCO’s Education Department, is responsible for the administration and marketing of BIMCO’s training courses and eLearning programs. Prior to joining BIMCO, Ayako has worked for a number of international organizations, and has been responsible for emergency logistics and coordinated training programs on humanitarian logistics and supply chain management in Asia, Africa, Europe and in the Middle East.
